The weekend that follows the Thanksgiving holiday stretch is typically one of the weakest of the year in terms of new releases and also holdover strength. That once again held true as only a single film, The Warrior’s Way, opened in wide release. Meanwhile after having started #2 Tangled captured #1 as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 slid by it.

So in its second weekend Tangled captures the crown after having been the runner-up its opening weekend, which is still a relatively rare accomplishment. The movie fell a sharp but expected 55% to $21.6 million and has totaled $96 million so far. Deathly Hallows dropped 65% to $17 million and has cashed in over $244 million so far but despite the biggest opening of the series it doesn’t look like it will become the highest grossing one. It was the worst fall of any wide release which doesn’t bode well going forward.

The Warrior’s Way opened to $3 million and came in ninth. There was little awareness or interest in the R rated martial-arts western. Burlesque, Unstoppable, and Love and Other Drugs rounded out the top five all dipping by 42-48%.
