Fighting in NHL 10

Jon Robinson of ESPN has posted up his “Five Things to Know” article for NHL 10 which focuses on physicality. The new fighting system is discussed at length including how they now are first-person, how the fights impact the games, how they are presented, team toughness levels, and penalties for hitting after the whistle. Check out the article in full here.

“Once you drop the gloves, the camera switches to a third-person view and you’ll see your player drop his gloves, then the camera goes to a first-person view for the fight. Then during the fight, we tried to stay authentic, so you’re not bobbing and weaving away from the guy. You grab him and you’re always connected to the guy. That’s what’s cool about hockey fights, there’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide as both guys are grabbing onto the other guy’s jersey and holding on tight.”

Team Pastapadre’s main goal in the EASHL was to beat the crap out of the opposition after the whistle. Looks like we’ll have to adjust strategy in NHL 10.

Sounds Great, im reallly looking forward to the after the whistle scrums in front of the net, and the way you can search for the player and like facewash him to fight him !

This sounds like it could be cool and it sounds like it could be overused..particularly online. We'll see. That said, they haven't addressed what I really want to know: Will there be authentic board play this year?

i hope they make an attempt to fix the other problems in the game rather than just focusing on the physical game completely. having said that… DETROIT SUCKS!

How will this work 2-player? The fighting really sucked in NHL 09, I don't know if any game got it right yet. But it was worse in 09 than in 08, that's for sure. A small blight on a great game, though.

The Be A Pro mode should be first person also. I mean come on that would be AWESOME! Its not like you need the 3rd person view like you would if you controlled the whole team. Sports games need more real to like features.

My first reaction was this is what they're concentrating on for the initial announcement??? At the same time NHL 09 was so good that its tough to know what else they could've done here. Im sure they're saving the bigger announcements until later.

What about the guys who always shoot the puck into the net after the whistle? This is really offensive to anyone who has played for real, so I'd love to see penalties and/or a fight.

That is kind of annoying, but the funny thing about 09 is the goalies actually play the shots. In earlier games they would just ignore it and let it go in. My friend and I do it to one another to rile each other up, but online I'm normally trying to avoid getting nailed post-whistle.
