The 15 NBA 2K12 Legends Revealed

The complete list of legends and their tasks for NBA’s Greatest Mode in NBA 2K12 has been revealed today by ESPN. Check out the full write-up there for the breakdowns and images. Each will be accompanied by their team from the specific year and their respective opponents and once the task is completed they will be unlocked to use against current or other historic teams. Games will be presented in a visual style true to their days and reflect the NBA rules of the time.

Larry Bird: 85-86 Celtics vs Hawks
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 86-87 Lakers vs Celtics
Julius “Dr. J” Erving: 84-85 76ers vs Bucks
Wilt Chamberlain: 71-72 Lakers vs Knicks
Oscar Robertson: 70-71 Bucks vs Lakers
Bill Russell: 64-65 Celtics vs Lakers
Jerry West: 70-71 Lakers vs Hawks
John Stockton: 97-98 Jazz vs Lakers
Isiah Thomas: 88-89 Pistons vs Bulls
Karl Malone: 97-98 Jazz vs Spurs
Scottie Pippen: 95-96 Bulls vs Sonics
Hakeem Olajuwon: 93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Seems pretty easy to see why when you see the list, the best of the best. Reggie wasn’t anything other than a brilliant shooter, CBarkley for his size was a voracious rebounder, but neither belongs in the 15 guys listed class. You disagree ? Then who are they going to take off ?

Shaq didn’t make it either. Surprised Moses Malone was not mentioned in any polls I saw.

Did I miss something about Charles Barkley because he was on the 84-85 76ers team with Dr. J as a rookie. So I would think he will still be in the game? If they wanted to not include him they could have chosen the previous year.

Kind of disappointed in some of the overlap. Do both Pippen and Jordan really need to be on there? Do both Stockton and Malone? If the whole team is available, then it seems redundant and it takes spots from other possible players on the 15.

I would have also liked to have seen other teams included in the matchups against the top 15 players. How about the Pacers against Ewing’s Knicks? Put Olajuwon against the Magic instead and get Shaq and Penny in the game that way. How about throwing a young T-Wolves team in their with Garnett and Allen as one of the opponents?

Guys missing in some form that I think need to be in the game to make it truly unique include Barkley, Bob Cousy, Bill Walton (Portland version), Rick Barry, George Gervin, Allen Iverson, Bob Pettit, and Dave Cowens.

I’ll likely still get it but was hoping for more. Maybe they will have DLC.

I’ve seen hundreds of comments leading up to this announcement with a lot of people demanding the Pacers this year with Reggie Miller, and they fail to get it done again. They should have been included last year but I was willing to forgive them for that if they got it right this year. I am not buying this game and am staying true to my word, until Reggie is in, I am done buying 2k basketball games. I don’t expect anyone else to do the same, I know they won’t, but for me this is a must.

Love the list especially the use of RUN TMC and Shaq’s favorite team. I just hope maybe next year, my 92-93 Suns (at 5 years old, seeing them made me a fan of the Suns) since it was Barkley’s MVP year. The best game would be the 3OT game to use against the Bulls. I just love to dunk on Bill Cartwright with KJ.

Man thank god my Seattle Sonics made the cut …..would have been nice to see Barkley ,Reggie miller & Iverson get some love but hey the effort and creativity to create these teams and and the atmosphere and era in which the legends played in is just sick!!……..NOW WHY CAN’T 2K make a good baseball game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet it came down to this…Next year they’ll have CB34, Diesel, Reggie, Shaq, this year it was the best of the best HOF greats. Karl Malone is better than Barkley.

All though, miller and Barkley are not gonna be in this game this year, It would be hard to be disappointed in this epic line up 2k is going to deliver, penny hardaway&a young shaq, Larry Johnson and Alonzo, dekembe vs olajuwon, pistol Pete , Daryl Dawkins to name a few. They are never going to be able to include everyones favorite player, but I think all in all this is one he’ll of a line up . Add that to what you know will be an awesome presentation and game play this game is shaping up to be one for the ages. I cannot wait to get my hands on this game.

I find it odd that there’s a 12 year gap where there are no teams. It just goes 71-72 Lakers to ’85 sixers. That’s a significant chunk of NBA history omitted right there. As a Celtics fan it woulda been cool to see the some boston teams of the 70s but it doesn’t stop there. What about Bill Walton and the 1977 Blazers? Out of every player’s career year, Walton’s year in 77 ranks among the top 15 at least. Woulda also been nice to see some of Rick Barry’s mid 70s warrior’s teams. At least Moses is in the game even though he’s not one of “NBA’s Greatest”. All the players I mentioned are EASILY top 25 material at their best and maybe even top 15. I mean, John Stockton is on the list. Couldn’t they switch him with ’77 Walton? They only need Karl Malone to represent the late 90s Jazz, not two players. Until they incorporate the 70s, modern fans will have to assume that nothing notable happened between Wilt and 85.
