IGN has posted up four new gameplay clips from NCAA Football 09. These offer easily the best representation of the game so far, although I didn’t really see any “wow” moments in these like were witnessed first hand. Don’t forget both parts of my hands-on with NCAA 09 will be coming tonight at midnight eastern. Make sure to check out the videos in high-res by clicking here.

Micheal did you not see wen florida state scored a touchdown?... Thats y i said that...

this looks like a minor upgrade from NCAA 08. Did i see an achievement for 200? looks like EA is going back to the much-loved strategy of 5 achievements for 1000 points

I agree. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Go play NCAA Gamebreaker on your Sega Saturn....

I noticed in the pic with the Texas defender that it appears that the numbers on the back of the Horns' helmets look to be a larger font as they are in reality.

I hope that is the case. Not a Texas fan but they have some of the best uniforms in college football. The all white helmets are sweet.
The game looks fine... not great... but definatly better than last years game, which was pathetic... But anyways EA needs to change a few things....
1.Sidelines need to be changed BIG TIME... Im sick of looking at people that just stand there and have no emotions at all.
2.The crowd needs to be changed... There isnt any excitement at all... (C'MON EA THIS IS COLLEGE FOOTBALL WERE TALKING ABOUT THERES A THING CALLED EXCITEMENT!!)
3.The game layout is exactly the same as last year and it reminds me of 08.

Overall i think the game will be good (for sure better than the ps3 version of 08... I play ncaa 08 on ps2 cuz i hate the ps3 version) I just think they could do better.
Yea u cant even tell about the crowd intill you play the game and thats what they improved

sometimes i feel as though people just come here to wine about a game... i thought it look great

The game doesnt look a tad bit different from last yr going by those vids. Same canned animations, same boring presentation, same tired play by play. Eh, cant say im surprised, i expected this so i get to skip out on the dissapointment.
• sean
they need to bring back the broadcast style of presentation that they had a few years ago.
• Kretch
The game looks a lot more fluid and more fun to play. I'm just hoping that the shots shown were from playing on freshman or junior varsity or whatever the easiest level is. And keep in mind this is still an early build so a lot can happen between now and July.

The crowd isn't that great. First of all, some fans still face the wrong direction. Secondly, as was pointed out earlier, the FSU fans became quiet after the TD. Pasta, perhaps you could shed some light onto this to see if these have been fixed in the version you played.

Thanks,

NCAA is where its at, this game will be elite.

Cal has some new unis and they look sweet

Pasta, on another note...
any idea what is going on with the alt. jersey screens?
i mean... none monday or tuesday, then they say they have two posted yesterday but we still can't see the pictures.... and now none today

i mean, we saw a couple in those videos but EA didn't release those so it's not like they're showing those instead...

looking forward to your piece(s) tonight as well
It's a flaw in EA's football engine, and not one that is going to be corrected in the last minutes before release.
Which brings up the point that EA really needs to revisit the engine. It just doesn't feel as real as 2K's.

LOL - you think they are going to implement pocket protection and fixed passing dynamics in the *2* months before release? That's a MAJOR fix, and the problem exists in Madden too. It's a flaw in EA's football engine, and not one that is going to be corrected in the last minutes before release.

plus if you think this game looks like last year.your just blind

This can't be the finished version of the sidelines. It just can't. The players aren't reacting to the action in front of them. They're still moving in unison. And yeah...in EA World, chain gangs don't exist.

The QB pass for the touchdown is a little ridiculous. All these things can be better. It's possible. In APF 2K8, you have to set your feet to make the best throw. It doesn't award rolling out and throwing off your back foot.

The graphics and lighting are better, but the atmosphere does seem strangely dull. And you have to admit, the field looks weird with no refs. Whether or not you care, don't you sense that something is missing?

But the fog is nice.

And still no cart for the major injuries either. I would hate to get hurt real bad in the Madden universe because I would have little to no help off the field.
I'll say this about it. It looks good. At least you can actually see the players legs running now. And the players look better.

But two things irk me.When a player scores, it still is just individual celebrations. No one comes and jumps on the player with excitement. And the players on the sidelines still just stand there showing no emotion. Just watching the game and playing pocket pool.
Yea, the presentation sucks and always will from the way I'm seeing things. Since we have a month to go at least I hope they can add some more features to make the College atmosphere feel like a real College game. I think NCAA 06 was the last great NCAA Football game IMO since it had the In-The-Zone feature that slowed down things to help you make big plays. It also had the option to argue bad calls by the ref which had implications in the game though if you got to abusive.

by the way…

in 2k’s version of all-pro (a game i never played), could you drop back 15-30 yards and throw passes?

i bet you could!

