Feature Reveal Plans for Madden NFL 13

EA Sports has posted their schedule for feature reveals relating to Madden NFL 13. Though the descriptions are vague there is quite a bit to glean from them. We do already know that a new announce team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are being introduced. A focus that lays heavily on defense has also been discussed.

The first big news will come this Wednesday which is also when the winner of the cover tournament will be announced – presentation and gameplay details are expected. “Connected Careers” and the announcement of a “monumental change to gameplay” will come out of the EA press conference leading into E3. Later in the summer will bring info on “Madden Social” which is likely related to the “online universes” the company has discussed for all their brands.

It’s worth noting that no specific mention of improvements to Online Franchise (which was pretty much guaranteed to be coming for M13) or Kinect for Xbox 360 implementation (which we know for sure is coming) are listed but they could find their way into other categories or their own info releases down the line.

Continue on to check out the full schedule with brief descriptions and leave any thoughts on the upcoming news in the comments!

I plan to rent Madden since I bought the last one. Revamped passing game and read and react I am assuming is the same as NCAA. Connected career sounds interesting like NCAA coaches can be imported but I am probably over thinking that. Presentation and audio is nice but not a big deal for me.

    • jesus the sun

Do people really habitually read and post on a video game message boards all year along with only the intent of renting the game? I’m not buying that bs.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

It’s funny how people will repeatedly say they don’t care about a game and criticize it to no end, yet also repeatedly come to every article and post the same bs. THEN say the game has sucked for the past 100 years. Yet they STILL come back every day, every week, every month, every year. It’s actually funny.

        • Dre Kellyy

Because we football dumbass and we want the game to be made the right way. what other football game can we play besides madden ????

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

It’s not made the “right” way according to you. IF you want real football, grow some balls and go outside to the local park or field. You put two ‘Y’s’ in your name though so you’re probably too soft to take a hit.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

And if you wanted to, you can go buy NFL 2k5 or APF 2k8. There are people who do roster updates for 2K5, at least.

      • http://twitter.com/Starfoxleon The Great Leon

I don’t continually hate on EA. NCAA is a game I will always buy, Madden I have recently started to just rent unless they do something to franchise like the last one. I don’t miss with their NBA games. I rather rent from Gamefly then give $65 an the game end up not being played regularly. If I like it they let you keep it for way cheaper.

        • jesus the sun

Sounds like you have a plan and I bet even you end up owning it. Still idiots make the argument that they are not giving EA their hard earned money. Well if time equals money then a lot of fools out there could buy a dozen EA games for the amount of time they waste bitching…even if (and most likely) their time is only worth minimum wage.

          • Keith.

What’s wrong with people who work for minimum wage?  Are they not entitled to have an opinion about football games that suck?

          • Jesus the sun

Nothing wrong with making minimum wage. What are you getting at?

It was only a joke, calm down.

          • Acceptyourawfuljoketelling

oh he knew it was a joke. it was just a bad and unnecessary one. a joke tends to lead to laughter, otherwise, its what we call a bad joke.

          • CLEfan4LIFE

Learn proper grammar dumbass, its “EXCEPT” not “ACCEPT” wow I swear, ppl these days. smh.

Apparently it was somewhat of a decent joke if it got 4 likes, just saying.

  • hoodiii

The most disturbing thing for me once again this year is no mention of online franchise.  This act with EA is getting old

  • hoodiii

The most disturbing thing for me once again this year is no mention of online franchise.  This act with EA is getting old

    • Ron

why would they? offline franchise is beyond broken. its worse than is was a year before. sure they had new features, and most were broken.

heck, fix player progession before you go deal w/ o nline franchise

  • Obama

Connected careers if im guessing is going to be an online superstar mode. Maybe like up to 32 players, go to the combine together then the draft. Imagine that.

  • Alex

Lmao @ “blurring the lines between virual and reality” The EA marketing team is setting this game up for ridicule with statements like that.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

So you expect games to be exactly like real-life? You need to get out more if you couldn’t undrestand what that statement means.

      • No3456

Hey the EA employee is back!

  • CLEfan4LIFE

“A monumental change to Madden NFL gameplay creates the most authentic football experience to date, blurring the line between virtual and reality.”

Pretty sure I am over analyzing this, especially because this game is Madden, but after reading this I came away with two thoughts…

    1) First keyword “monumental” may be relating to the gameplay having some sort of player momentum, such as bigger guys aren’t as agile and can’t accelerate as fast as smaller guys, etc…

    2) Second keyword “blurring” we saw it in NCAA, the blur motion they implemented this year. This wording can maybe relate to a hint of that coming to Madden as well.

