There has been a great deal of player movement in these early hours of free agency. As I did last year I am going to try and keep track of the major transactions and put the players in their respective new uniforms in Madden 09.

I’m attempting to wait until the deals have been made official and have a bunch more ready to go that are approaching that point. This is just the first set. Look for another Saturday evening and additional ones as warranted. Be sure to leave your thoughts on the impact of these moves whether they be related to the NFL or Madden.

Is there anyway someone here can set up a madden roster update with these free agent moves? Or do we all have to do them ourselves?

And Cory, I hear ya... it's a lame move, but the Bears never do anything exciting. I remember last year the exciting move was signing Marty Booker. They wont make any exciting moves, and they wont make any exciting draft picks either. We can dream though...
  • Cory
1st. Are these jersey numbers right?
2nd. Why aren't the Bears signing anyone of significance other than another OT. A horrible one at that from Carolina.
  • TJ is looking like theyre only option at picking up a receiver
i dont think theyll take a shot at Crabtree now with that stress fracture in his foot
if im correct Shaun Alexander ended his great run with a stress fracture in his foot
  • pat
laveranues coles is going to the dolphins...great relationship with chad pennington and a team with desperate needs of a multi-talented wr....im a jet fan and coles days in ny are gone forever....chad to coles will happen again...TRUST ME

omg joe berger o my hes like my favoret player ever and hes sooooooooooo good i went to his pre-school hes my idol
  • phins fan
no he is not silly bills fan hes just visiting them
  • CaptainCrown
Wouldn't mind seeing Michael Boley in that Giants blue!
  • GOBEARS09
Matt Cassell IS ON THE CHIEFS NOW
  • Has anybody seen the Albert Haynesworth contract? He gets $28 million in year 7 of his deal. Talk about back loaded. Good luck seeing that money. He'll be a free agent in a few years.
  • Trust me Winslow had a terrible attitude. The owner was furious that a player who could have been cut when he broke is leg and contract in a motorcycle accident would complain about loyalty. On top of all that he only did 1 thing well which is receiving. He was a sub par blocker and a bad influence so he will not be missed.
  • Gotta be tough to not even be close to being as good as your pops.

...now if only Braylon Edwards could learn to hold onto a ball.
  • New England is trying to acquire Julius Peppers now from Carolina
  • Done deal Brian Dawkins is a Denver Bronco and Matt Cassel is a KC Chief for a 2nd round pick
  • "Cassel is the second part of the trade that sent Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs on Friday. In exchange, the Patriots acquire the Chiefs' second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL draft.

The agreement is contingent on both players passing their physicals. " - ESPN.com

Holy crap!!! That is a STEAL for Kansas City. I have a couple buddies from KC and they're stoked (but when you win 2 games a year, that'll happen).
  • Jeff Thompson
What is the point of doing this? My god man, you're the biggest EA Fanboy of any blog out there. Sickening.
  • Haynesworth is a great player and a good pickup for the Redskins. Defense hasn't been the achilles heal of the Redskins in recent year though. The Redskins problem is that they do not know who they are. As an NFL team you have to decide what kind of team you will excel at and fill in those pieces. For instance NE is a patient team that invest in WR's and RB's who are better catcher's than runners (even thought they had a great year last year with YAC) and PIT is a improvisational team that invest in Wr's and TE's that can read defenses and find soft spots. WAS needs to decide what they want to be that is why they have so many issues year in and year out. I know that they have constantly changed their coaches yearly, but from the film that I watched last year the Redskins changed their offensive philosophy 3 different times which is unheard of, with just one coach. They just have to choose their direction ad stick with it and build around that philosophy. A good team to mention in doing this are the Denver Broncos with Shannahan they were always in the race because they had a simple philosophy of shoring up the run and stopping the pass.

I meant #3 overall this year (not #2)
  • Kyle
lol look at the rosenfels pic, theres an arm going through the linemens leg, lets get sum better quality next time PASTA.......
  • I just noticed that! That's funny. I guess that lineman has a performance enhancer. An extra arm to keep out the defense.
  • The collision detection in Madden is SWEET! So authentic and life-like.
  • Sacrifice
HAHA! I thought they fired Millen??
  • TitansbreH
    HAYNESWORTH DOESNT HAVE A VISOR!
How can he see who he is about to destroy if he has that on?
  • Hawks0197
    Cassel is a Chief!
  • A good deal for both teams. KC now has a young QB and a young WR on offense. If they improve their running game to what it was previous years they will be a force. Bad news for the Eagles though because now they have no shot at Tony Gonzales. The Eagles should have offered a 2nd round pick instead of being cheap. They will not be able to find a dual (receiving and blocking)TE in this draft as they are few and far between. The only TE's who can do both today are Gonzales, Daniels, and Witten.
  • knows
read your other posts, you got a lot of knowledge..but you forgot about zack miller
  • zach miller is the best tight end that nobody knows about
    im a fan
  • I know about Miller...He was on my fantasy team...Solid year fpr such an awful team..
  • ooo taking shots at the Raiders
its alright though we got 5 wins this year
    which is progress
  • ....Winslow was available (he coulda got Philly 3 games per year). HA!

    'I'M A F**KIN SOLDJA!"

Depending on the compensation that NE gets from KC, this could be either a really good deal, or a bad one (for KC). A "franchised" player usually gets a 1st rounder in return, but I don't see KC giving up the #2 overall this year. Maybe a 2nd and some later picks this year and KC's first rounder next year.

Just my guess. I'm not John Clayton from ESPN...I weight more than 115lbs and have actually played sports in my lifetime.
  • Deathbat
Good, someone else who thinks John Clayton can't be respected as an expert. You're right, maybe if he had a chin so he could strap up a football helmet, his opinion would maybe matter.
  • Hawks0197
Dawkins is a Bronco? Holy crap what have I missed. TJ better sign with the Hawks. Unless we have plans for Crabtree. It would be nice to pick up Houshmanzadeh and then draft Stafford though.
  • Sacrifice
Stafford is going #1 to Detroit (poor guy), and I see Crabtree going #2 to the Rams. Now that that idiot Andre Smith just threw away over $20Mil guaranteed because he showed up for the Combine without an agent or unprepared...I think the Rams take the WR. No other O lineman is worth the #2 pick. If the Rams take Crabtree, then I'm sure Seattle will take him because I see the Chiefs taking Aaron Curry (LB/Wake Forest) #3.

This will suck as my Cards would have to play Crabtree twice a year. BOOOOOOOOOO!!
(FYI, I grew up in Phoenix, so no bandwagon here)
  • When i was in Indy there was word going around that Andre Smith was trying to go to a specific team not in the top 5. Might be just a rumor though, because it doesn't make much sense to go to a team you want but give up guaranteed money (when you're broke).
  • Sounds like he just made himself a mid-round pick...and one with less cash. What a doofus.

The rookie cap needs to be implemented ASAP!
  • Don't worry a rookie cap will probably implemented next year or the following year when they renegotiate the labor deal. The owners are losing a lot of money on 1st round players as they make so much early on for less productivity then they either live up to their potential and hold the team hostage or become a bust and waste the teams money. Today's teams don't even want multiple 1st round picks because they cost so much and produce so little their 1st year. That is why teams willingly trade out of the 1st round or trade down just to save cash.
