New MLB 10: The Show Gameplay Videos

While there have been gameplay videos out for MLB 10: The Show since CES in early January those were all recorded off screen. Today the first directly produced look at gameplay has been released by two different outlets. The first clip runs just over a minute and features the Tigers @ Twins primarily focusing on Joe Mauer’s at bat and the second is of a homerun review. The third has the same two teams but is over five minutes long. Continue on to check out the videos and leave your thoughts in the comments!

stunning how good this game looks

  • http://twitter.com/deepen03 deepen03

yea, it looks like its on TV. just incredible.

  • ahr19

The sounds even seem better this year. More accented and crisper. And you all are right. This sure does look pretty. Wow. All that is left is some serious online testing.

  • meh

    commentary sucks balls.

“hit hard towards second” the ball lands deep in right field….

sounds so bland an boring too

  • The Show = Gold

Bob, I'm going to say this before you even post. SHUT THE HELL UP. You cannot deny that this looks incredible. Don't even get on here with your crappy comments.

    demo please :)

  • PLite14

I posted this in the comments section in another Show-related headline:
    Bob either:

    1) lacks common sense
    2) works for 2K and is trying to brain-wash us
    3) or is saying stupid things just to get a rise out of us

So being a big fan of The Show, let me list the short list of things you could really find wrong with this game in its current form (besides maybe a very uncommon bug or glitch here and there, of which there are very FEW):

    1) player models – shoulders look really big, short arms, etc
    2) old-fashioned commentary – yes it's basically the same as years past, but the devs spend their time on more important things like gameplay and graphics, maybe next year they will include something innovative
    3) the way the ball leaves the pitchers hands kind of looks funny (at least in the vids we've seen so far), sometimes it kind of 'jumps'
    4) some stadiums aren't completely up-to-date with LED video boards, etc. (understandable since they don't always have time during every dev cycle to get to everything)

So there Bob, you can shut up now because there is not one more thing you can harp on with The Show. Also, saying anything bad about the graphics simply means you are blind.

  • nurfin9

Game looks simply amazing this year! And the real time presentation will really helps take the game up a level in terms of looking real to life. The commentary sounds okay but everything else seems to be making this into the best sports game of the year.

  • http://twitter.com/KMillsZ19o Ketewa Edwards

I agree the commentary still sounds a little dry but the presentation this year is down right amazing sounds so realistic and looks abosolutley stunning I can't wait I already got my copy pre-ordered March 2, 2010 it's going down!!!! I'm so glad I got both a 360 and PS3 I have an option unlike the ppl who only own the 360 boy o boy do I feel sorry for you guys Lmfao!!!!

  • RonJustice

game is jaw dropping visually. can't wait to play this…

but yeah, it's time to update the commentary…

  • MZ360

Commentary is so overrated in sports video games. Do you wanna feel like your watching the game or playing the game ? Because players on the field don't hear commentary in their ear while they're playing.

It's such a petty gripe to have with a game of this caliber.

  • SENZ

Ummmm…it was hit hard to second…the second basemen missed it. Commentary was correct.

    Try again troll.

  • MZ360

Basically, what I'm sayin' to you is, mute the commentary if you don't like it. That's what I, and a lot of other people do.

  • http://twitter.com/KMillsZ19o Ketewa Edwards

I totally agree with what you said makes a lot of sense the commentary isn't that important & doesn't take away from the game period cause over all the gameplay alone is what counts and that's what The Show is focused on and they do a damn good job in that department sure ppl will argue that MLB 2K has better commentary but at the end of the day which company has produced the best and closley realistic baseball game in the past few years certainly not 2K Lmfao!!!! I can't wait!!!!!

  • skihawks

The home run replay was awesome….I thought the Twinkies were getting new uniforms this year? Either way, I like the current uniforms.

  • ames

game looks great. can not wait for the demo and then release!

  • Bob

    PLite14 you forgot to mention

    1)non-playable online lag
2)pitchers who fall to field a ball that lands directly behind them
3)infield homeruns off of bunts *a
4)players who do a forwards moonwalk covering bases *b
5)lack of any player detection-players run right through each other
6)players running right through outfield wall *c
7)poor implementation of hitting and throwing mechanics
8)catchers tagging out players that are on base *d
9)more than 1 player at the plate *e
10)defensive players with superspeed glides *f

These are just some of the many problems facing The Show that they need to fix. That's why I suggest a 2-3 year development period where they make a solid game engine that is somewhat comparable to the MLB 2K series.

As always I have video support to back up my claims

When you don't put any pressure on the game developers then they will put out the same bland stuff year in and year out. That's the biggest difference between The Show's team and MLB 2K's team in that the latter actually listens to it's fans. Commentary is a big part of sports gaming and the MLB 2K team understands that and that's why it's heads and shoulders above any other sports game bar none.

  • James

Bob I truly feel like you have a mental disability or something… it's just sad reading your posts.

  • PLite14

1 – online playability was overhauled this year
2,3,4,6,8,9,10 (4 and 10 are the same thing by the way, nice try) – I have been playing MLB 09 since March and have yet to see any single one of those. But since you have proof, they do exist (as I said before, there are bugs just like any other game, they are VERY uncommon)
5 – Why does a baseball game (baseball is a non-contact sport) need collision detection between bodies? As the devs have said, they continue to add thousands of animations every year to prevent clipping between players.
7 – What does this even mean? There is nothing wrong with the hitting, and they redid the the way throwing works this year.

