Gus Johnson Made Official for Madden 11

Audio presentation was identified as one of the most disappointing areas of Madden 10 and EA Sports has addressed that for Madden 11 with the replacement of play-by-play announcer Tom Hammond with Gus Johnson. Johnson will now team up doing PBP with Cris Collinsworth as the color man. Though we’ve known about his addition to the game for a month the excitement about the change really hasn’t died down. His inclusion is being received extremely well having garnered 34% of the vote in the poll from a few weeks ago which examined which addition to the game was the favorite.

In conjunction with the announcement EA Sports has also released a new video in the developer series discussing the audio presentation for Madden 11. Along with the discussion is some footage of the game displaying different elements of the presentation such as pre-game and sideline scenes.     Yeah man I agree with you 100% on this announcement. If one of the the biggest thing to Madden fans, is a new fucking announcer, then we are fucked. FRanchise needed the most work and we still haven't heard anything yet, hopefully we will soon. none of this other stuff is that big

    Here is another vid straight from Gametrailers. This is something a bit unique. They have Gus Johnson, probably for fun (but maybe for actual use in the game) calling some “pre-alpha” action between the 49ers and Seahawks with some journalists. It show's off Gus's emotional calling. The journalists are ok, but good thing we know that Collinsworth will be in the final:

    i swear after i saw that video i thought 2 myself tht im gonna buy this game on the first day. and im one of madden's biggest critics!! Of course they still need to fix up on the a.i. and the playbooks, nd the franchise nd others. But jeez it seems soooo realitisic when they talk. Its realli like listening to a nfl game. I dnt wanna gas my head or anything so i'll wait until the game comes out. But this to me was if not the biggest, one of the biggest improvements for madden.

    P.S. the other guy rich brown i wasnt feelin him tht much, but there was this other dude on a different website who i liked better. ima see if i can find it…

    Wow, they are blowing it out the water this year. Fantastic job. NCAA 2011 looks to be amazing and Madden 2011 looks to continue the success it had last year. I never thought EA would get their act together. They really have proven me wrong. Awesome job.

    I believe EA partnered with MLG to run competitions. I doubt we'll see the return of the “Madden Challenge” in the way it used to be.

    Props to EA. If the gameplay is straight then the audio upgrades will be an excellent addition to Madden 11.

    Sorry to break it to you but this was not meant to be final commentary. This was a live unscripted recording that you heard, not the computerized commentary that will be in the game. However, Gus Johnson will probably be an improvement from Hammond, and Collinsworth is back with his great PBP. So the commentary will probably be better than in 10, but not that real. However, even though its early alpha, take note of the other improvements/changes: kicking meter, enhanced presentation, gameflow, run blocking, etc.

    EA purchased the rights to every song in every stadium…Now that is awesome…Not to mention they FINALLY input the stadium-specific sounds (Viking horn).

    Nice to see the presentation getting some love. I hope that they expand on the Extra Point and minimize the generic yardage. I also hope that EA fixes the audio editing as well…

    All-in-all, both football games are looking good.

    lmfao. I kno tht its not meant to be final commentary. It said it on the website i provided and they said in the begininng of the video. lol. I like collinsworth even thought there are some ppl who dnt like him. The run blocking and the presentation to me are improvements for some reason the gameflow i could care less for. Maybe i have to play the game but for right now i could care less about it….

    But like i said they still need to fix the following: superbowl celebrations, a.i., rubberband a.i., halftime analysis, implement custom playbooks, running animations (please take out the sliding on ice b.s.) & catching animations.

    Gus Johnson who cares…how about EA make a game that we want instead of having aabout 30 unimportant features and spreading them out over six titles. Gameflow…LOL is a perfect example..why..cause we have been playing gameflow for years..how….ask madden is the same as a coach calling your plays…and setting ratings for situational plays is also a scam..thats what preset audibles are…sure you can customize a playbook…BUT IT IS THE SAME BOOK…meaning you cant take “situational plays” from the pats book..then add plays from saints…you can only add plays from 1 book…they will put a new coat of paint on a beat up jallopy and tell you its a cadillac. Real customplaybooks man….I was doing this on PS1..I think..Ps2 for sure…why is it so difficult for that…..is locomotion really that different from what we have…NO! But we are THRILLED, that we have a new announcer…LOL Madden is a great game no doubt…but ITS THE SAME GM….EA we are on to you…hope Backbreaker makes some headway!!

    I happen to think that aside from getting the “gloves and shoes” right on specific players (I mean who really cares about that nonsense) this is the least important thing related in any way to madden. I think the proper response here is WHO CARES? If you play the game enough you will have to hear all the same commentary over and over and no matter how awesome it was when it came out after one month of play you probably wont even be listnening anyways. I want the gameplay to be fun and realistic to football (and I dont mean in terms of clothing etc) and have an entertaining franchise system so I can play for a long time and enjoy the game. All the other presentations stuff is nonsense and I have never felt it enhances the game. It takes away from the time spent improving the actual play.
