Jimmy Kimmel Crushes Jay Leno

For some reason Jimmy Kimmel was booked onto The Jay Leno Show to take part in the “10 at 10″ segment last night. This was an odd decision for two reasons. The first is that he works for a competing network in late night (ABC). The second is that just earlier this week on his show Kimmel took shots at Leno by doing an impression of him. Kimmel is obviously in the corner of Conan O’Brien so whether NBC thought this would create buzz or if Leno is just that naive either way it was a bizarre decision made to go forward with it.

After Leno tried to paint himself as a victim with some jokes earlier in the show Kimmel was brought on to do what seemed like a standard segment. But it wasn’t long before he started pounding him in nearly every answer he gave. It made for an incredibly awkward but awesome few minutes of television.

Yeah I felt the same way watching, awkward and painful in a way but had to so I could give some respect to Kimmel on this.

Wow, that is awesome. How the heck did anyone think that would work out well?

Jimmy shows how good you have to be to do this stuff. The wit he uses is pretty impressive, especially when Jay asks him, "Have you ever ordered anything off of TV." His wit turns it around. Jay does throw up some softballs, but Jimmy is impressive here.

Ironically this episode of The Jay Leno Show got its worst ratings ever on a Thursday. He'll keep a good chunk of his current base of fans (older crowd who don't like change) but he's really taking a hit from the mainstream.

Jimmy has balls of steel. Let's not forget, Jay Leno is also a good guy (look into his philanthropic work or what he recently did in Detroit), but here he is getting ROASTED by Kimmel – and deservedly so.

Had Jay made a stand on principle and told NBC to leave him in his current timeslot, offered to go on after Conan, or walk he could have saved face and looked respectable.

The way it all has played out really makes him look bad and I doubt he ever sees ratings like he once had.

On one hand i feel a little bad for Jay Leno. But Conan O’brien has ALWAYS been my boy. Even as a kid i had better shit to watch than the Tonight’s show at that timeslot, and when it boiled down to it. Conan’s stuff was always so funny and dynamically edgy. For years ever since in 04 i heard Conan was replacing Leno, i wondered if he would fade off into obscurity. I was happy for him when he got his own show before the Tonight’s show, but at the rate of his plummet, it’s kinda sad to see a legend fall.

But it’s inexcusable for him to come out and jerk Conan around the way he has and completelymade himself look like a selfish jackass. You have your show and it sucks Jay. As far as the shakeup, i was still pretty pleased with Conan and Fallon has been…well i dont watch that show, i was just thrilled for Conan to be the main guy but NBC has apparently managed to fuck them both all the way around.

Could they have left things the way they were and things would’ve been fine? Maybe. Even then, some things dont last forever. Jay got what he deserved in this video. Kimmel is the new king of Late Night if you ask me.
