EA Sports Developing Baseball Game for Facebook

While EA Sports still has at least one more year to wait through before being able to bring back MVP Baseball to the consoles the company is reportedly working on a MLB licensed Facebook game. That would add to the company’s current offerings on the social platform which includes Madden NFL Superstars, FIFA Superstars, and PGA Tour Golf Challenge. Though no launch time frame is stated in the article it would seem to reason that a targeted live date would be opening day of the regular season or at least within the next couple months.

SEGA recently launched MLB Manager Online which would on the surface squeeze the market of what EA is about to enter into. Similar in structure it too is a licensed product that is free-to-play and supported by microtransactions. That game got out there first and has been well received. Facebook’s user base however makes the potential there practically limitless, even as those EA games are more simplified forms of team building/card collecting.

Jon Robinson hypes up MLB 2K every year in his previews and then bashes it like that in articles after release. Just something that stands out to me and why I dont read ESPN’s games coverage anymore.

Can NOT WAIT for MVP to be back!

used to look forward to EA getting back into baseball but since i got a PS3 now..i could care less,i just can’t see any EA game taking me away from the show..

Completely agree. Of course, who knows what EA would bring. I see it as about 99-1 to 1 chance that EA does enough to take me away from The Show. Between RTTS and just the outstanding graphics and gameplay, I don’t think I will ever turn on it unless they do something really bad and EA does something really good. However, I look at MVP 2005 and it was, in my opinion, advanced for PS2. I agree, but look out for EA, I think they will be impressive in 13′.

yea i think EA will put out an excellent game but it’s just going to be hard to top the the show, great news though for exclusive 360 owners,i think the only way i would ever switch is if someday they would get even with the show and include NCAA like i think? they are going to do with the NHL series..

Again, it’s a Facebook game, guys. The only games they’re going to be competing with are other Facebook games, which are not really games at all, just reasons to keep you stuck on Facebook.

It’s a Facebook game. I don’t think their intention is to compete with console games.

yes your right the article is about the facebook game but if you read the article from jon robinson where he says EA will get back into making a baseball game for a console and pasta says MLB is not going to do another 3rd party exclusive,so EA does plan on getting back into baseball..that’s what we are talking about..

What are the odds that MVP does actually come back? And does The Show’s liscense run out soon? I know it would probably be extended with how good the game is, but I am just curious.

Almost certain. MLB is not going to do another 3rd party exclusive, and EA has been dying to get back in.

The Show doesn’t have any license agreement to run out. They are allowed to publish the game because it’s made by Sony for their own console. 2K just has the third party license. Microsoft and Nintendo could make a MLB baseball game if they wanted to as long as it was exclusive to their consoles.

They’re just warming up in the bullpen before it’s time to go out for the real game.

2K ran out of gas a few innings ago and would rather be in the dugout chewing a dip, but promised the coach 7 innings. The opposing team has scored 20 runs already because the fielders insist on awkwardly lunging at every pop fly right before it hits the ground and the first baseman was decapitated after a close play in the infield resulted in the pitcher firing the ball at his head from 2 feet away. Not that it matter though…the only fans who haven’t left yet are the ones who are asleep or have enjoyed “Thirsty Thursday” a little too much.

So will MVP be back with next years class of games or the following?

It will takes years before we see a decent baseball game out of EA in my opinion. Once we do, get used to the staleness and them ripping out and adding in features every year. It’s pretty typical of how they run their sports gaming business. Rather than innovate each year, they reduce, reuse, and recycle. At least they are sticking to the times and using a green motto.

Is EA allowed to make a baseball game for 2012 or is the soonest 2013?
