I’ve gotten my hands on the features list for MLB 2K9. This represents the first real info for the game which is set to be in stores on March 3rd.

As expected it appears that they’ve attempted to simplify several aspects of the game. The trading card system looks to have been improved and more has been done to add to the authenticity of the experience. Providing the basics such as a smooth framerate and solid online performance are a necessity for this year, but other than those things is there enough here to deliver the game consumers have been hoping for?

Continue on to check out what is in store for this year and leave your thoughts in the comments!

does anyone else have the ps2 version? on mine i got the game and the stances weren't set to the players and the all stars weren't last years all stars. anyone else have the same problem?
  • mlballday
the show is good but i always liked the 2k series bettter its just funner for me the show doesnt have homerun derbys during season play it does not have any rain delays. i like the 2k series because it is more realistic so i think the little things they touch up on is going to make this game good.
  • they need to have somtan for u can create a crowd chant and creats a stadium that wuld be awesome

Not a big fan of 2K9...2K7 and 2K8 destroy 2K9. 2K you've managed to make the game worse then make it better. Why did you change the pitching view from 2K8? My 12 year old brother has more of a break on his curve ball then 2K9 pitchers do (thats with me creating a pitcher and making his attributes all 100)? The camera view in the field sucks, all of the outfielders look like dots moving around the field! It looks like the blimp view on the old Maddens.

On a postive note, i do like the batting. You guys have done a heck of a job making it more realstic because now you can actually walk. Before (2K8) if you were a batter and you tying to be patient at the plate you would have to get lucky hell to get a walk.

My opion if you would take 2K9 batting and put it with 2K8's pitching and fielding, you would have a hell of a game.
  • jared
hey what button u push to move your outfielders faster when u try to catch a ball please let me know i have the 360 my e-mail is jayrod232007@yahoo.com
  • duckington
    no create a team???
  • Double r
Are U kidding that's like March madness without Dickie V, They make the game. " Keeping the ball dooown' Some players like the ball middle of the plate in"
  • Mike
2K Sports must concentrate on the basics more. Create a solid game of baseball, then add all the special effects.
  • Tim
Outside of the real life real world movement which sounds cool as hell it's so far behind The Show it's unbelieveable.
  • Rob
okay so i guess 360 users still have no " road to the show" mode or career mode or whatever you want to call it... guess im buying the show on PS2 then. Why is it that they are jacking around with trading cards and vendors in the stands but NOT adding one of the best play modes in sports games. I LOVE baseball and I LOVE baseball games, but after playing a full season it gets a little old, but when you are only doing your at bats and trying to make the allstar game or the hall of fame, you can make it through multiple seasons and the replay value stays high. oh but wait i can add special effects to replays!!! priorities, gotta love em
  • Wow this is pretty good. Great presentation but no game trailers or picture to prove it, The Hitting seems to have been revamped but no demos to show us, No mention of the Franchise mode, Superstar mode or Online mode but they give us the Manager walking around, No visuals of the graphics but they tell us about the signature style. I wonder if 2K sports knows that when you say "making MLB2K9 the most realistic baseball sim to date." that means that playing the game feels like playing Baseball? I wish Microsoft would just buy out the MLB rights and give it to EA because if 2K9 suks they will lose alot of Baseball fans going for the Show. Its simple marketing but i'll hold my judgement till March 2nd or March 3rd when they release the Demo (Clowns).
  • Joe
About time they included real-time environments! Just hope they have the bell swing in Phillie's stadium!
  • codyblahblahdump
    THIS WILL ROCK
  • Well hope the new Stadiums will be in Tact for this game
  • Ryan
The signature styles seem cool, but it seems like most of the new features are focused toward online play. I agree that the online play really sucked last year and needed improvement. With all due respect to all the people who love to play online, I am more interested in the gameplay. Why do we need new controls every year.

*sigh* better franchise and some sort of 1st person/Superstar mode like the show has is what i was hoping to see something about. i'm not buying a dang PS3 just to play the Show. if i had money to burn i would.
  • Luis
i cant wait to this game comes out i didnt get 2k8 because i heard it wack but im deffenitely getting 2k9
  • Billy
Tim, I won't even comment! That is a very, very ignorant comment! Just because you don''t know Japanese players, doesn't mean other people don't. What do you think they watch over in Japan? And for your info, Pro Yakyuu has been rated higher then the show on numerous sites, included in the opinions of players who have played both games.
  • Ok, I'm thrilled with the update at least.... but what about franchise mode?

