FlashForward Shuts Down Production

In the past few weeks concern has been raised over the status of FlashForward. Ratings have dropped to levels that brought the future of the series into question. Having ordered a full season it seemed that ABC was at least committed to letting the story play out. That confidence was intended to make viewers feel more comfortable investing in a show long-term after a few years where new series were yanked out from under them before even providing any closure. However viewers have been losing interest in the show based on the slow pace, questionable acting, lack of story progression, and lack of character development amongst some of the more common complaints.

Ausiello is reporting that production on FlashForward has been temporarily shut down. That does not mean the show has been canceled but is never a good sign. Creatively the writers may be looking for a way to address viewer complaints and boost ratings in the process. Already it has been stated that a revelation which was going to be held for late in the season has been moved up to a January episode. Promises have been made that huge amounts of info will be coming in the upcoming mid-season finale on December 3rd and in the episodes to follow.

The last episode was particularly bad focusing on a character that no one cared about and his search to find the woman he saw in his flash. Though to be fair I’m not sure there are any characters that viewers care much about. The ratings hit a series low in both the coveted 18-49 demo with a 2.4 and in total viewers drawing eight million. I still think FlashForward will finish out its first season, they don’t have anything to replace it with, but whether it gets renewed will depend on a ratings turnaround. With a show like this doing so would be unprecedented.

They have way too many storylines they're trying to build in the frame of the show that it's killing the whole thing. I only care about Benford's flashforward and Noh's storyline because they're actually working on trying to figure out what happened in regard to the blackout. They need to really put the focus back on those two guys.

Yay another show being shut down by ABC. I've stopped watching their show since they shut off Life on Mars, now that was a great show.

The acting was not questionable, It was god awful bad. I only watched the 1st episode. But from what I saw in that 30mins (I did not watch the full hour to bad) The acting sucks, and I can't watch anything like that.

Well that just makes me sad. Personally I like the show and have only missed watching two episodes on TV that I later watched on Hulu.

The show's pace is so slow. It had the intensity of 24 in the beginning, but now it's just dragging. By now we ought to be seeing some bad guys, especially with an attack of this magnitude… (like 24) The paper trail is weak, come on, these people used high tech devices to knock the entire planet unconscious and there's no signifigant paper trail of the terrorist attack after 9 episodes (weeks in time). The NSA, FBI, military would be mobilized searching every corner of the globe to find these guys with rash intensity. Jack Bauer would have been all over that in 24. Come to think of it, 24 could do a world wide blackout better than this.

I thought this thing had potential and was truly excited when I saw the initial previews. But as the season has progressed, I have found myself turned off by the lethargic story speed and terrible character development.

They're trying to have too many stories going on at one time without even completing one of them. My fiancee and I watched the last 3 episodes on DVR over the weekend and the most recent one we both commented to each other on the lack of progress. She even pointed out that they seemed to be trying to emulate LOST with this last story and how they revealed Bryce and his story/vision. Sorry, FF but you can't even hold a candle to LOST.

I really enjoy watching the show on Hulu, so I'll be very disappointed if it gets canceled. Ironically, character development and acting have been pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The first episodes were a little rough, but the problems have been ironed out a bit since then. I guess I need to go back to watching the show on TV to help the ratings.

I also like this show as well. It is a little slow with the storyline but I do understand that they only have 5 months left to find out what is going on. They are not going to give up most of the show in the first season.
