To go along with the early release of feature information for NHL 16, EA Sports has been answering some questions related to the game through the “Ask NHL” page on the official website. Some responded to include the addition of every team’s mascot, hats being thrown on the ice when a player records a Hat Trick, and there being no Online Shootouts mode.

Of course they’re cherry-picking those they want to answer and avoiding ones they’d rather not. In that latter category is whether or not the game will allow users to edit players – functionality that was lost in with NHL 15.

As evidenced last year in the run up to NHL 15, if the publisher won’t confirm or deny something is in the game while addressing softball or obvious inquiries, they’re doing so because they recognize the response will be received poorly. The safe thing then at this point is to assume there will be no Edit Player feature in NHL 16.

The editing of players may not be something a majority of people utilize but it’s important to the more hardcore group who look to make tweaks in order to increase realism. The NHL series has struggled to deliver proper player differentiation, and has yet to provide sufficient or consistent roster updates, so not having the ability to make changes is made even more frustrating.
