The Sporting News has posted up an interview with Billy Beane who is a big part of 2K Sports’ recently announced MLB Front Office Manager. While the interview is about more than just the game there are some elements of it that are discussed that were not mentioned in the press release. It is definitely worth a read if you have interest in MLB Front Office Manager, fantasy baseball, and some of his GM philosophies.

There’s one part of the game that I love, which is like owner’s competence — meaning that the better decisions you make over time, you increase your owner’s competence and your ability to make those decisions and, therefore, get sort of more leeway to make more decisions and ultimately, hopefully, have an increased budget, etcetera, etcetera. So, that to me was just a small nuance of this game that is a part of this job that the public really doesn’t see a lot. You want to sort of “manage up,” which is a major part of this job.

Again I’m intrigued by this title for a few reasons. The first is that it is being developed out of Blue Castle, creators of The BIGS. The second is I’ve always loved the micromanagement that comes naturally with with the sport. Many baseball fans are that same way and that is why it may have more potential than NFL Head Coach. The themes just don’t translate as well with football. Finally the big thing I took from the press release has to do with the online fantasy league. Just as with NCAA Football 09’s online dynasty mode, I would find much more value and longevity by being involved with other people in a single league.

Unless it's going to be $30 or so for PS3/360, I'd be more than happy to buy this for PC. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

ok this would be dumb to buy.. the end all to baseball sims like this one wants to be is out of the park baseball. seriously if you are at all interested in the ins and outs of baseball go download out of the park baseball.. its the most in depth sports video game ever and 2k is wasting their time with developing this game.

go look up out of the park baseball, im really quite surprised pasta hasn't said anything about it. well then again.. not really surprised at all.

I would have written this game off if it was being made by VC or Kush but now I'm not so sure. Head Coach bored me to death but it might be different with baseball. I'll have to see how things turn out, but 2K better not hide this game up to release like others or I won't even consider it a possibility.

I cant wait for this game now...

My biggest problem with NFL Head Coach is coaching during the actual games. They need to make an NFL GM game. Where the games are simmed and you can hire/fire coaches and coordinators.

I hope this game can live up to its potential. Although it is not a new concept, games like High Heat and Out Of The Park have been doing this same thing for the PC for YEARS.

2K can't get their main baseball game to work right, so I have no hopes for this game.

    I think I'm gonna pass.
