TBS Cancels Glory Daze

Earlier today TBS announced that they have decided against renewing Glory Daze for a second season. The hour-long comedy series pulled in respectable ratings for the network which makes the cancellation news somewhat surprising. The show debuted with a 1.0 in the critical 18-49 demo and tailed off by the finale to a .6 which for TBS still is a decent number. The show also was supported with relatively strong DVR numbers but apparently it wasn’t enough.

I started watching Glory Daze as it became a lead-in to Conan and found the show to be understated and enjoyable though largely forgettable. The marketing may have implied a brashness that ultimately wasn’t there given the frat house setting and themes still had to adhere to cable standards. Being set in the 80’s may have led to high licensing costs as well given how the show used a lot of recognizable songs. Regardless hopefully TBS will continue to try and produce original programming despite their disappointment with this particular project and they currently have two such pilots in production.
