Announced last night at the NHL Awards Show, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins has been selected for the cover of NHL 15. Whether that selection was made by the fans or EA Sports who noted in the terms they could override results and choose who they wanted anyway, he beat out the Canadians’ P.K. Subban in the finals of the competition.

NHL 15 is due out September 9 and will feature a new commentary team, NBC presentation, enhanced physics, and next-gen visuals on Xbox One and PS4. Pre-orders will receive $15 worth of Ultimate Team packs as a bonus. An “Ultimate Edition” of the game will also be available for $10 more that will include $40 in Ultimate Team content.

This is the game that’s going to make me buy a next gen console.

I am going to replace the cover perhaps. I don’t think any of the athletes in the contest deserved the cover except Phil Kessel. The dude had an amazing year and fought cancer several years ago. He deserved my vote and I gave it to him. I’ll use a custom Phil Kessel one.

All of these guys would have been a great choice for the cover. Who would you have picked over Bergeron, or Subban? Bergeron is one of the best two way players in the game (I personally believe only second to Pavel Datsyuk) and Subban is an emerging super star for the Canadiens. Both players would have been fantastic choices.

Neither. Subban has a terrible attitude. I don’t like the Bruins since they’re too dirty as a team.

Fair enough, as a Bruins fan I would look like a hypocrite if I tried to defend them from that label, but Bergeron doesn’t deserve to be lumped in with that discussion because he is a hard nosed but clean player. I don’t mind that the Bruins play on the edge, because when they don’t they are outskilled, so their toughness is needed, unlike a team like the Blackhawks, Kings, or Penguins who can win by having skill (or in Pittsburgh’s case putting on diving clinics from time to time against the better teams).
