EA Sports has posted up a new video for NCAA Football 09 that spotlights some of the advancements the game has made this year compared to last. You’ll see examples of what I could only describe after playing as the natural look and feel in the movement of players. That includes the movement during pre-snap and while catching kickoffs, running down the sidelines, convoy blocking with celebrations, bobbled catches, and post play continuation. It’s a pretty extensive look at areas that haven’t been really been displayed in the gameplay videos that are out.
I actually didn’t see the convoy blocking in the build we played last month. I pointed out an issue which looked awkward where one blocker would keep ahead of the ball carrier even if there was no one out there to block, rather than turn around and take on someone who was trailing. That may have been the first signs of the convoy but hopefully they’ve addressed that to where they won’t just run out ahead when they could be assisting the ball carrier properly.
You can watch the video here and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments.

I dont know what it is, the lighting or something, but the staduims look so much better than in 08. Look at the TCU dude get rocked and just pay attention to how detailed the stadium looks over last years.
So Pasta, thanks for the freekin delima I now have. I was definately not going to buy NCAA this year and get Madden. But man I dont know. I doubt Madden will have the convoy’s and other coooool presentation additions to NCAA this year. Maybe we will see at the community event some more goodies on Madden but I REALLY doubt it. Man I really need my NFL fix. 2k is just old school to me now, still a good game but give me NFL on next gen thats worth playing please.

BTW
Even though it was generated on a computer, that drumline in the vid was kick A@@!. I hope they added stuff like that in the menus. Very tired of all the school songs constantly playing in the background. But its better than those stupid NFL films songs.

when will ea add the fade route in the game if im on the 5 yard line i would like to throw it to the corner of the end zone and see if my receiver can come down with it.

Anyone else just get frustrated when you watch this video? This game looks great, but why in the world can’t EA just polish it off by adding details?
Where are the D2 schools? where are the bowl patches? where is the television presentation? where are the team entrances? where are the helmet stickers that you actually earn?
I just can’t understand why EA leaves out the little features that added so much to the old NCAA games on last gen. Iit’s frustrating to see such a beautiful game, but with such a lack of atmosphere.

Liked the video. Looks like it will be a great game. The lack of fans in the stands in certain stadiums looks great.
However, Pasta, could you see if they:
-Fixed the deep throw issue-i.e. the CPU never throws it further than 25 yards down field?
Thanks
Hopefuly, by NCAA 10 we will have:
-All Stadiums,
-Authentic Bowl/Champ game experience (i.e. presentation, atmosphere, patches and endzone logos)
- D-1AA schools (not all, but a few dozen)
Also, not to be picky, but was it me or was the SOONERS lettering on the jersey a bit small?
May 21, 2008 at 7:29 am
Being a Sooner fan, it seems EA always hoses up the Sooners uni’s somehow but really not enough to really upset me…I’m just glad they have their names on the back of the jerseys this year.

Things I liked:
1) The lighting — The pre-kick off animation with UCLA was awesome. The lighting looked too sweet.
2) The BC Eagles’ mascot animation acting as if he took off and landed on the player’s arm.
3) The bobbled catches. It looks like the bobbles won’t always lead to a completion.
4) The post-play animations are nice.
5) The grass…
I am not sure if EA is stepping up due to the Peter Moore factor but something is happening at EA to regain consumer confidence.
May 21, 2008 at 10:42 am
^^^ I agree. I think Moore was brought in to shake things up (hence D. Ortiz “leaving Madden”). I have confidence in Peter- he did great things for Sega, great things for MS, and this is a pretty nice start with EA.
Now they need to give us our bowl patches, and other miscellanious details we got spoiled by, and we’re all set. For god’s sake I want to be able to give my players eyeblack like on ps2.

“For god’s sake I want to be able to give my players eyeblack like on ps2.”
-No doubt! It’s a BIG part of the way college athletes look! I couldn’t believe it when they took the eye-black out when they went next gen! It pissed me off, and they need to bring it back!
Pasta, do you know if they’ve made the eye-black option available in NCAA 09?

i have the same questions

Hopefully all of the new rev helmets are in it looks like Tebow’s is. Half of the college players wear these. FSU’s 99 defense is sick but I think they are way too overated 94 overall, 92 off, 99 def (better than half of the Top 25). I believe they took Perriloux out of the game in the comparison #14 was playin QB for LSU.
May 21, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Pasta, when will you be starting up the sign-ups and what not?

Do the “older” rev helmets even exist in college football anymore? It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone have one.

THEY BETTER HAVE EYEBLACK!!!!
May 21, 2008 at 7:39 pm
“Looks fantastic, Nice to see they have the new facemasks but, Pasta, do you know if we’re getting bowl patches on the uniforms this year ?”
yea that was the good part about ps2 they had the patches for the bowl games.I wonder if they’ll have that, What you think pasta?
I also wanted to know if they’re gonna have the mouth guards?
May 22, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Hey, “TheUofOREGONDUCKS”
Nice to see another Gang Green fan! Should be a fun year to watch… I wonder if EA knows to put our late comers on the roster? Like freshman freak, LaMichael James, and JC transfer Justin Thompson. And I wonder how good they’ll make our star freshman Chris Harper and JC LaGarrette Blount?
Pasta, have you had a chance to look at Oregon’s roster to answer these questions??
GO DUCKS!!!!

THis looks great and i will get it no matter what since it is college football, but they could easily add more “atmosphere”.
\All that they would have to do is add basically 3 things. Intros for the home team would give a more collegiate feel to the beginning.
\Also, different celebrations at the end of the game depending on it’s importance could add to the “atmosphere” that every game in college is important for example; different player celebrations, fans rush the field, trophy presentation etc. This would give a unique feel to each win.
\Finally, they did a terrible job on the home field advantage in my opinion. Sure how the mini-game works is ok and it may simulate the difficulty of playing on the road, but we should feel the intensity and the fear. This could simply be done with the addition of a louder crowd and a screen shake for the louder the crowd gets. This may have already been on previous games but it would help people to “feel” the difficulty of a hostile environment rather than see it in their QB’s production. I think a screen shake would go a long way.
I don’t know, that’s just my opinion on it.
