It may have taken over two months but the second developer diary video is now out for MLB Front Office Manager. This one focuses on scouting, evaluating, and drafting talent.
Unfortunately we still know next to nothing about the online fantasy leagues and the game is out in two days. I’m still interested in running one of the leagues, however given the circumstances I’m going to wait to make sure it will even be worthwhile to do so. If the mode is promising then I’ll put up another posting to take sign-ups and set up a section in the forums dedicated to it.
Continue on to watch the video and leave your thoughts in the comments.

well that told basically nothing

I'm having doubts about getting this. I preordered, and I'll most likely still get it on launch day. The online fantasy league is what I'm really hoping is good. If it's not, this will be a dud.

Why so much negativity towards this product it is not released
Thank god for once something isnt hyped in post 2000 world
I am going to wait for multiple reviews
Review what is similar in each and form my opinion for there
I just glad there is at least visual game going on with nice looking stadiums in a SIM sweet not just texted
based but has a great GUI for once.

Hyped doesnt mean not telling people who want to know how the game works. Those couple terrible reviews its gotten has pointed out bad menus and such and we dont even know how the online fantasy works. That has nothing to do with hype but with lack of info.

i feel a total bust from this game. even though there is pretty much no hype it looks like there isnt much to offer and isnt promising

Video cuts off at 19 seconds for me
January 25, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Why no demo?
January 25, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Because then no one would buy it….
January 25, 2009 at 5:34 pm
I have read three reviews and none were positive. All mentioned that the menu system is broken.
I am not one to allow others' opinions impact my decision to buy but the reviews were pretty much identical.

Even though no one is saying anything good about this game I'm still going to get it. I love baseball and I like to do the things that this game has to offer so I'm going to buy it no matter what.

I recommend that you buy Out Of The Park 9 for the PC. You can download it by putting OOTP 9 in the search engine.
Although it is text based, it is deep and has all of the real teams, past and present.
January 25, 2009 at 8:51 pm
OK. I will try it. How much does it cost?
January 26, 2009 at 5:28 pm
$39.99….
January 26, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Ouch. I'm not really paying for MLB FOM but I'd have to pay for OOTP. $40 is more than I want to pay for a PC game.

Was That the new yankee stadium i saw
January 26, 2009 at 12:14 am
soooo…. if u were to try this just because you were really really excited about it in the beginning and now you're just hanging on to the notion that it could still be good, like holding a pocket pair of aces you know just got cracked but you just for some reason dont wanna lay em down cause maybe, just maybe you're wrong….. lol.
should u get this for PC for the mod possibilites, since a patch would prob be out of the question?
January 26, 2009 at 5:11 pm
I'd like to know whats wrong with the menu system. Are they broken as in there are bugs? Or is it just monontonous (sp?)? Is that the only thing that is wrong with the game? Menu systems are going to be inherently bad on consoles games when you compare vs. PC. If the logic of the game is sound and the depth is what I think it is then I think this game could be perfect for a simulation.
January 26, 2009 at 5:30 pm
From what I read, the menus don't give a whole lot of detail and are troublesome to maneuver through. Again, these are reviews. I recommend if interested in the game at least give it a rent. There are many games that get mid-range to terrible reviews that I enjoy….

Does anyone actually have the link to the article reviews? I can't find them on the Game Informer or Xbox review sites?
Thanks in advance

is anybody noticing the player ratings in these videos? i think the highest rated guy i saw was adam dunn with like a 70 overall rating.
January 26, 2009 at 10:10 pm
I noticed that too. I'd like to know more about how the player ratings are and what is considered good.
January 26, 2009 at 11:03 pm
lol. i'd like to know anything but i guess we gotta get the game to find stuff out. damn you 2k for makin us have to spend money on your product.
January 26, 2009 at 11:06 pm
*update* i was informed by a Blue Castle Designer on the OS forum that the game uses a 20-80 rating scale. odd.
January 27, 2009 at 1:07 am
I believe that's the traditional scouting scale.
January 27, 2009 at 1:36 am
ahh. good point.
January 27, 2009 at 4:14 am
Have not found this game Digitally or Retail for PC as of 1/26
Anyone get this yet?
January 27, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I hope they have more than just an overall rating of 20-80. Would be pretty lame if you couldn't see what made up the players overall "potential"
January 28, 2009 at 1:47 am
I bought it, menus are pretty bad. You have to go to each main menu to get into another menu. There are no shortcuts like go to a player screen and re-sign player, or designate player. Everything is done by going thru transaction windows.
Player scaling from what I've seen is ok, there are some head scratching ratings like Matt Capps (Cubs fan playing the Pirates) being a 75/80 but Russell Martin for instance being only a 60. (I don't think Martin is a closer to 80 than Capps, but he's not that much worse, or better yet Capps isn't that good.
Another annoyance I've found is changing your starting hitters, for some reason you have to do it thru the batting lineup and not the depth chart.

I haven't been offered a trade yet, which I does happen (I've only played into spring training). Also you don't have a good way of scouting other teams farm systems so it seems like it will be really tough to trade proven players for stud prospects. Kinda stinks if you want to build a team from bad to good like I'm trying to do with the Pirates.
I was hoping they would do a better job with real minor leaguers and I did not find Pedro Alvarez in the Bucco's minors or Josh Vitters in the Cubs Minors.
The last unusual thing I've seen was Ervin Santana, Clayton Kershaw & Russel Martin hitting the FA wire. Don't think any MLB team in their right mind would make those decisions. However, I need to see if the teams that let them go were simply under constraints which made them not sign the players. I went after Kershaw & Santana and was successful in signing both.
January 28, 2009 at 1:50 am
On the positive side I offered some lopsided and some trades that usually go thru in some games like Matt Capps for Travis Snider or Matt Capps for Casey Kotchman and both were rejected even though Capps has a higher rating than both. So the game seems to take into account player potential or position.
Game follows the rules pretty well to my knowledge.
Saying all the negatives above I played for 3 hours and time flew, I found myself intrigued by the game and the depth in which it allowed me to customize my team. The menus definitely need work but if 2k sports does issue a simple patch to update the menu system I feel like this game would be pretty solid. This will definitely be good for people who have the patience and are looking for a console baseball sim.
Hope this helps,
Justin