You said “those are some of the many problems facing The Show”. OK, well since you have so much time to spend here and attempt to bash the game, please list some more.

And while you are at it, please list the bugs of MLB 2K. That should keep you busy for a while.

  • Bighousefan

the release of the ball after being pitched looks kinda weird. It looked a lot smoother last year.

  • Bighousefan

The release of the ball from the picther's hand to the catcher's mitt looks kinda weird. It looked a lot smoother last year.

  • MZ360

Yea.. Right.. Hey, Bob.. LOL, what you say is really funny, man. It's so ironic because 2K puts out the same bland stuff year in and year out and SCEA is the team that actually listens to it's fans.

You gotta be kiddin'. There's no way you actually believe what you're sayin'.. ?

  • MZ360

Bob, if I made a list like that for MLB 2K9, it'd be 5 times longer than that list you gave for The Show. Get the fuck outta here, man..

  • MZ360

We got it the first time.

  • PLite14

Yes I definitely agree with that. Hopefully as SCEA continues to update animations that are left over from the PS2 days, it won't look like that anymore.

  • dplainview

it does look great. the only problem being both mlb and 2k games have always had terrible game play. i don't care what it looks like if the game just sucks. all the “amazing new animations” just make the game feel like the computer is doing 90% of the work for you. and the hitting in both games is a joke. its going to be the biggest joke ever when after all this time ea comes back and has the best game on the market. all they would have to do is take mvp 05 update the rosters and the graphics. plain and simple, sony is to focused on the graphics to make a good all around game and 2k has had there heads up there asses since the next gens came out. at least it seems like 2k is actually trying now.

  • http://twitter.com/DaveDQ David D.

Some of those glitch videos Bob posted are hilarious.

  • SDOT

Bob Works for Ronnie. Enough said

  • Steve

SCEA has done a great job on improving gameplay and presentation the last two years, but it blows my mind how many uniform mistakes there are in the game.

Messing up the Twins new uniforms is inexcusable. The front wordmark was changed on all of their jerseys. I hope they at least got the road and throwback alternates correct.

I hope they take the uniforms more seriously in the future, because I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of negativity generated from missing blatant changes like this. The Twins unis were unveiled in NOVEMBER!

I also hear that they screwed up the new Mets cream-colored home alternate jersey.

  • Lafayette Azevedo

This game looks amazing but the commentary is so bad and boring, just what were they thinking. MLB10 The Show is hands down the best baseball game out there (I don't even own a PS3) but they need to get that commentary right. They shouldn't stop talking, always have something to say. Don't these guys watch sports on television, 50% is about the on field play and 50% is about the players, the weather, the upcoming games, prior games, hwo the season is going just like… dare I say it… MLB2K10… but I can't deny, this game is pretty and you know it plays well.

  • Les_is_More

Looks amazing i cant wait. Hey bob when you pick up your copy of the show after you trade in 2k hit me up i would love to play you.

  • nurfin9

From the videos I watched the new home uni's are right. The font style on the front matches with what was unveiled. Not sure about the alternate throwbacks or the road uni's but at least the main home jerseys are correct.

Bob is just trying to sell MLB 2K to us. Ever notice how he ALWAYS mentions MLB 2K even when he is talking about The Show?

  • JB

bob since your such a proof guy, can you please find me one website that rates 2k higher than the show? And for every site you do go to, make sure you count how many times you see the shows higher than 2k's.

    thanks.

  • Dra5tic35

The game look amazing, my only comment about the game is that they sure fix all pitcher and batter stance. Sometime pitchers and batter have generic stance and i hate when there a roster updated and i have to change there stance so it does not look generic.

  • nurfin9

I hate that as well. They do a decent job with the big names who have their own personal batting stances but all the new guys who come up during the season or the no names to begin with always have the same generic stances, and I know it's not a huge deal but it drives me crazy. They have like 20 generic stances so just have something that assigns them randomly to people who don't have their own personal stance.

  • sandul

Those were funny glitches, but I've played this game just about every day, and the “glitch” where there is no player collision is being fixed this year. those other glitches… i've never seen those before, and I've played a lot of MLB 09. Maybe i play too much “the show” vs season play?

  • carolinaeasy

    Bob,

I understand that MLB 2K10 might have better commentary than The Show. But making wide-sweeping comments like “That's why it's heads and shoulders above any other sports game bar none” make you appear to be an idiot. I think I could be safe in saying that Madden 10, NHL 10, and Fifa 10 are all better games than MLB 2K10. I think others would agree with me on this point. Second of all, I do not know of anyone with a PS3 who will actually buy 2K10 over The Show. I understand your enthusiasm for 2K10, but you are seriously starting to sound like Baghdad Bob.

  • thekush

this game is going to be absolute crack

  • edoneHB

so you are telling me wrists the bend awkwardly in the show is realistic? No and when will everyone get sick of playing the same game every year. The Show is boring, the only thing good about the game was RTTS and thats played out. Im gonna try 2K10 this year, I wish EA could still make baseball!

    p.s WHO SWINGS LIKE THAT!
