The demo for Madden 11 is now available for the Xbox 360 and will be arriving for the PS3 this afternoon. The demo is made up of a full game with five minute quarters featuring the Colts @ Jets. It provides the ability to build a GamePlan off the two team’s playbooks which in doing so will unlock the corresponding achievement/trophy once the full version of Madden 11 is played. It also has selectable difficulty level and gameplay sliders that can be tweaked.

As early as this evening I’ll get up some impressions, how it compares to what was played at E3, and some videos. Feel free to leave your thoughts on the demo in the comments!

The day is coming, mark my words. There are already 3rd party developers making the move already and its only a matter of time before EA will feel compelled to make the move. Part of the reason for not making the move was the number of 360's on the street vs PS3. That gap is closing every day and it soon will not be viable for EA to ignore the PS3.

My biggest problem is why do both the PS3 and 360 games need to be the same. Why can't the PS3 game be more advanced. It seems to me like the PS3 games have to be dumbed down to cater to the larger 360 crowd. Thank god that BASEBALL isn't controlled by EA like the NFL is. I would love to see what San Diego Studios could do making a football game. EA better hold on to that license tight. If they give it up they will bound to be punished by PS3 users.

I am not a stupid person I know what I like and I know a quality product. I too have owned plenty of EA and 2k games. I used to buy NHL2k every year until NHL09 came out and simply PWND it. It did such a phenomenal job that is basically dealt a death blow to the game. Now NHL2k is only found on the Wii where it belongs. I also have owned both NBA2k7 and NBA2k8. They were both better than what EA had to offer at the time but I was in no way satisfied with 2k either. It was simply the lesser of 2 evils. When NBA Live 09 came out that is when I changed. I loved the Dynamic DNA and I prefer the commentary of Marv Albert. I'm an old timer and Marv is the voice of basketball. The graphics were IMHO better than 2k and I liked the game play better, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. 2k has always been a defenseless game where ultra fast PG can simply race around the lane for easy buckets. Since 2k9 and 2k10 offered nothing new and since Mike Wang went over to LIVE 10 I stuck with what I liked.

Now that EA has revamped Live into Elite and they brought over the Mastermind that orchestrated the NHL series rise to dominance I am very excited about this years game.

As far as basketball yeah man, I’m excited about both games. I’ve been more of a 2k guy myself, but I totally agree that the game plays with little to no defense. I wanna hear more from both series but both games sound good.

I have bought every Madden since I can remember, and Madden 10 was awesome, but this demo is garbage. I wish it was just a roster update. Serious impressions from Madden 11: Gameplay: Gameflow is just “Ask Madden” but now it has a coach calling the plays in to you, which completely screws up the presentation. I will be turning this off ASAP.

The hot routing and defensive audibles are beyond able to deal with for an experienced madden gamer. There is no turbo button, but occasionally the computer will make it sprint for you (like on kickoffs) more than it would if you had a turbo button, it just feels like you lost some control over your player. Also, I enjoyed the truck stick, which now makes it nearly impossible to break tackles without it.

Sound: I was more excited about the new commentary than just about anyone. Anybody who played Madden 10 for even a few games got repeated, dry commentary. Now it's choppier than ever. He screams player names, then says his sentences with something that would sound nothing like the way any commentator, including Gus Johnson would sound like. During pre-snap sometimes there is a rumbling, I'm not sure if this is supposed to be people stomping their feet or what, but it just sounds strange. Other times I was the Jets, at home, on defense and Peyton Manning is making a drive for the end zone, and pre-snap is completely silent. To me this is a huge step back on sound, and by far the most negative step back yet.

Graphics: Is it just me or is it more cartoon looking than before. Some of the great lighting and blurry background for TV presentation appears dumbed down with more colorful and cartoonish looking players.

I could go on for a while about how pissed I am at this demo. I tried to cancel my pre-order, but it is already processed through Walmart. I have been loving NCAA 11 and had high hopes for Madden. I could not have been more let down.

I've played 3 games and I like it.

Pros: This game feels like ps2 madden gameplay and gamespeed wise. User picks or catches take more stick skills. Graphics are ight… Im on another tv and miss my Samsung ToC 46″ tv, so I cant say yet. running lanes are easier to spot and much easier to run through. Announcing is a billion times better. Game only taking 30 mins I really love.

cons: Don't like the new pre snap controls. I'm sure we will get used to it, but I agree with everyone else… if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Not really a fan of gameflow.

Anyways, take that. I'm sure I'll get burned but I could really care less what people think… so yeah haha. And no I'm not a noob… been playing Madden since '01

  • Growndhawgg

The sound on the ps3 demo sucks. The crowd will cut off and Johnson's comments are all akward and out of place. I hope the presentation is just a loading error for the PSN

Alright, I've had the time to tinker around with the demo and here are my impressions. First things first, I am a PS3 user. I've owned Microsoft systems in the past along with PS2 etc, and I can truly say this year is essentially the same as others for next gen gaming in a lot of ways. Things like presentation, certain animations (like a CB and WR getting stuck in the same catch animation), and overall feel of the game is still basic in my opinion. There are a few flaws, the biggest being commentary. Gus Johnson for one cannot pronounce player names, nor does he use ANY emotion whatsoever in this game. Same monotone bullshit down after down after down. I'll be doing my own. The other flaws regard animation entrapment and some blocking AI issues. Those things have plagued the series for years.

Instead of complaining about every little things, I'm going to list the positives that I have found and explain my reasoning.

