Rumor: EA Interested in THQ

According to Minyanville several companies are examining a possible takeover of THQ which has been struggling in recent years.  Chief among those companies is Electronic Arts with other possibilities mentioned being Time Warner and News Corp.  The big interest for EA would be the two significant licenses for the UFC and WWE that THQ holds. UFC 2009 Undisputed has almost single-handedly kept THQ afloat with its impressive sales this year and the WWE license has a lot of potential in the right hands. The THQ stock has been rising in anticipation of a takeover happening in the near future.

EA Sports MMA has been doing a decent job of signing fighters not affiliated with UFC however that game remains a tough sell competing directly against it.  The UFC license would obviously be an attractive acquisition and would eliminate any current competition in the genre. While this remains just a rumor at the moment it makes a lot of sense for EA to be interested given that they were unable to expand their portfolio with Take Two last year.

If EA sports buys THQ and aquires the WWE license, we will finally witness perhaps the best wrestling game ever made. That is if the deal is ever made.

Of course Mr Dana white would be OK with that. EA would absorb the contract THQ has with UFC. In fact Dana White would probably be overjoyed that the #1 publisher of videogames in the world is at the helm. Its about business and making money and not fanboyism. Dana white doesn't want EA competing with their own game.

THQ doesn't make a baseball game so I don't understand your though process. 2k would have to relinquish the rights to MLB for that to happen and that contract hasn't expired yet and EA failed last year to buy out 2k, so the answer to your question is NO. This doesnt mean a baseball game is on the horizon.

Typical EA BS. They can't win with a game so they buy them out. EA needs to get some talent on development side rather than waste money taking over companies and they wrecking the license. Say goodbye to any good MMA game once EA has the rights.

A business wants to make money, but does that mean they need to get rid of competition. There is an old saying, "competition is always good for business". If they keep this up they will eventually be looked at by governments all over the world. It will eventually bite them in the a**. They must not have very smart buisness savy, because they are shooting themselves in the foot with every purchase. I don't even blame EA for the NFL deal, thats the NFL's fault, but EA hasn't kept up their end of the bargin and has made one bad football game right after the other. But you probably keep buying it hoping it gets better, but it won't because they are cheap and don't care about consumers. Heck I wouldn't doubt that they have disgruntled employees who sabotage their games before they go out the door just to get even.

Competition benefits the consumer not the business. If you own a business you don't want competition. Competition cuts into your profit margin. Use our head and stop thinking like a fanboy. Its in EA's best interest to absorb as many small publishers as possible to increase their portfolio for their investors. EA is a publicly traded company you know. Why don't you buy some stock and make some money yourself.

No competition is good for buisness. Please go back to school and sign up for buisness classes, you moron! People will eventually get tired of the same things and stop the purchasing, you stupid schmuck!

Buisness ethics 101. Keep a healthy competition for the consumer and they will buy into your product just as much as before. It's an even balance and if disturbed it can lead to a monopoly, and that is illegal.

They named off three companies and your crying about EA, odd. This happens in business, it's no fault of EA or any of the other two companies named the THQ is financially doing poorly.

Are they hurting that much, or is it EA is waving their pocket book in front of them. Hmmmm, you know they did this to Take Two and look what happened. Now Take Two is magically doing fine.

My point is wether you feel it's EA trying to take over the world it's obvious two other companies had the same idea in mined people that doesn't seem to bother anyone. I'd rather see them taken over by the company that is going to further develop the product rather than not put anything into it.

I don't now that Take Two is \”magically doing fine\” because I don't have an inside scoop as to where that company is financially today.

No this isn't a ethical business practice that EA takes. You see they buy their competition and dispose of their talent. They put to few people on every project which is why they are always rushed out to the consumer. If EA keeps buying all their competition, and Activision does the same, then we will have a monopoly. I wouldn't mind this if there were more companies, but there are very few these days, and the business is still doing well. It is simple greed, and the fact that they have products that are almost done. They would love to just put out those products and then for next year put a low amount of people on the projects just to save money. I feel sorry for EA employees, for they are nothing to that company and are treated as if they are cattle. So if you want BIG BUSINESS mediocrity, please enjoy this take over, it will bring us only the same for every game we buy.

dana white hates EA because he claims they blew him off when he wanted them to make a MMA game but then they came back with HAT in hand a year or so later and he hasn't forgiven them. He's said they're his sworn enemy. It'll be interesting to see what happens if EA does take them over.
