MLB 2K10 vs 2K9 Comparison Trailer

2K Sports has released a trailer that attempts to show off the differences between MLB 2K10 and MLB 2K9. Included are graphical improvements, fixed stadium advertising, some of the common glitches in 2K9, new collision detection, the simplified pitching, and the new batting camera angle. While it does a good job of displaying these things in just a single minute the issues in 2K9 were not realized in the pre-release videos, communicated in the previews, or even spotted much in the demo. So it may not be wise to invest too heavily in a trailer such as this.

Remember the demo arrives in the early morning hours at about 5ET/2PT which is what everyone is now waiting on to try and assess the state of MLB 2K10. Continue on to watch the video and leave your thoughts in the comments!

props for the “we sucked and we knew it” trailer. really looking forward to reviews.

  • http://twitter.com/AhoyItsThom Thom Berth

Congratulations 2k, you fixed errors that should of never been errors in the first place.

  • Kris

lol the 2k9 stuff is hilarious. but sorry, showing me one time that a bat contacts the ball does not convince me the ball wont just go through the bat on occasion. its not like that happened every time.

  • OOO___OOO

pasta nailed it when he said mlb 2k9 was the worst sports game last year and maybe this generation. even 2k is admitting how terrible it was by creating a trailer meant as a way to say hey look at least 2k10 will be better than this!

  • Lake Allen

Honestly all that trailer does is remind me how much they ripped me off with 2K9. Doesn't make me want 2K10.

  • geolink2349

I hate that “2K SPORTS” thing in the beginning

    Evan's voice is annoying

  • fsucory

I know you guys wanna throw blame at 2k..I get it, but Visual Concepts took the game over with less than 9 months to work on it after Kush and those boneheads f'ed up the whole series. VC is going to slowly turn it around and make it into a good or even great franchise. I'm not trying to compare to The Show because obviously the Show is great! 2k will hopefully start to challenge The Show and then we as consumers will prosper.

  • edude

Wow – kind of surprised at how they're poking fun at their '09-selves. Wonder if the guys who worked on it are still there?

Feels like they're throwing everything they've got into this one, which you gotta respect.
But even if they get most of it right this year, they've got some serious catching up to do when it comes to the details.

  • fsucory

They are still there, but VC took the game over on short notice so much of the crappiness is the fault of Kush Interactive who created MLB 2k8 and 2k9. Visual Concepts has had a full dev cycle now to fix all the BS of 2k9. Hopefully it keeps coming

  • ainge

I dont buy those excuses. Theres something new EVERY year for them to explain off why the game has been poor. NHL 2K9 used the same “short cycle” excuse and NHL 2K10 was mediocre (AT BEST). I don't think miracles are going to happen here. There's nothing to base any belief such as that on.

  • R240

“Oh…Hi guys. 2K Sports here. Remember how we stole your money with MLB 2K9? You don't? Watch this trailer. Now you remember huh? So want to pony up the cash for MLB 2K10 now? We promise it won't be as bad.” (Evil wink)

  • Element

Is this supposed to impress me? 2K just doesn't get it.

    Two more comparisons for ya:

Humongous numbers on jerseys in 2K10, regular sized numbers in 2K9
No check swings in 2K10 (until patch), check swing in 2K9

  • edude

I kinda like this “we're coming in to save the franchise” thing going on.
Which makes me even more interested in playing the demo tomorrow.
Even though I'm going w/ The Show – it'd be beneficial for everyone if they were somewhat competitive.

I also thought 2K8 got off too easy by the critics. That game was craptastic as well!

  • fsucory

2k7 was the best MLB2k game this gen. By no means is this game going to be amazing, I hope it gives a solid baseball experience for us xbox users. VC has done a great job with NBA2k series, I don't see why they can't here. It looks pretty good. I probably will wait till reviews to come out though.

  • Henrie

You mean the best 2K Sports baseball game this gen. No one could argue it outdoes what The Show has put out the last two years.

  • fsucory

I said “best MLB2k game” so yes I know, The Show has been 1000x better this gen. I played it on ps2 and it was awesome then I think it was 08. I can only imagine how good it is now, I don't own a ps3.

  • ZZP

Looks better but doesn't do much to convince me that 2K10 is worth buying. I need more full gameplay videos and time with the demo.

  • Bosox

Is it just me or does the pitch speed look out of wack in these videos? In this one the Verlander “fastball” at 97mph (43 seconds in) has WAY too much drop. It looks more like a 72mph changeup. I hope I'm missing something or that gets corrected because that might drive me crazy. Other than that things looked better. I didn't play last year's so this video didn't show me much aside from the specified improvements.

  • Henrie

Gotcha. Misread the first time, but I agree. 2K7 was their best effort so far. Then they got off-track trying out gimmicks and let the core gameplay slip with way too many glitches.

  • Henrie

This is one of the problems with the new camera angle. Saw it in the gameplay video thats out, takes forever for the ball to reach the plate. 2K is trying to make it really easy to hit (they even said you wont feel like you need to use check swing and thats why they took it out)

  • Lafayette

    2K10 looks so much better.

