As announced today the PS3 will be receiving Netflix streaming in November. This has been a really nice feature for watching movies and TV shows on the PC or the Xbox 360 for some time now. The biggest difference though is the PS3 will require the use of a “instant streaming Blu-ray disc” while the 360 has the program is fully integrated into XBL. There will be no extra charge for PS3 users, all that is required is a high enough subscription plan with Netflix. For those planning to use the feature sign up to reserve one of the required discs here.

I’ve found the streaming options from Netflix to be somewhat limited with the majority being of little interest to me. The movies tend be more of the independent nature or are simply older ones. The exception comes with those that are featured on Starz (which Netflix has an agreement with) but since I have that channel and can pull them up OnDemand that isn’t a benefit to me. Probably the best assets are with the TV shows, not only because the selection is better and more up-to-date but it saves you from having to go through multiple discs if you were to get them from Netflix in the traditional manner.

I am happy that this is finally going to happen. After getting rid of my 360 a few months ago, I was only able to view the streaming movies on my PC. I am excited to see how well this is going to work.

I probably use my Xbox as much as a Netflix device as I do for gaming – I actually really enjoy the back catalog of movies, as it's a great place to find all those movies I missed out on at the time for one reason or another – plus as Pasta said the TV seasons are a great way to plow thru a season in quick fashion

I read somewhere Netflix's stock price has nearly doubled over the past year – in no small part due to the influx of Xbox users who've signed up (i want to say over 1M?) This PS3 news can only help

This is great news to me. I watch a lot of movies from my PC. So, having the ability to watch movies on my PS3 is incredible.
