Operation Sports is the first site to post true impressions of MLB 2K9. Previous hands-on previews have pretty much just summed up the features while making sure to avoid discussing their opinions on the game. However Steve over at OS has laid out some of the things he likes and some of the things that he has found bothersome in the game.

Basically it sounds as though that as expected the game is improved overall. The commentary, presentational elements and flow to the game due to the real-time events provide a much better experience. However some issues such as the framerate (at times) and the CPU swinging at every strike are reason for concern.

I have seen slowdown and loss of frames during certain cut scenes and foul ball situations. Obviously, these instances will not affect the gameplay at all, but there are some that do. For example, I have seen slowdowns on grounders in the infield, pop ups that drop just in front of an outfielder and on occasion after a bunt when the catcher is throwing the ball to first base. Just remember, I am not seeing this stuff all the time, but I am seeing it.

I still can’t get used to seeing that huge pitching circle and flash of light too, I guess I’ll have to see when playing 2K9 if that continues to irk me or if it really isn’t a big deal. Click here to head over and check out the full hands-on preview at OS.

No Problem, I just don't get all the hating, I come here for good quality info not "my game is better than yours"

I am glad you posted a review. I want to see if the framerate issues are addressed, as well as the player throwing a ball while looking at hot babes in the stands issue. Gotta get that fixed.

In all fairness, The Show stutters at times as well. From the videos I saw, the game looked much better than last year's. To be nit-picking, someone pointed out the location of the numbers on the front of the Reds' alternate uniforms.

I noticed that a number of uniforms are inaccurate or have absurdly large logos (Red Sox hats were one of the biggest violators). Again, I am not a fan of people who get on developers because a teams' socks are colored incorrectly but the uniform numbers not being proportionate to the uniform and the fonts of the last names on the back of the jerseys detracts from the visuals of the game.

I know it is a little thing but this, to me, tells me that the developers aren't taking the time to get the little things correct and can detract from the immersion of the game…

Overall though, I am looking forward to playing the demo and hope enjoy it enough to warrant a purchase…..

Framerate fixed with a patch? You, as a consumer, would accept that? 2K8 had the worst framerate ever. 2K knowing this should have fixed it over the past year….

As far as ports, are you serious? What do you think all of 2K's games are? Ports from the previous generation. What has changed? Oh, the games have gotten worse…Ooops…I almost missed that

I have both a 360 and a PS3, so I dont get involved with which system is better. It doesnt matter to me. It is all about the games. Majority of my sports games I buy on the 360. They seem to play a little better on the 360.

With that said, The Show is worth getting a PS3 for if you really like baseball, plain and simple. It is night and day over the abortion 2K put out last year. And yes, the pitching SUCKED Donkey Kong in 2k8. I am sure the little kiddies got a kick out of the arcade aspect of it, but they dont have a clue about a true baseball sim or pitching strategy. The meatball aspect was so broken, you wonder what the hell 2k was thinking. By the way, I liked 2k7 as a fun arcade game.

2k9 looks like it has potential and is leaning in the right direction, but The Show is a very intuitive game for the person who knows baseball, and has played the game at the higher levels above high school. It scales very well though for the more inexperienced. But it will separate the men from the boys.

My feelings exactly regarding the stick in 2k8.

I play sports and racing games usually and this is the first year that the EA games were very similar on the PS3 to the 360 in terms of control and framerate.

Archie, you are missing the greatness of The Show, if you are only judging it for playing online. That's pretty shallow, buddy. Most baseball sim people know what I mean.

It has nothing to do with "sucking at using it". It is a broken design that does not simulate the real game. If you are off on your release point the ball does not go right down the middle of the plate for a meatball every time in real life. In fact, most of the time, if your release is off in real life, the pitch will not even be close to a strike. Whoever designed this result and philosophy for 2k8 was a moron, plain and simple. And the fact that arcade kiddies actually accepted this shows that the target audience for 2k8 was children who dont have a clue about the real game of baseball.

Man oh Man, that heroin must be delicious over there this morning…

well, for the record, video game companies have had framerate issues on final released copies of games forever, and have subsequently been releasing patches to fix those problems as well. this is nothing new in gaming.

However, just YESTERDAY, espn concluded its diary franchise, and added this little tidbit:
"Anyway, the Giants start the season 12-8 with the new lineup and on the brand new code I just got from 2K Sports. I have to say, the game is playing even smoother (and smarter) than the previous build of the game. Not only have the frame-rate issues been almost completely ironed out…."

and lastly, – i challenge you, or anyone, to get on youtube and look up THE SHOW 06 for the **PS2**, and then look up THE SHOW 08/09 and seriously try to argue w/me that this game isn't a PORT.same user interface? *CHECK* same player models? *CHECK* same press triangle, square, circle, or X to pitch/hit? *CHECK*!!

MLB's reign is over. watch the reviews.

Only people who royally suck at using the right stick throw meatballs. Whenever I was off on my release point, the pitch would go wide right, wide left, high, or low off the plate, but I NEVER would throw meatballs. Only when I first started learning to use the stick did I throw meatballs.

Also, please explain to me how actually having to maneuver an analog stick to produce a desired pitch is more "arcade" than punching a button.

2k8 was an abortion as everybody knows. End of story. Anyone that sticks up for it needs to look down his pants and see what he is overcompensating for.

Did I say it was a good game? I said the pitching wasn't as difficult as people make it out to be. It's not my fault you can't do more than punch a button like a neanderthal.
