Full List of New Features for Dynasty and Road to Glory in NCAA Football 12

Today EA Sports further detailed improvements to Dynasty mode in NCAA Football 12 while providing the first look at the enhancements made to Road to Glory career mode. Check out brand new screenshots in the gallery and continue on for a video preview of Dynasty mode and full breakdowns of the new features in both.

Dynasty will receive the “Coaching Carousel” and custom conferences. Remember those Online Dynasty web features of advancing weeks or simming games? Those aren’t free, each one will cost $3 to utilize. Road to Glory mode will include expanded time in High School with the ability to play a full senior season and there will be an element of “Coach’s Trust” to determine position battles and on-field opportunities. Credit to GameInformer for the full breakdown.

DYNASTY MODE

Custom Conferences
•Instead of just being able to swap teams between conferences, now you can expand or shrink conferences from four to sixteen teams
•You can set conference rules from allowing Thursday games, protected rivals, division names/alignment, scheduling of conference games, location of the conference championship game, and more
•You can also edit the bowl tie-ins, so the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl could not include the Big 12 or remove tie-ins altogether and just go off of straight BCS rankings. You could even make it so independents like Notre Dame don’t have a tie-in to any bowls, which sounds like a great plan
•No conference creation or BCS playoff-style tournament
•Conferences can be changed from year to year

Create a Coach/Coaching Carousel
•Start out as either a head coach (use an existing coach or one create one from scratch) or coordinator. Coordinators naturally only call and run plays for their side of the ball. Coordinators will still recruit, however
•Can edit any coaches/players that are existing on the disc. This can be posted as a file online for others to download
•The game wants to replicate the coaching carousel of the NCAA, so your contract status and goals will be closely monitored from year to year. Depending on the school, you’ll get goals like getting a bowl birth, having a top recruiting class, winning a national championship, and much more. For coordinators, goals will be stat based
•Your coaching prestige and job security change from week to week, so you’ll have to ride the rollercoaster all season, and this also affects your recruiting. If you’re on the hot seat, for example, players may be less inclined to sign onto your program
•AI coaches will retire, get fired, and hop from job to job, and this will affect the entire coaching landscape. The AI will hire coaches based on things like whether a candidates is an alum or not, coaching style, etc. You will also get offers while you are currently employed
•Although you can start out as a coordinator, when you are a head coach you do not hire your coordinator positions
•In online dynasties, the commish sets what level everyone is at, whether that’s one-star defensive coordinators or full-on high-caliber head coaches

Online Dynasty Web Browser
•Commish can advance the week from the web – but only if you pay a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft Points
•You can super-sim your games versus the CPU on the web – including calling plays, modifying your depth chart, and more. You can also pause the game at any time, sim forward a quarter, etc. Again, however, this will cost you a one-time fee of $2.99 or 240 Microsoft Points
•Both of the above browser features can be bought in one Commissioner Pack for $6.99/560 MP, and the pack also includes the ability to be commish to up to five dynasties

Misc.
•Custom Playbooks: Add remove plays and formations at will. You can set up exactly how you see your playbook, from grouping all medium passes to putting all play-action plays together, and more. This is not sortable via your NCAA browser page
•Recruiting in Dynasty mode has been tuned, but not changed greatly

ROAD TO GLORY

•Explores your high school years more in depth, so you’ll play a full senior season and gain recruiting points that are based on your stats
After each game you’ll pick three local schools of varying prestige that are interested in you
•Your recruiting board shows which schools you’ve picked and how far you are to earning a scholarship for each one. You can walk on to any school, but if you have a scholarship, you’ll be able to transfer your recruiting points into XP for college
•You’ll play and be recruited on both sides of the ball
•You can edit your HS senior season from seven to eleven games, and can import online browser-built Team Builder teams as your opponents. This lets you recreate your real-life high school team’s schedule if you want

