Improvements to gameplay for NBA 2K16

Posted September 2nd, 2015 at 8:30 am

NBA 2K16 releases three weeks from Friday but there is still quite a bit of information still to be revealed about the game. Today 2K Sports released a video going over, for the first time, what has been done for gameplay this year.

The main theme is the “Living World”, with improved atmosphere, smarter players, coaches that actually make adjustments, situational movement, physics-driven collisions, a new post-game, new foot-planting technology, and three dedicated buttons to make different types of passes.

All I have ever wanted was accurate crowd reactions to game situations. For some reason 2K and EA never took this in consideration, and I feel that if this addressed, all sports games would be more enjoyable. No reason for me to be playing a game in NBA2K15 and it sounds like I’m playing in a practice gym. It kills the game experience for me. Maybe it’s just me. How do you guys feel about that?

    • Atown88

I agree. 2k15 was so hit or miss with this. Sometimes the crowd would be live, and other (most) times, they’d sit there oblivious to what’s going on. It was also pretty stupid to hear a crowd roar but watch every single one of them sitting with the hands in their laps…

This game is gonna be great…can’t wait very excited with all the added features and improvements to the game play ..

2k is always great been like that since 1999. Thank you Captain obvious.

      • Dounte

Fuck outta here…. 2K has always been an children’s book compared to old school basketball games and as far as live go NBA LIVE 14 ( yep ) had more authentic play then any NBA 2K that ever came out!!!!

        • MoneyMayweather

My dude I’m gonna need you to step back gimmie fifty feet and lower your tone. what does Live have to do with this fruitcakes captain obvious opinion.

          • Dounte

It’s pretty obvious I used the wrong reply box gangsta??? calm down killa….

          • MoneyMayweather

Pasta, you left out the accompanying Blog, which contains a ton of information as well.

Skopin, it looks like they’ve added a button for hand-off passes, which I’m sure you’re glad to hear. From the Blog:

    “New passing controls:

A/CROSS = Best Pass (gives you the best pass for the situation you’re in)

B/CIRCLE = Tap for Bounce Pass, Double Tap for Flashy Pass, Hold for dribble pitch/handoff (hold to bring the selected receiver toward the ball, release to pass or handoff if close enough)

Y/TRIANGLE = Tap for Lob/Overhead Pass, Double Tap for Alley-Oop, Hold for Lead to Basket pass (hold to make the receiver cut toward the hoop, release to pass… awesome addition!)

    • Skopin

Thanks. Saw that over on OS. I like the idea of being able to choose the type of pass, but I do wish they could have done it using modifiers and the right stick.

That does make me wonder what their pick and roll controls will be, since B/O is now being used for passing.

I never buy into what devs say. If your game can do what you say, show me and then analyze what just happened. I can make lofty claims and follow the statement by saying in order for x to happen it must fall into these criteria. TALK, TALK, TALK, TALK, TALK, TALK that’s all I hear and no visual to back it up.

  • Keith.

It’s insane how many things have been added/are discussed in the Blog. THAT’S how you get to using all available 50GB of a disc.

Personally, I like the sound of these:

“Speaking of onball defense, we’ve also added a new Dynamic Defense Assist feature. The harder you press the Intense-D trigger, the more assist we give you as an onball defender. I can’t overstate how much this feature improves the ability to play defense online. There’s also a slider, so you can tweak the strength yourself or turn it off.”

“Ball handling saw its share of upgrades. Lots of new content to freshen up cuts, first steps, and overall movement… as well as plenty of ambient, bring the ball upcourt dribbles which the sim community loves.”

“And last but not least, no 2K basketball game would be complete without a massive content refresh. Last I checked, we were somewhere in the neighborhood of 9,000-10,000 new animations. So you’ll be seeing some new stuff for sure.”

It’s amazing to see what a talented dev team can do. It’s like comparing the performance of a Ferrari to a VW Bug. This is just amazing to me. The things that people complain about involving NBA 2k clearly shows that they do not play Madden.

  • Skopin

Everything here sounds amazing. If they can actually deliver on it, the game is a definite buy. I would love to see some of this in action.

  • The Great Leon

I hope the coaching adjustments is true. Every team was predictable in a way because you knew the minutes someone was going to play. They didn’t take in the fact that a bench player was hot. Also the time outs need to be mixed up, the formula was cpu takes 1-2 time outs in the 1st qtr, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and sometimes 1 or none in the 4th.

  • Dounte

Is it just me or the screenshot above looks like The Planet of The Apes 2 LEADER & and the ugly one KOBO????? I just saw that shit the other day!! Lol ( Great Movie ) by the way, I don’t believe I’m about to say this but this shit looks good!!! This is the type of shit S.Obrein and the rest of them stupid muthafuckas is supposed to be doing!!! It breaks my heart that EA would simply allow this bullshit to happen to NBA LIVE…… I’m buying this, f the dumb 💩

  • Jay (The Truth)

All sounds great, in a vacuum. My judgement of it will come down to whether or not they’ve addressed any of the legacy issues 2K has had for years. New animations sound great, in a vacuum. Means nothing if 2K continues to be a game largely devoid of real time gameplay. Everything largely is predetermined and on rails. To their credit, the bare bones of what they have is very good. Interested to see if they can put it all together. Will be more important going forward, since their graphics engine has obviously already reached its limit, thus the graphics will be less of a sell.

    • Dounte

Well said, to dig this deep only puts my wallet up so of course if shit is the same, it’s a no go for any one who speaks basic English!

  • JB-Stoner42

2k always come through. Hey EASPORTS, call 2k studios and ask for some help on how to create a true SIM sports game. EA is so pathetic.

    • MoneyMayweather

Did EA fuck your wife? or something? Why so hostile towards the great electronic arts?

      • JB-Stoner42

Ea is the arrogant big bully on the block. They’re voted one of the worse companies in America, so it’s not only me who think that way.

      • JB-Stoner42
      • Gigs

He could be into that. I was surprised how many guys actually like watching their wife get fucked by someone else.

EA might have pissed in his Cheerios. I don’t think anyone likes piss in their cereal; especially the grainy kind that soaks up your pissmilk as well as Cheerios.

  • Michael Hawj

wow those things in gameplay look amazing, can’t wait to play it on September 25 : Friday but i preload it on September 23 is Wednesday. Go Warriors !!!!!!!!! Go Curry !!!!

    • Dounte

This is what I’ll encounter online in NBA 2K?… I think I’ll pass!

      • Michael Hawj

lol you missing out on this.. i don’t care about online ranked matches. i don’t play that kind of thing. i am more into My Career, My gm and My league

        • Dounte

Invite me to your My League or help me get into one you participate in….. That’s all I’m willing to try!!!

  • ShitIconSays