First: Doing away with the turbo button
In the demo I haven't been able to tweak the CPU speed settings like in NCAA, but once I do I'm sure this feature will really shine. I do notice immediately who's fast, and who's not. For example, LT's speed at 85 really shows when Dwight Freeney breaks a block and I can't get out of the backfield. Same with Revis keeping man coverage on anyone I tell him to! He hugs like a caliber on a break pad, it's quite fun!

    Secondly: Gameflow
While I dislike the actual shortening of length of games, I love the fact that I can gameplan offensively and defensively each week. This will allow me to cater to certain aspects of teams, (Mike Vick, Chris Johnson, Randy Moss's etc.) I think that will add a much needed depth to franchise mode and truly make or break those must win games like playoffs and division rivalries. As far as in game gameflow goes, I wish I could have a selection of plays in-game to choose from versus it auto picking based on situation. Overall it's something to build on and I'm excited to see how integral it could potentially become to the series.

Three: The Catching Animations, Break Tackles, and doing away with fight for the fumble etc.

Sideline catches are in. I've had very good success with them being called both ways. I also like how when user catching I can really go up with WR's like Fitz and Moss to defeat those shorter DB's. Tackle breaking is good for the right back. Darren Sproles is going to be a nightmare to break a tackle with but man is Stephen Jackson and AP going to be beastly. I can't say enough about not having to have an epileptic compulsive seizure in order to win a fumble. Thank God.

Overall, there are things that I can tell were looked over. Voice over interviews and pre/after game shows would be nice with ESPN integration. I hate to sound 2K fanboyish but it can't be that hard to program. Other than those few things, I can safely say I will enjoy this years Madden, and as far as the demo goes, I rate it a solid 8.9, which is high for my likes. Hope you enjoyed, feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

you got all this based off the demo? nice… I agree with you on the running backs. you can feel a difference. Heck I think all over offensively you can feel a difference in speed, player ability, etc. SHONN GREENE IS A BEAST on the demo. Love him! So I can't wait to use my Double Trouble combo of D. Williams and J. Stewart. However, I can't lie. The bull that this game contains stinks… it stinks more than any other pile, and it's partly because EA Sports puts it there. The “pad” is contradicting of this years' entire motto (Simpler Quicker Deeper), and just like all things EA they won't say why they actually have it in the game (to stop nano blitzing and other exploitations). I don't have a prob. with that but at least OFFLINE give us the option to turn it off. Things such as suction blocks, no double-hit tackling, mid-air wtf's, and a lack of physics hurt M11. Not enough to make it unplayable (at least for me), but I'm just tired of it all being there when it's been there for years.

  • philly

they “turned it off”. you have to go to settings to turn it back on. They also removed the ability for the user to strafe; have to go turn it on as well.

  • philly

actually I hope they lose it quickly. Exclusive licensing KILLED sports game in my honest opinion. I miss having multiple baseball, football and basketball games to choose from. Once EA loses the license, we'll really see what they're made out of. Everyone knows before they acquired the NFL, them and 2K were neck and neck in terms of quality games.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!! Pasta, I am more than a little disappointed in this demo. I have been playing Madden since 1989 and I have continue to look forward to August every year to grab my copy @ midnight. The graphics and player models in this Madden demo do not hold a candle to the graphics and player models in the NCAA 11 demo. I am completely shocked!! I have never been an NCAA gamer, always Madden. This year however, it really looks like the NCAA devs really did take huge leaps and bounds in terms of graphics, presentaion, and gameplay. What happened here Pasta? Is Madden not supposed to be the dominant franchise for EA? Their “staple”? I was hoping Madden would look like NCAA but what I still see is these player models with their jagged outter lines, no nice shadowing like NCAA. Pasta, what is the deal?

  • Brickd

I think this year I actually will HAVE to buy NCAA over Madden. SMH hard right now

  • Bricks

You are on point about the graphics dude.

  • Tristate killa

I love the demo in my opinion its hands down the best Madden to date. The running is fun as hell.

Pros: They finally got sideline catches down accurately, for example towards the end of the 3rd qtr Manning through bomb to Reggie Wayne in the back of the end zone and Reggie turned his head looking for the ball and made sure if feet were in bounds.

Cons: As always are the lack of physics but I can get over that and the lack of double hit tackles. I hate how when you run the ball and get tackled around a bunch of defenders they all go down like bowling pins, it just looks stupid.

Overall its a huge improvement gameplay wise and being to gameplan with gameflow offensively and defensivly speeds up the whole game like they said it would.

Your complaints are valid. I still play 2K5 with updated rosters because I like so much of the physics in that game. The presentation is very nice too in 2K. I'm just trying to enjoy it for what it is. And I'm getting the game for only $20 due to the trade in your old shitty games at gamestop deal. I can't complain.

I got the game for 5 bucks with the gamestop trade-in. Taking into account that yeah I paid for the games I traded in for M11, I'm still paying the devil of a company (I think) that is EA Sports (I don't know if the money for those trade in games goes to EA or Gamestop. BUT only 5 dollars came out of my wallet at the time, and that's the most I'd pay for this raggedy game. If I don't see a new franchise mode next year I'm going Samuel L Jackson from Pulp motha flippin FRICTION on EA Sports!

I got the running game figured out on madden 11, it seems like they go slow but its all about how fast your players acceleration rating is when u run u start to pick up speed on a run play it all depends on if ur blockers block for u so u have more time to pick up speed cuz i was playin and when i finally got out in the open he started to go faster