Coach’s Trust
•You work your way up the depth chart by earning Coach’s Trust Points, and even when you have enough points to catch the player who’s higher than you on the chart, you can then only take that position by winning a Position Battle – which is a glorified practice session
•Non-starters will earn Trust Points through practices and occasions when you see the field during mop-up time, etc.
•Coach Trust Points extend to your on-the-field power. QBs won’t be able to call audibles or hot routes until they have earned the coach’s trust
•Earn enough points and you can have the chance to call plays from “Extra Plays” – an extended selection of plays than what the coach has already called. This is available in varying frequency during a game the more Trust Points you earn
•The development team is also working on improving the AI play calling

XP and the Upgrade Store
•XP you earn during your college career is spent on item packs in the Upgrade Store. These packs are built around groups of attributes for specific types of players. For example, the scat back pack boosts your acceleration and juke ability
•There are 600 item packs total, and they’ll be six different ones available each week. Rarity, cost, and duration vary, but they will all be based around your position
•Upgrade Store items cannot be bought via micro-transactions

Misc.
•Calendar system scrapped, and the Road to Glory presentation is similar to the Dynasty Mode’s menus
•The mode’s menus, replays, montages, etc. will be centered around your player
•Practices are now 25 reps per practice
•Can save all your Road to Glory replays onto your NCAA browser page
•No more study sessions on your calendar

lol what a joke. pay to use features on the website. way to make me lose interest in this game ea

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Gibson/622062514 Ryan Gibson

Why not, “Your online dynasty paid for by Coke Zero.”  instead?  EAs business model of nickle and diming their customers and shoving ads down their throats is not cool. We already pay for the MS Gold pass.

      • Eagleyedesigns

You had to pay last year.  Don’t buy the fuckin’ game then…Besides, Online Football is a joke anyway.  Who plays that shit?  It’s garbage.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Gibson/622062514 Ryan Gibson

Have never bought the fuckin’ game.  “Don’t buy the fuckin’ game then” doesn’t really change the fact that I have an opinion of their business model to bate in extra cash flow. The way they have done that with Madden is ridiculous and the way they did that with the new Tiger Woods game also pissed off a lot of gamers.  $65 for a game that is developed in one year compared to games that spend 4-5 years and many $millions is pushing it. Charging extra for online pass, and Online Dynasty and other BS items that should be included for free is not a very cool way to treat loyal fans and new fans.

and BTW, Online Football is loaded with players: a LOT of people play that shit.

If you have never bought the game, why are you even on this discussion board then?  What would you care?  No one wants to see an opinion from someone who is not an avid user of the product you are commenting about, so your point is moot.  Second, EA is not forcing anyone to purchase DLC and last time I checked, the online passcode comes with the game when purchased.  Most consumers that are fanboys of EA sports titles are very aware of the products game cycle.  Do you actually think that we purchase much of, or at all, the DLC that is offered?  Knowing a newer product will replace it annually?  Absolutley not.  Besides, who has fuckin’ time to juggle 5 or 6 different Online Dynasties, for which you have to pay for to access that feature.  Half of the time, from what I hear, players can’t even complete a season of it unless they have formulated a league.  Obviously, these DLC charges are falling by the wayside because in NCAA 12 the DLC for some Online features are half the cost of what they were last year.  It is all about consumer choice, my friend.  Yeah, the Tiger Woods DLC can be annoying, but you do not need those courses to progress in the PGA tourney or do you need them to play in The Masters, which is the meat of the game.

Also, don’t blame EA or other game publishers for stressing features and/or items in DLC.  Blame the internet.  I have nothing against a company trying to manipulate all points of an avenue to reach the masses with a product.  That is what you call “A Smart Business Model”.  You shove shit down peoples throats in order to make the sale.  By giving the consumer the freedom of a purchasing choice, you open the door for a prime sale opportunity at any given point.  In today’s world, that is EXACTLY how you run a business of you want to keep your job and be profitable.  That is why the internet is such a marketing force.  What the fuck do you think you would do if you ran a business?  You wouldn’t take advantage?  You’re full of shit and stupid if you don’t.  And, if you mentioned “your opinion” to a company about their business model “to bait in extra cash flow”, you’ll never get a job or last in this fuckin’ world.  Better study your Economics, pal.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Gibson/622062514 Ryan Gibson

Because I have been a EA football gamer since 92 and I am not applying for a job.  Last year Madden wasn’t worth keeping and I should have picked up NCAA instead. This year I will probably buy both. I understand economics and capitalism well enough to to share an opinion in a VIDEO GAME BLOG. I have no doubt that EA profits from all the addition ways to generate revenue for the game. Good for them (they need to cover their loses on Elite because the competition blew them out of the water). And good for them in cornering the market with licensing deals. That’s good capitalism. As a GAMER though, I don’t like the trend.  This year it is clear that their development strategy is more focused on listening to their fanbase (good for them again), so I am just sharing my thoughts.  By the way EA, both Madden and NCAA look really great. Good work!

