New on DVD: Week of January 11

2010 continues to bring us less than stellar movie releases. This week is worse than the previous week. If you’re a fan of musicals, Fame hits stores this week. The film received a 90% ‘fresh rating’ on Rottentomatoes.com I did manage to see Tyler Perry’s I can do Bad All By Myself. It’ your typical Tyler Perry movie and doesn’t stray away from his usual formula, so if you’re a fan of his movies you’ll enjoy this one.     Also, new on BluRay this week is Riding Giants, one of the best big wave surfing movies you will ever see. It documents the history of riding the big waves in Hawaii and other places, focusing on Greg Noll and Laird Hamilton, among others.

    It originally came out in 2004. Very well done. Picture quality is just average though due to a large amount of older video and pictures, but the new stuff with Laird off of Maui looks great. Good extras too.