I’m most likely wrong about this, but I’m hoping I’m right because player momentum would be a feature that this game desperately needs.

    FUCK EA

    • Albiekeil

Youre being sacastic right? momentum was marketed a few years back, obviously “broken”

      • Reality

its very much alive, and working. its just overpowered, and takes over the game completely.

  • Keith.

Looking forward to Wednesday when we hear some more details about the lipstick that’s been put on the pig.

  • Mjtags11

And nothing about improving franchise mode. I really dont want to play last years horrible franchise mode.  Why cant franchise mode be like NCAA series, that is a great dynasty mode (best in the business)

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/7T64OPBBOY2OEJTLCG5C6IDJPA Curtis leon

i argree  with every thing you said .the only thing i fell out with ncca was not haveing the mulit-confence in dynasty mode. i hope that thats brought back this year. but i like the franchise mode off-line because i had a great season last year.my lions made the playoffs in madden as well.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/7T64OPBBOY2OEJTLCG5C6IDJPA Curtis leon

i hope they are not getting rid of franchise mode? pasta can you find out between wed april,25th and before the game is released please pasta. because it wiil make a not buy or buy this game? thanks pasta

    • No3456

What in the world would make you believe that?  Zero chance that a mode that was the FOCUS of M12 will ever be removed.

    • Noway

no. they will NEVER get rid of franchise mode.

if they did, they lose a large portion of the old school madden players. like myself.

ive been doing fantasy drafts since tony la russa baseball on the cpu in 93.

if they dumped franchise, i would drive to ea sports west coast office and yell at them, then proceed to not buy the game

  • 43steel43

WOW, THEY ARE SETTING UP FOR THAT BIG LIE, CANT WAIT FOR THE OVERFLOW OF VIDEO POSTS ON YOUTUBE, ”YO THIS GAME IS WACK” $65 DOWN THE DRAIN AGAIN,HA HA(EA+$65=YOU BEING BUTT F***)

  • Phil Shannon

I wonder which madden these features were from, maybe Madden 09. I love when EA resells features from old games and markets them like they are new.

you guys do realize they put words like revolutionize, innovative, and monumental to sell a game because of how dumb people are. People see those words and think this is going to be the greatest game ever, then they buy and it sucks, then the trade in value goes down because of the online pass. Then you realize EA raped you of your cash.

    • Keith.

Yep — they regurgitate a lot of the same marketing bullshit every year.  From Madden 12′s feature reveal:

“Broadcast Presentation Redefined: Experience NFL Sundays like never before with completely overhauled presentation.”

“Advanced Defensive AI: Over 100 defensive A.I. enhancements resulting in the smartest Madden defense ever. Players in zone and man coverage will properly recognize and react to plays.”

    • JwaanSmith@EA.org

Everybody but Jwaan Smith knows it. He’s on the EA GAMECHANGER payroll. There are a bunch of them in here all the trying to counter negativity against EA.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

What the hell is a gamechanger? And why is my name in your username?

        • Keith.

EA came up with the Game Changer program a couple years back to counter all of the negativity EA gets on all the different forum. Basically, they’re ball washers who are paid by EA to hype and defend EA Sports games everywhere you look. On most sites, they ID themselves as ball washers, I mean Game Changers, but here they don’t have the guts to out themselves because they know they’d get the ridicule they deserve. They’re still pretty easy to spot though — they’re always the 1 guy in 30 who will defend things like not having in-game saves or a realistic physics system. Sometimes they even end up with dev jobs at Tiburon, even though they have no actual game making experience. The whole thing is like one big scam really, unless you’re one of the ball washers too, in which case I’d encourage you to apply (I hear they’re recruiting).

          • Skopin

Sadly, there are very few games out there with a real physics system, and because of the time it would take to develop it, that won’t change anytime soon.

          • Keith.

Agreed.  But I’d add, “because of the time AND TALENT it would take to develop it, that won’t change anytime soon.”

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

The developers most likely WANT to add stuff like that. It’s the guys THEY work for that may or may not care.

          • Keith.

You can keep telling yourself that, man.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

Think about it – if your an owner of a business and you got something that’s working (selling money), you’re not gonna feel the need to really change anything, or at least make sweeping changes. EA has to get serious with NBA Live because 2k damn near knocked them out of competition. Madden won’t unless those guys give the devs a green light, or someone knocks them down in the competition. OR the sales go down.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

I don’t really defend the game. Like I said, I didn’t buy Madden 12 (after playing the demo) and I think I traded 11 in like REALLY early, or didn’t buy it. Last time I had Madden for an extended period of time was when Fitz and Polamalu were on the cover.