One last thing, Eagleyedesigns: Just look at the way Google has become the most successful company without shoving shit down your throat. See how that worked for them over Yahoo, Excite, etc?
            peace.

our online dynasty last yr got to season 8.  No games simmed.  We just quit in March, cuz it was getting to easy and we all started with C+ or worse teams.  That was the most fun some of us had with any game, EVER.

          • Eagleyedesigns

Yeah, maybe I’ll have to give it a shot with a good group of players then.

So that is it for Dynasty then… lol
RTG looks really cool though. I might actually play that this year.

  • helele

ridiculous. looks like im passing on NCAA this year, Madden seems to be the better one.

  • TheShyt

Wow! You get to actually play H.S. ball. I have been waiting for that for a loooooong time.

    • Jrzfnst11

only if this opportunity existed about 6 years ago when i was still in HS, i would have shit myself with excitement. Whatever at least i get to live the dreams of an all-american HS player vicariously through EA. THANKS!! lol

CUSTOM PLAYBOOKS AND A COACHING CAROUSEL I BELIEVE THESE WERE 2 HUGELY REQUESTED FEATURES FOR DYNASTY MODE, IM HAPPY

  • Keith.

Wish pasta would take his EA friends to task for their constant nickel and diming their customers.

    • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

I have done so and will continue to do so when warranted. Remember this for example?
      http://www.pastapadre.com/2010/07/16/ea-sports-now-going-over-the-top-with-dlc

My main problem with this is they let the features come out *before* revealing they wouldn’t be free.

      • http://twitter.com/Roggie2499 Tyler Rogoff

That’s the part that made me mad. If they announced it with a price right away, instead of teasing everyone with nobody even expecting for it to be DLC, would be okay.

  • Wildfirexxi

I mean, while its not actually RIGHT, I dunno about you guys buy whenever I advance I plan on playing my game right afterward

  • http://twitter.com/WWOFTBBNR Phil

Charging for extra features is kind of lame, but really $6 is nothing. Basically the fee is paying for the extra bandwidth/server space necessary to make the features work.

As far as the other additions, this is looking like it could be THE premiere football game of this generation. Can’t wait!

    • Keith.

THE premiere football game of its generation would have more than 1 available gameplay camera angle, and in-game saves.

Nice to see you defending EA and continuing the hype as usual though, Phil.

      • Tomgreen

Because everyone wants to play with a sideline view and save in-game against the pc! Get out of here with that nonsense, this isn’t tecmo bowl and saving in-game against the pc leads to cheesing the season. Get some friends and play a real online dynasty not that single player garbage.

The coaching carousel seems pretty fun especially starting off as a coordinator.

I remember we saw a screen shot of Oregon vs LSU in Cowboys Stadium previously, but in the Dynasty video, they are playing in Louisiana. Makes me less excited about the possibility of neutral site games being included.

theres no neutral game site when you customize a dynasty

The fees are pretty small when shared with a few people in the dynasty. What really bothers me is how pasta said … they told us the features before announcing the fees. And it is the whole nickel and diming aspect. No longer do we pay $65 for a game … More like $85-$90 to get the complete product. High profit margin for these small fees too. maybe they can save us the money for the manual and box. Let us download the game and then include all of these add ons for the same $65 fee. It would be more “greener” and better all around.

    • guy

if 6 bucks deters you from a game this much and puts that big of a dent in your wallet….take one hour away from the computer and go whack your neighbors weeds. there  you go. ten bucks. you can buy the features and get a value meal.

