NBA 2K10: Draft Combine

Over at Joystiq they’ve been able to uncover what appears to be a new quasi-game from 2K Sports that will tie in with NBA 2K10. Called NBA 2K10: Draft Combine, the game will allow users to run potential draftees through the ringer and increase their stats for transferring over to NBA 2K10. It would be a downloadable only game available on XBL and PSN. You can read their story on it here.

No word on potential pricing or tie-ins with NBA 2K10. Certainly from the description it would be difficult to justify that being its own separate entity rather than a feature or mode in the standard 2K10. However it is too early to make any judgments without full details on what it could entail.

I think they should make it free and use the strategy NCAA Football is using with Teambuilder by getting people hooked early and then causing them to buy the game when they wouldn't have before.

Lives DNA feature is all we need. 2k keeps coming up with B/S gimmicks i hopes that they will land new supporters. Its not going to happen. 2k has its fans and live has theirs. Playing some stupid mini game to raise a rookies stats a few points is both a waste of time and not realistic. I would much rather have lives DNA feature where players are constantly being updated based upon there real life counter parts and not some silly mini game.

i love 2k basketball but i think they have hit the wall with what they can do. They made a mistake by porting over the last gen engines. Everything is just all long animations now. EA will surpass them soon.

So for the past 4 years they've worked with technology they are familiar with, low on production costs etc. Bottom line is, they were able to beat the competition and increases their profit margins.

Sounds like a good feature, but one would imagine this being part of the game. I guess it will appeal to the hardcore base who plays multiple seasons. Hopefully it won't cost too much.

I am pretty underwhelmed by the news.
They should focus on gameplay instead of useless gadgets. The only good news would be that College Hoops 2k10 is under development… But it looks pretty unlikely to happen.

Not using PS3 as the development console is the reason for the wasted space. If EA/2k would have the balls to take advantage of Bluray disc space (50GB) BTW, then we could have all the content we need. All you have to do is take one look at how MLB the show owns 2k year in and year out and you will see what sports games can look like when taking advantage of blurays 50GB disc space.

As long a 2k/EA continue to cater to 360 customers, sports games will never be what we truly want them to be. There just isn't enough room on the 360 disc and sadly us PS3 owners get stuck with the aftermath of that decision.
