Universal announced today that Jurassic Park IV will release on June 13, 2014. That the fourth film in the franchise is on the way does not come as surprise, producer Steven Spielberg talked about it happening in the next 2-3 years back at Comic-Con, but that release date means it’ll need to enter production fairly soon.
The latest draft of the script has been turned in by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and the film is set to be shot in 3D. Presumably the human-dinosaur hybrid assassin take on the franchise that almost got made has been scrapped completely. A director for JPIV has not yet been signed. The original Jurassic Park from 1993 is hitting theaters again on April 5 in 3D to mark the 20 year anniversary.
