With the disaster that MLB Front Office Manager turned out to be we can now focus on a game that looks to have some potential. 2K Sports has finally lifted the restriction on media sites for posting videos of MLB 2K9. Some have already begun to provide them with more sure to arrive later today. Below are links to the first posted gameplay videos and I’ll be adding more as they show up.

While it isn’t yet enough to start making full evaluations on the game you can get a sense for the presentational elements especially. While I really like having the stamina and composure displayed I’m somewhat bothered by the giant pitch circle and subsequent flash of light. Feel free to post your thoughts on the videos in the comments.

the thing with 2k is they don't need to market their games as much as other companies, because they are usually good anyway. take a look at nba 2k9 vs. live 09. EA release like 10 videos of live in spring and summer 09. while 2k released the first video of 2k9 in august. nba 2k9 was clearly better and all reviewers agreed.

Companies like EA are just marketing machines, and in the end put out lackluster games, despite a few great games.

Really? The Show is geared towards casual gamers? Again, really? You have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Do you really think 2K is making baseball games for hardcore gamers? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I agree with Mr. Woods. The Show is easier to pick up and play compared to 2K's control scheme.

I own both systems and the only reason I bought a PS3 was for The Show. The 360, in terms on online experience (although it is $50), and overall game library buries the PS3. Sadly, the only attention my PS3 gets is during baseball season (minus Metal Gear Solid 4)….

After seeing the other vids, 2K looks better than last year but that isn't hard to do….

The Show may be easier to pick up and play but it isn't easy to master. I actually know people who've gotten frustrated because they have trouble scoring in The Show. You have to be a patient hitter. This is unlike 2K where even with the more complicated controls you can jack out 5 HRs a game.

You are right. However, you can adjust the sliders to make the game more "arcade" like.

I like the fact that you have to look for pitches in certain locations. What I did was guess fastball every pitch and look for it in a zone where I could handle it. If it was outside that zone, I would let it go, strike or not. I also earned many walks this way, but not too many which makes The Show more realistic….

I don't care what anyone says, these videos look pretty damn good to me. And as far as I'm concerned, that's all that really matters. I only have an XBox 360, and this will be my baseball game this year. I am feeling much better about that after seeing all these videos.

2k….. I would be embarassed to post these videos. Now we know why you were holding the videos out. The game WILL BE awarded WORST GAME OF THE YEAR. It makes me laugh that you guys still buy the game. I am a 360 owner and every1 should hold out from this garbage called MLB 2K9. They don't care if the game is good, when they have your money.

  • LMAO!

You need to stop smoking 4 some dayz because you sound stupid as hell… 1. The Show comes out on 3/3/09 too, and 2. guess what? 2K9 will also be released for PS3. LOL @ mr wood – Killzone 2, inFamous, God of War III and Uncharted 2 say HI :)

    • Mister Woods

aaaahhh…I see they have computer labs at mental institutions now.

None of those games you named are out yet. not a one. Also, I don't even have to LIST the xbox360 games that have racked up game of the year nominations and awards – you know what they are, waive to their award cases! :)

But back to the topic: MLB 08 THE SHOW was the highest rated PS3 exclusive title in 2008 if I am not mistaken – this raised eyebrows amongst ***ALL*** ps3 owners who'd been dying for a killer app for their system for 2 years. In fact, this may have been the highest rated ps3 exclusive before MGS4 dropped…

I'm convinced that an overwhelming majority of all of these "2k sucks! THE SHOW RAWKS!" comments are from people who aren't even fans of baseball…2k8 got an overall 76% average, and THE SHOW got an overall 85% average…neither of the two games were perfect.

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/Skihawks Skihawks

That just goes to show how accurate the ratings are if 2K8 got a 76%. A majority of people, even those that like2K as I do, thought that game sucked…

      • LMAO!

You really are slow, you tried to say that the PS3 was on its way out, and I gave you 4 examples of why its stronger than ever with 2009 releases. And FYI, MGS4 and LBP are 2 games off the top of my head that scored ~95 average IN 2008. (that is 10 pts higher than The Show, so you dont rack you pea brain with the math) LMAO! And so you know THE TRUTH, 2K8 had an average score of 70.

Finally, last time I looked, GTA IV was the GOTY… waive to Rockstar :)

I loved the Show last year and didn't even try 2K8 after playing the crappy demo. That being said, I'm going to rent both this year. The Show doesn't look that much different than last years while 2K looks light year sbeter than last years. Watching the vids, I really liked the 2K presentation, and I thought the framerate was good. Some things that nothered me in the Show last year were 1: the lacksadaisical throws for force outs, 2: the repetitiveness in the commentary, 3: the amount of hits up the middle, and 4: there was something missing from the Franchise mode. I'm going to rent both and if 2K delivers more than that is what I'll go with this year. I got a real good feeling watching these vids that 2K will be good this year, while trhe Show will be a lot like last years.

I'm new to the website and I'm not trying to start any arguments but if you only own a 360, but you are a fan of baseball I would advise going to a friends house who owns a PS3 and try the Show. If you open minded you should have no issue trying the game and if you're a baseball fan you shouldn't mind trying another baseball game. If you don't like it after than then fine but if you're going to pretend it's not there and put blinders on to it then you're doing a disservice to yourself as a gamer and as a fan of baseball.

MLB 2k9 and MLB the show are both coming out on the PS3 the same day as MKB 2k9 comes out for the 360.

I give this advice to baseball fans and gamers only, not 2k or 360 loyalists, as they probably choose to live in a bubble.
