The reboot of Superman – which will be titled Man of Steel – has gone through a high profile early development process. Christopher Nolan took the role over overseeing the project, David S. Goyer was assigned to write the script, and Zack Snyder was selected as director. Then the casting began with Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Johnathan ‘Pa’ Kent), Diane Lane (Martha ‘Ma’ Kent), and Russell Crowe (Jor-El). The release date was being targeted for December 2012.

During Comic-Con the news broke that the planned release was being moved to June 14th 2013. While Warner Bros. has not given an explicit reason for the delay there have been rumblings of issues with the script. It also may have been done to avoid going head-to-head with The Hobbit. The studio obviously has a lot on the line with Man of Steel as they hope it will be the start of a new franchise. Shooting will reportedly begin next month unless a delay is made in the production schedule as well.
