Rumors swirling throughout the day pegged Kevin Costner for a role in the upcoming Superman reboot from Zack Snyder. Though nothing has been made official it appears he is being targeted for what has been described as a “key role”. According to LatinoReview that role would be as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, father to Clark Kent.

In early versions of the comics the Kent’s die soon after Clark graduates High School, but the more recent stories have them living much longer and becoming important supporting characters. Considering Pa Kent to be a “key role” would suggest the story will either follow the more recent representations in the comics or he will be seen in flashbacks.

This would be just the second piece of casting news on the film. Recently Henry Cavill was announced as the choice to play Clark Kent/Superman. The movie is targeted to release in December 2012 which means it will be gearing up for production within the next few months.