      • http://www.woodsidemediagroup.com/ Amani

As I said before, the fees won’t be an issue for me. It is the emerging trend of microtransactions increasing the total amount you will pay for games. Plus the bait and switch marketing tactic of discussing features AND THEN revealing there is a cost.

        • Wildfirexxi

This is happening with EVERY game with an online component though, people can’t just blame EA for this…..

        • guy

above comment not directed at you amani, but intended for everyone saying this is a dealbreaker. i agree that it’s lame in principle, but there isnt anything we can do. i agree that “bait and switch” tactics are bad business…but it is what it is. no reason for a bunch of people to spew more hate for ea. the ones saying they will not buy because of this are the same losers that find something negative to say every single year….and they always buy it anyways. i have no problem with the fees for “additions and cheats” but it does suck that features we all want and were promised come with an additional price. but in reality…id like to think the 6 bucks i give them goes to help paying the salary for another employee or employees to come in and help make next years game better. weve seen how much money they just lost on the nba series and even big businesses are feeling the rising costs of running a business.

It is unfortunate that we need to pay to use more services, but I’m not going to complain. There is nothing we can do about it and I’m sure the Commissioner pack is worth it.  I’d rather pay for these features than not have them at all.

  • http://twitter.com/PC022 Paul Cottingham

You guys gotta be kidding me whining about $6.99. Thats gonna make or break whether you buy the game or not? You don’t even have to buy it if you don’t want to. If you play dynasty mode, you were probably already gonna pay the extra $10 for all the booster packs anyway…

I’m surprised there’s such outrage over two minor features costing a couple of bucks.  Especially given all of the great improvements elsewhere, it seems like people are just desperate to find something to be angry about.

  • ballsucker69

DANG IT!!! I was hoping they would bring back the mid-terms and final exams and the dorm rooms and everything else from the ps2 version of road to glory/campus legend.

  • ballsucker69

hey pasta, do you think this means that if you do well with a small school dynasty mode, you can move them to a power conference?

  • Pete Rose

pasta, can you find out if player lock is still in?

    Thanks

  • http://twitter.com/Starfoxleon The Great Leon

This game is a beautiful thing. I don’t do online stuff so none of that matters to me. The coaching stuff just looks amazing. I didn’t think the game could get that much better from last year. An the conference change is amazing so much can be done.

    • Redbeard

My concern – as head coach, you don’t hire your coordinators?  Did I read that right?  And coordinators seem to come with their own playbooks (maybe?).  So, I could spend 3 years as head coach, my OC gets hired as HC elsewhere, and then the computer hires a coordinator for me with a completely different playbook?  Is that correct?

      • ballsucker69

i would assume if you’re the head coach, you automatically have say over your offensive & defensive playbooks

      • http://twitter.com/Starfoxleon The Great Leon

Yeah I think HC get say over everyone so the OC and DC won’t matter much. They only matter if you start as one of the coordinators. You bring up interesting point with coordinators going elsewhere. Say I start off as DC and go to become HC I assume I take my defensive plays, but do I hire offensive guy? or are they assigned? Should go in an change the teams style.

Who the hell uses a 6-star rating system?

  • VandyDore

Are people really this pissed about an extra $6 for an optional luxury feature? Is that really going to make or break this game, less than an hour’s worth of work? Dear God do people criticize too much, Dynasty sounds sick and I might actually play RtG this year. Its no My Player in 2k11 but it actually sounds promising. And why am I the only one who’s pumped as fuck about the coaching carousel thing? This sounds like it’ll add 50 times more depth to Dynasty. People need to stop complaining.

  • Koachvonner

This game is going to be awesome. I’m not tripping over $7 that’s for damn sure. Plus, like someone mentioned earlier. EA is not the only company doing all this pay for DLC. They’ve been doing that with stuff for Call of Duty for years now.

  • who dat!?

    Keep working on dynasty mode.

  • 12jkey

    Wack!!!!

  • Kwmiacanes

God I cant wait for this game…

  • Mike

I have to say the Create A Coach & Coaching Carousel sound great. Hopefully this means Madden will get those in for next year. Coaching Carousel would even add more depth to the off-season in Franchise Mode on Madden and overall sounds great. If they really tuned the Draft Class Import like they said they would I might get both NCAA and Madden this year.