  • ronnyi

as a BIG fan of mlb the show. they realli did improve alot you can deff tell they are trying. im deff going to give the demo a crack and go from there.. there might be a possability that i get 2k10

  • monessenite

It's obvious that 2K10 is gonna be better….new year, you shouldn't go backwards. Graphically, it looks 100 times better. It got all the shading and texture.

  • sommer

yea 2k10 is better, obviously they're gonna show it that way and i really doubt anyway that it could be worse. still though this is far from enough to make me feel good about buying this game. saw a lot of problems just in that one inning video. so its going to take a lot more to change my mind.

  • Enrique

Sorry 2K but you put me in a position where I can't even trust a trailer such as this that you put out. You showed off 2K9 like it was great also. We'll see when the demo gets here and reviews if its really a decent game.

  • Philly

The only thing I'm getting ready to do is get out some money and buy a PS3 and the show. I cant trust this trailer, especially when it looks like they slowed the ball down, still have prison-like baggy uniforms on with 10 XL numbers/names, and other than a better color palette, and cleaned up screen, probably only a bit better than 2K9. Just played the full game of MLB 10 The Show in my local Best Buy today (Dead serious); it will not be a disappointment.

  • C22-D

and next year 2K will release a comparison vid showing how 2k10 sucked and how 2k11 will be so much better!

  • gobengals

All i hope is that super sim will work, franchise will not freeze in the middle of a season, we wont get a release day patch again, no ridiculous game freezes, I just want to play the game have fun with it like its meant to be played. Dont want to throw 65 down the drain I really hope they get it right on march 2nd 2010

  • gobengals

2k7 was the best? how could a game with a bug that allows the franchise to freeze every single time you try to advance in year 3 be the best sports game this gen?

  • fsucory

I personally never had that problem so idk what you're talking about. Also, I said 2k7 was the best MLB2k sports game. as in 2k sports best MLB effort. The Show has been much much better. I'd appreciate it if I wasn't misquoted.

  • PLite14

It's very encouraging that they've owned up to their past faults. 2K baseball could take a giant leap forward this year.

  • James

So who's to really say those issues have been fixed… they could have made 70% of that trailer with 2k9 highlights if they wanted to (the other 30% is new animations)…

  • pbz06

It seems like it would be playable but I can't get past the annoying laser trail, the orange hoola hoop circle junk when you pitch, and the gimmicky controls.

  • Anthony

I really hope outfielders collide if you don't call off… Stadiums look great, perspective looks great as far as players vs field. I'm glad you have to choose pitch via button first instead of straight into the motion… it was damn near impossible to throw a good slider or curveball sometimes. Can't wait to play the demo later today so I can get a good feel for how it's going to be this year… This is a big year for 2k in my eyes, I'll decide if I want to buy a PS3 later on this year for the Show next year.

  • Philly sucks

    haha loser

  • Rudy

That didn't really make 2K10 look good. It just made 2K9 embarrassing. Not a selling video for sure.

  • sandul

Hey Bob, this video is god given PROOF from 2k themselves that they AGREE with US the mlb: the show fans, that 2k9 SUCKED BALLS. and it does appear that they've rectified a lot of the very important glitches that 2k9 had, and made it look visually appealing. if there was any time someone might want to give this game a chance and RENT it, they might find they actually like the 2k series a little.

That being said, MLB: the show series has already fixed most issues like this, there is 1 thing that still erks me about the show but can't really be helped is when a player dives towards the ball, the ball “bounces” into their glove in order for the animation to go smoothly. When it happens quickly you don't notice it and it feels like a sweet play, but when it's a close up in slow mo, it's very apparent sometimes. Again, not really a big deal because it helps the animation work, but i figure i'd rather them move the arm more to get in front of the ball.

there bob, you happy? ONE thing i don't like about my MLB 09: the show, but above was proof of SEVERAL things, like swinging a fucking bat THROUGH a ball! WTF is that shit!?!?

  • rob

    Kush and 2k7 was awesome.

  • AzureEffect

I didnt have 2K9 but from this video…Damn it had some issues…LOL. Looks like they addressed them well though.

    • http://twitter.com/deepen03 deepen03

still looks like crap to me. yea an improvement, but from last year’s garbage, an improvement is like a first step. at this rate, they won’t catch up to the Show til 2k12.

  • u suck

A baseball game where they don't catch pop ups .. LOL

  • Bob

I have proof of The Show having balls traveling right through bats, and players but who wants to talk about those shortcomings?

If The Show was so perfect why does things like this happen?

  • Bob's wee wee

If only people could actually read. Obviously gobengals is a retard and can't comprehend.

  • gobengals is a retard

    You're an idiot

  • http://twitter.com/deepen03 deepen03

thank you for posting this pasta, you just saved me 60 bucks.. :)

  • sandul

i really think bob is just making new accounts, and makes names of people that like the show, then say they suck as part of his name

    fucking pathetic.

  • sykane

2K8 and 2K9 would like to have a word with you.
