Recording HD Gameplay Videos

I recently made the purchase of an HD PVR. From what I had read about it and watched samples of this would provide great quality HD recordings as opposed to the capture card I have been using which did not do HD. I’m excited to be able to produce some HD video content going forward.

So I’ve been experimenting some since hooking it up earlier this week. While everything was easy enough to get going I’m having an issue with the playback of the videos after they are uploaded to hosting sites. When the action picks up there seems to be some stuttering. This is despite how they play back perfectly on my computer beforehand. I’ve heard from some people who are seeing the same thing but others who aren’t, so I’m not sure what the deal is yet. But wow do they look incredible.

So I’ll continue to experiment with what to do with the files after recording and hopefully get that figured out. To watch a couple samples full size click here, here, or here and then make sure to select “Play in HD”. This is how you can view them largest and in the highest quality. You can also continue on to view the videos in smaller form.

  • Your vids not a prob for me.......stuttering could be just tweaking the settings as I had the same probs at first. Bought the HD-PDR last year.....could not be happier. Had the HAVA before. Still tweaking to find the best vid to post. Although the Tube has improved with the HD, still needs more.____I have also had good success with Viddler after Vimeo [prob the best, IMO] went away.____I have subscribed to your Tube site and I would love to hear any settings that you find that are a "perfect" scenario.____Even at the settings comparable, yours looks better. Could be the stadium or the console.....but I won't go there, Xbox versus PS3, lol.____I'll be watching, but label in the description each vid of your settings.

Me either. I used to get HD when I was using Windows OP. Now that I'm using Linux, I don't get HD anymore.
  • No one knows, and I doubt they're going to say anything more than "before release" after what they pulled last year.
  • Its actually quite reasonably priced.

Great videos Pasta. These videos look awesome in HD. If you can answer my question that would be great, and if you don't know that is fine too? Why doesn't any1 know when MLB 2K9 coming out with a demo? Also, Why hasn't a demo come out yet? Thankyou PASTAPADRE.....

Lol, I agree. Those videos look great, and I don't even have a high def monitor but they look just like they do when I play them on my 360 on a HDTV.

I'm getting the stuttering as well, both on my Mac and a PC at work. The image quality is outstanding, though.

How much did that PVR set you back? I've always wanted to be able to capture video.

Pasta, check this link out for using HD videos on Youtube. They talk about proper comression, bitrate etc. It might help.

I can't wait, mate! I'm going to watch them all tonight when I get back to my pad.
  • I started thinking about that as a possibility too. Especially once I found that they play smoothly when I watch them smaller and how some people are saying they aren't having that issue.

Don't know if it's related, but I recently found out I can't play HD videos on Youtube using my iMac Power PC (the ones made before Apple started using Intel chips). There's too much stuttering. So your problems may be from the computers that play your videos, and not the encoding.

The quality on those videos is fantastic. Can't wait to see some of the MLB 2K9 demo if they actually get one out this year.