But I’m not gonna argue with you about a game. You wanna believe I’m an EA employee? Go ahead. People will still buy the game, including me, and you’ll be here next year with all your buds talking the same shit over and over…until the process repeats all over again. I know, sucks, right?

          • Phil Shannon

wow now you are sympathizing with us so that we will start to come around to a terrible game and buy it. You are just saying that you didn’t buy it last year so that we think you arent a ball washer, and you will buy it this year because of the new features, which probably are from previous games, or they will be so glitchy they make the game even worse, then EA will apologize for it and announce and make 5 updates so people keep the game. Then the game will still suck and people will start to sell it back

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

I’m not sympathizing with you. I never disagreed really in the first place. I only had a problem with the same couple of guys who kept posting things that were irrelevant to the article.

If im reading about the commentary changes, then I don’t wanna hear about stocks or the game engine, I wanna read the article and discuss THAT.

I don’t buy games because of features, I buy games because games are fun to play. I’m a college student, not some uptight dude who doesn’t have shit else to do but whine, bitch, and moan with a stick up their ass on a site that no one really goes to because they’d get banned anywhere else for spewing the same BS every chance they got.

And I’d rather have 5 updates then, what, 2-3 updates and a bunch of broken promises like the situation I was in with NBA 2k12.

          • Phil Shannon

you are raping this comments section get out of here

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

            yeah, how about no?

          • Keith.

Actually, year after year of declining sales, combined with stock prices falling like a rock, gives us a pretty good chance of seeing BIG CHANGES sooner than you might think.  And if Pecover wins the EA football monopoly class action lawsuit in the Fall (it’s set for trial to begin in October), then 2012 could really be a year for us to remember.

If anyone’s interested in following the Pecover class action, you can read updates as they happen right here.  Just last month, the Court appointed an expert to assist the Court in understanding and ruling upon all of the complex economic issues in the case (and ordered EA to pay 90% of his tab):

            http://dockets.justia.com/docket/california/candce/4:2008cv02820/237324/

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

That’s also funny because I didn’t even buy Madden this year (or last year I think).

    • Qh_rhema2006

I saw the words WORLD CLASS PRESENTATION. so this must mean that it should be the best any sports game has to offer including 2k5 and nba2k12. WORLD CLASS  to me means they should have a good halftime show, in-game updates from other games while you playing yours, maybe even cutting to some highlights of another game, more stat overlays, rival games should feel different from non-rival games, more intensity in the playoffs and even more in the Super Bowl, these Games should feel different from regular season games, player interviews before and after the game, this happens on Sundays EA, off season training camps (nba2k12), in depth practices during the season (7 on 7) (running back drills) (wide reciever drills) etc.  take us to the draft to actually see the player you draft get on the stage and put the hat on (nba2k12). i might have missed some stuff, please help me out fellas if i did. but when you say WORLD CLASS PRESENTATION i expect to see these feature in the game because nba2k12 has all this except cutting to other games for highlights, but this doesnt happen when you watching a nba game, but it happens alot when wtaching football on Sundays.

  • Jz

Sport games are such garbage this gen. Theres one good sportgame and thats MLB the Show and its baseball and boring as hell. NBA 2k is even garbage. The game is clunky with loading issues and framerate issues and players that slide up and down the court with super burts of quickness like super heros.

Im so sick of sport games. And sick of having to all my time on sliders just to get the game to play right. Difficulty levels are just stupid in sport games. There should be no difficulty levels. Just sliders.

    • Phil Shannon

FIFA 12 and NHL 12 have some quality, but Madden should be the best (but is terrible). Football is Americas pastime, Madden should at least be at a respectable level like FIFA and NHL, they aren’t the most popular sports here, but they are decent games. I am surprised the NFL wants EA to make a game.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

As long as it’s fun and people buy it, they don’t mind too much.

      • TheLibrarian-

FIFA is the best selling sports game in the world. It’s not as popular in America, but it has a reason to be better than Madden. I’d like to say though, that while I do enjoy FIFA, it is a very flawed game. I’d say NHL is probably the best series from EA Sports.

  • Itsdaboiblizz

blurring the line between virtual and reality is probability talkin about the kinect

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

All it’s saying is that you won’t be able to tell whether it’s a video game or real. Think Battlefield 3; obviously, they don’t have the graphics or technology in Madden that’s in BF3, but that statement alludes to the perception you get with that game if you play it.