Yes. You could and as Chris Rock said....You can drive a car with your feet and that still does not make a good ^%$%^&* idea! The pass would be picked off, knocked away or a DE would chase down the QB. NONE OF THIS IS NECESSARY IF YOU HAVE A POCKET!!

......

i also cannot fathom how people are saying they took a step DOWN from last year?

did anyone play that 08 trash?!? ANYONE? player models sucked, the players ran like they had cinder blocks on their feet...animations were terrible.

this game is DEFINITELY a step up. If they can just get that atmosphere right...maybe get the screen to shake a bit...but at any rate, we'll be able to add our own sounds, so no biggie.

well the gameplay and graphics are fluid from what i see in those videos...

and im sorry, but what do you want EA to do...if a USER decides to drop back 15 yards (out of his own desire) and throw a pass, he should be able to do that.

i dont see too many guys doing 3-step drop back passes because they're afraid they'll get sacked...i certainly don't.
If they would create a pocket you could do a 3-step drop back without getting sack and it would add a whole new level of realism in the game...And do you even watch real football games or do you just like playing video games because in real football if you drop back 15 or 20 yards you're going to get sacked.
1. what im saying is that the user's are pulling back 15 and 20 yards. i don't have to do that when i play the game, but that's because i'm good at playing it.

2. i went to usc and went to the games. i'm a big usc football fan and i watch the games on hd-dvd. i just watched the illinois/usc matchup from the rose bowl LAST NIGHT.

3. if you want to drop back 3-yards, YOU CAN DO IT! but dont get upset if someone else drops back 15 and hauls a pass. the guys from ncaastrategies.com said that when they played it at the ncaa event, they tried 15-20 yard drop backs quite frequently, and many of the balls were not accurate. So?

wow just lost a lot of respect for ea i think their stuff is great but honestly they just took a huge step DOWN this year

If a user decides to drop back 15 yards and throw a pass, it should be an interception or wildly off target. And yeah, it's related to your next point - they shouldn't have to fear getting sacked straight away; there should be a pocket.
• Knight
looks pretty good but similar to past games.. I hope they add more to the atmosphere than what we saw in those videos because it still doesnt have the college atmosphere. also dont like how the o-line dies rite after the snap and you have to run back 15 yards to get a pass off... im getting it no matter what though because im finally going to college this fall and i want to play with my school.. Go Rutgers!!
• cdj
Pasta - Talking with Dave, we think this from an earlier build than what we played last week, FWIW. For example: Lack of animations on kickoff team, every defender has 'user indicator' when making tackle, etc. Personally, I'm not as impressed with these clips as I was with the game last week. (I'm sure the playing style of these users and difficulty level may affect some of that as well.)

You're right. It's up to the USER to drop back 15 yards. However, it's up to EA to PROGRAM the game to make users pay for it. When you drop back that far, 75% of the time the protection (if that's what EA calls it lol) should break down allowing for an easy sack. Instead, it works like a charm and it consequently takes the realism out of the game.
• Dre
I see some real good points in the game but I also see room for improvement
• The atmoshphere still seems dull. The sweeping views of the stadium also get really old. EA should really take a look at the way other games like 2K capture the realism of watching a game.
• KPage
Yall should take nothing away from those videos of the gameplay with reviewers from major gaming sites playing those games.

Things i notice...
1. No atmosphere at all, the crowd still jumps around obnoxiously
2.terrible animations
3.running looks asanine
4.way too many cheerleader/mascot scenes
5.sidelines are still underpopulated and the players on the sideline have the worst animation ever. (Check the fsu video up close.)
6.The crowd sounds dead to me
7.terrible commentary still
8.like the new lighting a lot

ea has lied and blown things out of proportion because this game really sounded good on paper. However, after watching the videos, i believe they have under-achieved big time. I thought the atmosphere was really going to be there this year, but by watching these vids, I am not impressed at all by the crowd animations or sounds. I will say that the game looks somewhat different than last year's and that is a very good thing.
I am not an ea hater or anything like that, Im simply disapointed that this game is under achieving big time. The technology of the next gen systems aren't even being tampered with here. I want to see ea push the envelope.
