Rumors of a football game from the makers of Out of the Park Baseball and Franchise Hockey Manager have been essentially confirmed today after “leaking” information to Operation Sports and then promoting it on their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Beyond the Sideline Football appears then to be the third PC sim management game from the developer.

Beyond the Sideline will feature real NFL players and teams, real colleges and actual prospects to draft by name, all the same rules and regulations of the league, a 2D engine to show action on the field (calling plays and watching them run), and all the management and scouting abilities that would be expected from a GM. [UPDATE] Targeting summer 2015 release.

The news comes shortly after initial details for Out of the Park Baseball 15 which includes for the first time a 3D engine that will eventually lead to on-field animations as the game expands further from its text-based origins.

so…does this officially mean that EA Sports no longer has exclusive rights to the NFL brand?

Not related. A text-based game does not require a license (same standards as being able to use player names in fantasy sports).

So you’ll get city names but not team name and logos – surely they’ll be available to download though like in OOTP. All real players can be included though as long as there isn’t likenesses accompanying them.

Correction – You DO get team names, but you will need to download the logos. But all OOTP games come with a server link for a mod to download all logos, facegens, etc.

    Goodbye Madden

    • bltzkrieg666

Tell me how that works out for you..LOL

      • Jarod

Almost all I do on Madden is a simulated franchise, so this would actually work out well for me. That is, if this game delivers.

    • CSaint

      I lol’d

  • Luke Randazzo

Wow this sounds awesome. I wonder if legends will also be included.

    • bpfenway

If it is anything like OOTP they will have a historical mode and have every player that has ever played.

      • Luke Randazzo

Yeah that would be cool, running a sort of legends league. Or you could just pick a year in NFL history and play from there.

        • pacoheadley

Historical leagues will not be available in the first version, although they should be expected as early as the second version of the game. The OOTP fanbase is huge on historical play, so they know how important it is to get it in there.

          • Luke Randazzo

            Ok sounds good.

      ROTFLMAO

  • Pacoheadley

Being both a huge football fan and a huge OOTP Baseball fan, I went NUTS over this news. I never thought they’d actually try for football, but I am so excited for this.

  • CSaint

I love OOTP, really want them to do a basketball game version !

  • Mark Britten

Looks like it could be good. I’ll certainly buy it.

I’m excited but want to see more before I get TOO excited. The hockey game isn’t nearly as good as baseball, so I’d like to see which one it’s closer to.

    • Mark Britten

The hockey game is version 1. The baseball game is version 14 (with 15 coming out in April).

      • Beelzebot44

I understand that, but that doesn’t change the fact that the hockey game isn’t as good as the baseball one.

Some of the biggest issues I have with it are things they could/should have imported over from baseball anyway. The menus, editing, scouting, etc. They should have just taken the baseball game and all the advances and refining and changed it to hockey. Obviously changes would need to be made, but it would have been better if they just took the interface and features from baseball instead of seemingly starting from scratch.