  • AmazinsCowboys

connected careers sounds really interesting can’t wait to find out what it is

  • budsticky

A “monumental” change to gameplay that will blur the line between virtual and reality!  LOL.  The EA hype machine sure knows how to deliver the hyperbole.  Isn’t that the same sort of thing they were saying about  the vision cone and probably about 10 other changes throughout the years that have since been scrapped?

    • Skopin

Honestly, the vision cone was realistic. The problem is that there are certain things that enhance the gameplay, and certain things that are detrimental. That one was the latter.

  • Yup

    Madden=my cats shit

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FQ5KIKLT5FZW5PRA4YMP6WSSFY John O

Gotta give EA this:  Their marketing department should get a raise for all the hype they dish out for such a bland game as a finished product.

Fuck off with the fancy schmancy and give us the god damn gameplay videos.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

How about you wait till tomorrow and go get some ass.

        shut up moron

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

          Make me.

  • Nick

I wonder if connected careers will connect Superstar and Franchise somehow. It should be interesting.

I hope that along with what has been mentioned they also tweak somethings in Franchise to build on what they did last year.

  • GKage

Ha they say world-class presentation and a revolutionary Career mode? Yea right; They cant even give good DB/WR interaction. -_-

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

Ok, so don’t buy it. Bye.

      • GKage

        Great comeback! /sarcasm
Obviously if I dont like I wont buy it.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

If you know you don’t like it, then why are you here?

          • GKage

Because it’s a website and I’m free to come here if I feel like it.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

So according to your logic, you willingly come to complain on an article for a game that you already know you won’t like OR buy?

          • GKage

Yea. It’s the same logic you use in commenting on my comment even though it has nothing to do with you.

          • Jwaansmith_17

It does have something to do with me because apparently I’m an EA employee, if you haven’t heard.

          • GKage

LMAO really? Is this how EA acts with consumers? Like a smart a**? lol Oh man this is a prime example of something that can lead to bad PR people. He mad ’cause I don’t like Madden anymore and I raised a legitimate point on a dedicated sports site about WR/DB interaction. Instead of saying how EA is hard at work on fixing something like this, he gets smart with the consumer. I definitely won’t be buying it now. Not new anyways. Pasta this should be an opinion feature on your site!

          • Jwaansmith_17

Yes. I don’t really work for EA, everyone just thinks I do because I’m not as negative as some of the other guys.

I actually agree about the WR/DB interaction being bad lol. Just played the M12 demo and I realized why I didn’t buy it either. Hopefully the stuff that’s in NCAA 13 is put into Madden and actually works.

  • Disgruntled

what drives me nuts with this, is that really, id prefer ZERO new features.

just fix what is currently broken please. fix franchise as you were supposed to last year. there are like 500 issues with franchise, from small like the records wiping and the hall, to the udfa, robo players, and the cpu cutting their first rd draft pick before the season starts. forcing 32 team control

thats not even getting into issues with the absolutely ridiculous presentation, you win, and not even the announcers seem to notice, let alone the crowd, which is a real focus point id hope. gameplay is horrid, they must change ball trajectory, must change ai decision making, so the ai appears to actually be playing a game of football.

but no, lets leave everything broken, and add in some new playbook features. yahooooooo

oh and lets take the new broken franchise, and put it online, thats a good call

im a huge madden supporter as i love then fl, but cmon, last year’s game was a huge joke. they should have spent the year fixing, not adding.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

Hopefully the stuff they’re putting into NCAA 13, like the ball trajectories and crowd noise, comes over to Madden. Idk, I guess we’ll see tomorrow, right?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PRNYYXZW5CPECODQZM2VGFZKI4 Jwaan

I sort of wish they still did the rookie screenshots on the days of the 1st round. I used to like those when I was younger lol.

  • Mason Drews

Have a feeling you’re right what a shame, Micro$oft is to blame for that one though. . .Kinect is the worst thing to happen to gaming yet.

  • Uott2know

Online franchise looks to be untouched yet again.  So dumb that they can’t build on this feature.  Should be a huge and successful part of Madden, but they just devote no time to it.

Sure are setting the bar pretty high with “monumental change” wording.  The only thing I can think of that huge would be an actual physics engine.  Can’t imagine that is the case.  Probably something like authentic QB drop-backs, like in NCAA.

  • Jwaansmith_17

  • Yeah I Love Madden…So What?

For $60 a year, Madden provides me with an awesome football fix that gets me through the off season AND some serious good times playing with my friends online back home.

It’s not perfect, but it’s a video game that (I think) 90% of the time gets better every year.

  • Giantjedi

Is Franchise and Superstar mode going to be fixed? I’d also like a new mode (Besides crappy playing cards MUT) I’ve been playing same 2 modes since Madden 05
