With the current generation essentially now having come to a close for sports titles – there will still be releases on the 360 and PS3 for years but they’ll no longer be of primary development focus – it allows for an opportunity to look back on it as a whole before next-gen gets here in November. The genre has gone from offering wide variety to being very limited in scope during those eight years with only a handful of sports games still alive.
Over the coming weeks I’ll be kicking off a tournament-style voting competition to determine the best sports game of the generation. Feel free to note some of your favorites in the comments. That includes both sim and arcade style games from the 360, PS3, and Wii. It’ll be taken into consideration when forming the entire field for the voting process.
