The sixth and final season of Lost kicked off last night with a two hour premiere. Rather than posting some of my thoughts in the article I’ll add them in the comments to avoid spoiling (don’t read them unless you’ve seen the show)! Make sure to leave your reaction and any theories in the comments as well for discussion. You are also welcome to take part in the discussion thread in the forums.

To me it looks like Sayid has been taken over by Jacob. But that almost seems too easy to put together and is probably intentional misdirection.

Whatever happened, happened? That's how it appears. Plane crashes and Locke can walk. Plane lands at LAX, and maybe Jack will fix Locke and he'll walk again? Charlie dies on the island and appears headed towards death again. Kate and Claire together which could mean she'll be there for Aaron's birth. Lots of links like that throughout.

What I didn't quite get was Desmond being on the plane (before seemingly disappearing) and Shannon not being on the plane?

So is the alternate time line showing what would have happened if the plane never crashed on its own? Or will they merge at some point…

I don't think so because there are lots of subtle differences that are extremely important.

This is not what would have happened if the plane hadn't crashed because Hurley had bad luck before ever getting on the plane. This would have stayed the same. The fact that this changed means that his entire life is different. He never went to the asylum and learned of the numbers. Which happened before winning the lottery and getting on the plane.

Everything leading up to the crash would have been the same. Differences would have only occurred past the point in which the crash happened (in the original timeline). The fact that many things were different before the turbulence on the plane indicates that the course of the future was altered.

I’m not sure how this alternate world/timeline will work, but I hope it is somehow connected to the island in some way. We’ve been following the people on the island for so long, even another version of them that hasn’t developed lacks to connection to the audience.

It looks like this season will be the conclusion of the epic struggle between Smokey and Jacob. When I saw Sayid get up, I instantly thought of the ‘Last Supper’ poster. Jacob now inhabits Sayid’s body which is why in the poster Sayid is Judas, and Smokey is Jesus. And Smokey may not be that bad though he has a mean streak. All he wants is to get back home.

Desmond was on the plane because he has always been the Constant (whatever that may mean I am not too sure). But I'm glad the started providing some answers, about time!

How did he win the lottery then without the numbers? I think that, maybe Hurley's luck had something to do with the plane going down. So since he didn't have bad luck the plane didn't crash.. Idk just throwing stuff out there..

I would of thought Jack should of died and become Jacob. That way you could have a Jack(Jacob)/Locke(Smoke) showdown. Why a Sayid/Locke battle?

Good point. But if the island was underwater/didn't have the magnetic properties would it have mattered anyway?
