One of the most intriguing concepts for 2010 comes with Buried. Starring Ryan Reynolds the movie is essentially a one-man act. He plays a US contractor working in Iraq that gets attacked and wakes up to find himself buried alive in a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it becomes a race against time to make his escape.

Talking about the project a while back Reynolds revealed that he is the only person in the film. I’m not sure if that will end up being completely true given the vague description about the plot that has been given. Regardless he will be the primary focus and will have most if not all of the dialogue.

The script has gotten rave reviews from those who have read it, and if Reynolds pulls it off he could be in contention for an Academy Award. Tom Hanks was nominated for Cast Away and he was isolated only for about half the movie in a far less intense situation. Being stuck alone buried in the middle of the desert is certainly a terrifying scenario. The poster may be hinting that the movie is in real-time which would enhance that feeling even more.

While I’m looking forward to it given the buzz that is building it will still be a difficult movie to watch. It is basically a worst nightmare scenario for me and it’s uncomfortable even to imagine. For many people even just watching underwater scenes is rough but this will take that feeling to an extreme. Buried is scheduled to release sometime in 2010 but no specific date has been set.
