I went through and pulled out some of the better clips that I had taken over the two days with Madden 09, NFL Head Coach 09, and NCAA Football 09. With Madden there is a lengthy superstar mode one which displays from the perspective of a RB, QB, CB, and DE, along with a few gameplay sequences. Head Coach has a short gameplay clip, a lengthy one displaying the play creator (which you can actually put together plays much faster than I show in that), and one that flips through all of the NFL’s coaches. Finally with NCAA there are a couple highlight videos which I liked a lot.

Previous videos can be found in the hands-on reports over the past few days. Continue on to view the videos.

yo pasta…one more question…i thought i read somewhere that a person would not need to be on a friends’ list to download a NCAA roster file…is this accurate information? just curious…because i live in Korea at the moment…and none of my friends on my friends’ list even play sports games…just making sure i will be able to get the renamed NCAA roster files…thanks…

That’s awsome! When you say they’re trying to make weather affect the game more, what exactly did you mean by that? Also do you know if it’s possible for EA to add accelerated clock via patch or is that something will have to wait til next year for?
Things like instances of slipping on wet grass/turf. I read that accelerated clock is a possibility for making it in, but they aren’t sure if they’ll be able to.

One other thing is apparently they are going to make it if you drop back too far from the line of scrimmage (12-15 yards) the passing icons will disappear. That will be a great addition and prevent people from dropping back like that without incurring some sort of penalty.
That’s a great idea! Also, one last question, do you know if signature running back styles are still in the game? I know they instituted it in ‘07 & I would’ve liked to see them expand on that but I haven’t heard much if any talked about it. Thanx for the prompt responses Pasta! This is great info!
I don’t believe that they have signature running styles, but that it is something they’re looking to do for next year.

For the most part that is probably true, though look at Online Team Play which EA added to FIFA and NBA Live through patches. So it isn’t unprecedented that something like that could be done.
yeah…but with those additions…i got the vibe that they were planning on those modes being in the final copy of the game…but simply ran out of time to get them in…because they really weren’t released too long after the release of the game…i think a planned add-on is slightly different from a feature being added due to the fans imploring for it…

Right, but in the sense that they would hold back something just to have it as a new feature for the next year that doesn’t necessarily hold true after the Online Team Play additions. Consider that those two games got no credit for OTP in reviews since they weren’t out at the time. Overall though I agree with you, I doubt they would add accelerated clock in a patch.

that’s awesome…still more stoked for Madden…but i am pretty happy my Missouri Tigers aren’t going to be such pushovers this year…that being said…in real life, i think it might be hard for them to duplicate the season they had last year again…

On to my question…I noticed in screenshots and some vids that it appears Madden 09 doenst look to have the clear visor option that NCAA 09 has implemented this year. Is this true, did you see an option for this in the create a player or edit player?

clear visors are confirmed in Madden 09. lead gameplay man Ian Cummings said so in a post over at the OS Forums

Great stuff Pasta I appreciate the work just wanted to ask everyone whats up with EA?!? For the 08 football games NCAA was lightyears ahead of Madden and it seems like this year will be the same how does Madden not have the “ICE THE KICKER” feature?!?!?! Whats up and was it just me or did NCAA 08 have far better passing than Madden?!?! The Madden producers need to trade notes with the NCAA producers the games used to be on the same page

    Pasta-

How come EA can tone the camera flashes down, add a 1 man return formation, and make the weather more of a factor in Madden….yet they can’t add bowl patches, superbowl patches, or non-generic endzones?

This is honestly the one thing that drives me crazy- why is there no sideline interation like in NFL head coach implemented into Madden? Doesn’t seem like it should be hard??

In Madden vid #5, Clev/Bal, the def AI seemed a bit more agreesive. Did you find that to be the case in other cases.

Also, does the 4-man rush in NCAA, or the lack thereof, translate over to Madden?

    Thanks for the vids.

We weren’t able to connect online to see that, but I’m hopeful we’ll get screenshots or videos of it in the coming future. Not sure on those questions, but I do know that in the playoffs there will be a bracket that everyone will see when the log into the league that supposedly is pretty cool.

I noticed that in the McNabb video, he had a quicker release like in real life compared to the Ryan video were it took a little longer to release the ball. So do QBs actually throw a little different than others or is it just me?

    Hey Pasta,
Do you know if madden has fixed the running between the tackles? I hate when I run in between the tackles or right next to a guy blocking and a defensive player who is engaged with an offensive tackle “magically” breaks free and just happens to latch on to me. If they didn’t fix the issue, do you mind bringing it up? Also, do you know if they fixed the tackle issue where if a defensive player falls and your player gets too close and then they automatically fall? It really annoyed me to see on third downs my quarterback get sacked by a guy who just face planted into the ground right next to me. If they didn’t fix this issue, do you mind bringing it up as well? Lastly, (sorry for the long post) do you know if they introduced “half” tackle stats? For example, a defensive end having 12.5 sacks. I wouldn’t mind if this wasn’t in the game but it would seem a little more realistic if it was in.

Well back when I played it at the end of April Oregon had a playbook that consisted of all shotgun or pistol formations, and one ace formation. Not sure if that is right, or if it has changed since then.

I don’t remember anything specific being mentioned about differentiating QBs in that way, but you may be right, there may be subtle differences.

I don’t remember anything specific on the tackling you mentioned. Not to say it didn’t occur, but the memorable tackles I can think back to were pretty solid hits and wrapups. I don’t think they added half stats this year.