Will franchise mode be deep? It's very scary that there was no mention of it by 2k sports. Xbox users really might be screwed if they drop the ball this year.
  • Tim
Haha Pro Yakyuu Spirits is terrible. It's a huge waste of time to play. I'm sorry but playing with players that nobody has ever heard of is stupid. It goes 1) The show---2 and a distant 2) 2K and----3) Pro Yakyuu Spirits. Nothing baseball-related tops the show. End of story.
  • Billy
Pro Yakyuu Spirits > The Show > 2k. Pasta you should really look into covering it. We need more people playing this game! Although I do like the small comunity! Check out Pro Yakyu Pasta!
  • IIII 47 IIII
Nice list. We dont need gimmicky features, just update/improve on what ya got. Looking forward to trying this out.
  • Joe Cool
    MLB:The Show > mlb2k

no info at all! no new game modes except playoff mode? what about a 'be a pro' rip of some sort like every 'successful' baseball game franchise has. Wonder if they fixed the bad sliders so that minor league 2nd basemen don't hit 3 homers a game against roy halladay. maybe we'll get real roster updates and more often than every 2 months. This franchise has been a bust since day one and unfortunately for us fans of the sport we haven't had a worthwhile experience on xbox since mvp. If this game blows like the rest of them...i have to buy a ps3 for the show. It's not worth it for a baseball fan to suffer through bad programming, frame rates, and a staff that apparently has no knowledge on how a baseball simulation is suppossed to play.
  • 2K would have been better to list the following:

    1) Framerate 60 FPS....
    2) Pitching mechanic overhauled
    3) All new presentation

Instead, 2K listed things that are already in the game (i.e. fans reaching for foul balls)....

I will wait until the demo to make my judgment but this list did not impress....
  • I was disappointed by MLB 2K8 and the subsequent updates afterwards. It was a game that held so much promise. And I really wanted to dig farther into, but after a while I just got tired of it and quit playing. I could never go back to it. I'm hoping that this year the game will be what 2K8 should have been last year and much more.
  • finally something about this game. i can't wait till it's out. hopefully they realease a finished and more polished game and we don't have to wait forever for a patch. i'll be getting the show as well so hopefully i'll have two great bball games to play and keep me busy for awhile.
  • nick clark
to many home runs for MLB2K8. They need a much more realism if they want to even come close to MLB the show. They need to break down the physics of the game. Like in the NBA 2K series.
  • There aren't a ton of features like The Show, but if 2K gets it right, I'd rather a normal amount of good features than a ton of bad one's, although in The Show's case they'll probably be awesome. Anyway, I'm not exactly exicted either, but I we should wait until we see the game in action before declaring it trash.
  • mike
Yeah Hopeully Pasta Giving info to EA so they can bring back the MVP series.
  • smokez4dayz
Pasta couldn't help you find out anything from the 2K camp. He's an EA Insider, and if we all know this, don't you think 2K knows this? I wouldn't let this guy near anything 2k, so he can tell his EA cronies what they're doing wrong? hell to the no! The only thing that stopped 2k8 was the pitching, the game was smooth, and fun, and looked incredible. If they simplify the pitching/hitting interface, the game will be received well. Still two months from release. videos will soon pop up all over.
  • Do you really think Pasta needs to tell EA what 2K is doing wrong?

And to say that pitching was the only downfall to 2K8 is ludicrous. Let's see....Frame rate? Sucked...Presentation? Sucked. Online play? Impossible (Latin for Sucked). Lighting? Sucked. Statistical tracking? Sucked. Music? Sucked. Cloth physics? Sucked. Pacing of the game? Sucked.

2K8 was a huge step backward from 2K7. If The Show was multi-platform (will never be but what if?) 2K sales would die....

However, I am hoping that 2K9 plays the way it should so I can have a game for each console....
  • Mike
It sounds like their at leat trying to focus on the bugs that plagued 2k8 hopefully they revamped the whole system and hopefully it's like NBA 2k9 but I'll believe it when I see it in March. I wish 2k would provide some info on what the game looks like but this is at least a start.
  • artycone
is john miller and joe morgan coming back
  • Joker75
Real time sounds like it is going to be Real boring, just like real baseball!
  • vtmike52
Baseball games should be realistic, not "arcade-like" for video gamers. If you don't like baseball that may be your problem. No gimmicks, let the pitcher/batter battle dominate game play.
  • Dom
I'm a little disapointed there is no big updates to the franchise mode. With The Show adding 40-man rosters and September Call-ups I would have expected 2k9 to counter.
