With the release of the likely-to-be blockbuster disaster movie 2012 only a week away comes news that a television show is in the works that would follow humanity in the aftermath. Director Roland Emmerich mentioned the idea while talking with Entertainment Weekly.
“The plan is that it is 2013 and it’s about what happens after the disaster,” Emmerich told EW while walking the red carpet for the 2012 premiere Tuesday. “It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating. (2012 writer/producer) Harald Kloser and I came up with the idea and we have the luxury of having a producer on the film who is a big TV producer, Mark Gordon. We said to Mark, ‘Why don’t you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?’
I actually think the concept would be interesting and since the show wouldn’t have to focus on the disasters as they happened the effects budget would be manageable for TV. While the potential of the show would have little to do with how good the movie turns out to be I’d expect that the networks may look at that when deciding on whether to pick it up.

Call me a pessimist for the end of the movie, but doesn’t this confirm that the world DOESN’T end in the movie?? Maybe some of you just assumed Cusack and others would live, but I thought there was a shot, that the world was a goner… Guess not.

Not necessarily. The dinosaurs didn't die out overnight. There could be pockets of survivors in an "end of the world" scenario.

I agree with you KcKing2 it kind of gives away part of the ending. Now we know 2012 isn't the end of the world…..it's 2013 when John Cusack's double becomes el presidente of the earth. lol

Not necessarily. It's implied that the modern world – electricity, ground beneath our feet those things – will be completely destroyed. I actually think this could work.
