Madden Developer Podcast #5

The fifth in the line of podcasts from Madden developers features Ian Cummings, Donny Moore, and designer Anthony DiMento as a guest. On the table this time is some general talk about online play for Madden 12, free Madden Moments Live for the playoffs, no roster update until next week, and answering questions from the community. The podcast runs about a half hour and can be listened to in-browser or via iTunes where it should be available shortly. If you missed it over the holiday period make sure to check out the last podcast on which I was featured as a guest. As always leave your thoughts in the comments as well as any suggestions or questions for future podcasts.

One of the questions id like to know is what EA is going to do if the NFL has a lock out next year? I didn’t care of Madden 11 so there would need to be some huge updates for me to consider it, especially since one of the things that gets me debating to buy Madden or not is the NFL season starting.

  When the NHL had their lockout (and lost an entire season) EA and 2K both put out a game. Im sure we would still see a Madden game.

    You know how glad they would be to never have to update the rosters? If there is a lockout, you can be sure EA will put out a less than stellar product. If there is football, they will polish the game up much more. lll they would have to do for the entire season is release a patch or two. Dream come true for EA Sports: minimal effort, maximum profit

  Unfortunately I find these guys not only incompetent but really unlikeable. To listen to these morons for 30 mins of my time is not worth it, however I’d love to know if there was anything AT ALL of any note included in this.

so basically not counting that joke of a roster update before Christmas were going to have no updates for the past 3 weeks of nfl action? what a joke… ea is screwing us out of updates at the time in the season when guys should really be making a move up or down

so pasta you should definitely remind them to put in real home field advantage and crowd noise in madden 12. Qwest Field draws an average of over 2 false starts per game there since 2005. the most in the nfl. Go Hawks!!!

Nfl 2k5 is the best football video game of all time! I cant wait for 2k to make another football game! It does not even need to be an nfl licensed game just make a game with full customization and some sort of online franchise and football gamers will be in heaven!

  People keep going back to 2k5 not because it’s better than today’s game but because it shows the lack of progression from EA considering what was possible 6 years ago! Madden series has been a let down on current gen and EA has done football gaming a disservice. 2k losing the rights to NFL is a loss for all of us football gaming fans because lack of competition is what has stifled progress.

Why come on here still praising 2K5 like it had GREAT GAMEPLAY…IT DIDNT….So if you are though with EA, and sick of their football game…STOP READING ABOUT IT, AND GO PLAY 22K5..WHY CONTINUE TO TORTURE YOURSELF…the presentation for 2K5 was awesome, the gameplay, and playbooks were not good….

  2k5 had good gameplay for it’s day. Personally, I liked the Madden 05 gameplay better, but 2k5 was a better adaptation of football. Blocking and tackling was better than Madden. It just frustration man. People are frustrated that Madden has not delivered a true sim football game. They’ve gone in the direction of catering to the masses as oppose to real football fans. They should leave all the gratuitous bells and whistles to the Wii. There’s no other sports game that people compare to a game 6 years old. Not in basketball, baseball, or hockey. It’s sad that people are still even mentioning a 6 year old game with football. What does that say about the progression of Madden?

  2k Gameplay was incredibly realistic! Maybe not what You arcadey fanboys want in a football game but hey everyone has an opinion. also Playbooks on 2k are much more organic (You can even choose your line stunt presnap on Madden I.e REAL LIFE PLAY CALLING)

They came in as testers on video games and it seems that their skill set hasnt changed in making a good madden game. I love how they talk about how this and that could be better but they neglect their own word each year…just makes me laugh each year!

I’ve had Madden since day 1 but it never intrested me so I never finished a complete season, but do superbowl players play in teh pro bowl??

  never injured someone in a pro bowl but i’d love to see if anyone knows if an injury to a superbowl player in the pro bowl gets carried through?

I don’t understand how people can claim that ratings don’t matter.

Make a player that in 99 overall in all categories. Put him at QB. Then tell me ratings don’t matter. The game isn’t even fun because you can’t be stopped.

Ratings do change gameplay. Maybe just not as much as you want. Madden is the best football available. Stop complaining about it being unrealistic because its a VIDEO GAME.

If you want realistic, maybe get off the couch and go outside and play football.
