Backbreaker: Vengeance Carries Hefty Price

Posted June 24th, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Carefully omitted from the announcement of next week’s release of Backbreaker: Vengeance on XBLA was the price. NaturalMotion has now followed up by stating that the game will go for 1200 MS points which is the equivalent of $15.

That might be asking a bit much considering a comparable experience on iOS can be had for 99 cents and the full retail version of Backbreaker (which includes a ‘Tackle Alley’ mode) now goes for less even brand new. While there has been little promotion for Vengeance it looks to be a solid effort but ultimately it’s still essentially just a mini-game with added twists.

Backbreaker: Vengeance expands on ‘Tackle Alley’ by adding defensive and obstacle modes. It is set to release for the Xbox 360 as a digital download exclusive according to NM on Wednesday June 29th. That though that may be a Europe-specific date as the marketplace updates on Tuesdays in North America and thus don’t be surprised to see it out on the 28th instead.

  • Ouch. This just went from a definite purchase to a wait and see once I’ve played the trial.

I really enjoyed Tackle Alley in the original game’s demo and I love the iOS games so I really want to pick this one up but $15 is steep. I was expecting it to go for 800 MSP.

They need to work on BB2, they had a really good start in BB1, If we wanted to play tackle alley we would play it on our phones or play it on BB1.

They don’t know what they’re doing. It’s a shame because this engine has a ton of potential. Hopefully they’ll regroup and find their way.

  • so it’s $15 just to play defense in Tackle Alley, as opposed to the original Backbreaker that had Tackle Alley but just offense, and also featured full 11-11 football with online play.   They should work on making Icebreaker a full 6-6 hockey game, there’s some potential there.

Not sure how you misread that, but you can still play RB (offense) in this game… Doesn’t matter though, because almost nobody is going to buy it.

      • i can see how you thought that, i didn’t write my thoughts properly.  i meant the only thing new is just defense.
