EA Sports has revealed the roster of 23 tennis greats that will be featured in the upcoming Grand Slam Tennis 2 – slated to be out in early 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The roster is headlined by names from the past including John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, and Pete Sampras which are mixed with those currently playing and relevant such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 is the only game to feature all four Grand Slam Tournaments and will include “Grand Slam Classics” matches to re-play famous moments, right stick analog shot controls, and PlayStation Move support (no Kinect for Xbox 360).

    Need Isner

      If so, need Mahout

Well not just because of the longest match at Wimbeldon, because they are doing “Classics”, but also Isner is an up and coming young player in the USA. Personally I feel he is the best men’s tennis player in the US.

Fair enough, I was more just joking around. Its kind of sad that Isner is our most promising tennis player right now. Far cry from the early ’90′s.

Agassi, Connors, Courier would’ve been cool too.

Horrible, they’ve done 0 since the Wii version.  I think it’s identical except for Kei Nishikori, whoever that is.  Great representation of the women’s game without the #1 player.  No Wozniacki, Zvonareva, Azarenka, Li Na, Stosur, Kvitova, Bartoli.  These are top players not even in the game.  The classic players are fine, but the active players on this roster are best suited for about 5 to 8 years ago.

I will probably buy this for the tennis, but not the roster. Come’on, 23 players? EA had time to create a couple thousand detailed players in Madden (at least decent detail), and they couldn’t create heck at least 50 current players and maybe a couple dozen greats? I think they could have stepped it up a little bit, but still looks like a good game.

The reason behind this is licensing. Tennis players are individuals and companies have to pay each one separately to use their likeness where with the NFL and other leagues they just need the leagues license to use the players. If EA wanted to have 50 current players and a couple dozen legends it would cost a fortune and they would have to pray this game sells a lot more than the first Grand Slam Tennis. Though I do agree they should have got Wozniacki, and Li Na for the women and Isner for the men, and I’m sad they couldn’t get Agassi but I think it’s because 2k paid a a whole lot to have him in Top Spin 4 and that might have prevented EA from being able to get him.

Pathetic resources wasted on this as opposed to NCAA Basketball

Does anyone know if you’ll be able to create multiple players for use in career mode?  That would be the only thing to save this game for me.
