NBA 2K13 All-Star Weekend Content Being Made Available as DLC

The All-Star Weekend content for NBA 2K13 is finally being made available to those who didn’t obtain the game in early October when codes were provided from some retailers with pre-orders. Arriving on XBLA and PSN on Tuesday the All-Star Weekend pack will go for $5 and includes the All-Star Game, Slam Dunk Contest, 3 Point Shootout, and Rising Stars Challenge. Once downloaded those events also become part of Association and MyCareer modes.

Though the contracts can vary in most cases pre-order incentive content involves 45 or 60 day exclusivity windows in order to establish the value of those offers. After that time expires the publisher can offer the content through other means. In this case 2K Sports decided to hold it for three months and the reasoning why is unclear. Once it wasn’t offered earlier the assumption became that it would be pushed out closer to the actual All-Star Weekend, in order to take advantage in terms of promotion, but instead it arrives in a time of decreased relevancy with well over a month until the mid-February league showcase takes place.

For anyone considering this the dunk contest is fun if you dont take it too seriously (the guitar hero controls) but the 3pt contest is terrible. Might be worth the five bucks to someone but might not.

The 3 point contest is rough unless you get the right rhythm. It’s not great, but it’s good if you can get the feel down. But it doesn’t have great controls.

The dunk contest actually frustrates me more. I get the buttons all right and the guy misses a dunk – I get some wrong and he makes the dunk. I don’t get it.

are they going to update the uniforms for the rising stars challenge?…..the plain jerseys aren’t going to cut it…..smh.

I didn’t pre-order the game but still got picked as a starter for the Rising Stars Challenge (love the presentation and audio for this) and the All Star Game (rode the bench most of the game) during the first year of MyCareer. Didn’t see the 3 point contest or slam dunk contest, though — maybe you only have to d/l the DLC if you don’t get picked? Either way, 2k’s financials should see a nice bump this quarter. The game’s selling great (again) and even I have already spent $10-$15 building up MyPlayer. IMO, they’ve handled the paid-DLC stuff pretty smartly.

You can also follow Sprite on Twitter. It seems they’re giving away codes a couple times a week to the first 200 people that tweet at the specific time.
