With its midnight showings Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 raked in $43.5 million which shatters the previous record holder The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s $30 million from June 2010. Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has already made over $100 million worldwide.

The higher prices that comes with 3D screens played a role as Warner Bros. reports all midnight 3D shows were sold out. It remains to be seen if that will be the choice of moviegoers or if the increased options that come with the weekend will lead them to non-3D showings which has been the trend this year.

As the final entry in the Harry Potter franchise, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is expected to break the opening day record of $72 million from The Twilight Saga: New Moon and threaten the opening weekend record that is currently held by The Dark Knight of $158 million.
