End of Year Community Awards: Best Gameplay of 2016

Posted December 8th, 2016 at 9:30 am

With 2016 coming to a close it’s time to start looking back on the developments that have taken place and acknowledge the various efforts in sports gaming. To start is the first category in the annual Community Awards. You can check out the winners from previous years here.

The categories to look forward to include Community Sports Game of the Year, Best New or Non-Yearly Sports Game, Best Mobile Game, Best Racing Game, Best Online Play, Best Presentation, Best Franchise Mode, Best Career Mode, Best Post-Release Support, Best New Feature, and Best Team-Building Mode. All winners will be announced late this month!

First up is Best Gameplay, a category dominated by NBA 2K with the series coming off four consecutive wins. Its standing appears more shaky this year however which could provide the opening needed for Pro Evolution Soccer or MLB The Show to finally break through. All three candidates are well-regarded for their authentic gameplay and attention to detail.

  • Keith.

Great list, Pasta, but awfully tough to decide between these 3.

    • SockfulOfNickels

It’s too bad it has to be limited to three choices but I don’t think anyone could argue with these three titles as far as gameplay.

  • Luke Randazzo

Giving it to PES. While The Show is solid, there are still some kinks to work out, especially when it comes to fielding and bunting. 2K felt like it took a step in the wrong direction this year, as I feel like 2K16 was much more realistic. PES’ gameplay is spectacular, and it captures the pacing of soccer perfectly.

    Obviously PES for RICH

I cheated on votng, sort of. I voted for MLB The Show 16 although I play MLB The Show 15 because that’s where my created players are. I do have MLB The Show 16 also.
I don’t like NBA 2K17 for PS4. I play NBA 2K15 for PS3 because of the Association mode… and that’s where my created players are. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b46d052c0b89bda8209af6953596206bdf2c8a66a3d3ecac11177f40b271d543.jpg

Please take NBA 2K off that list, it doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near those other games listed.

    • Keith.

Got my vote. And I LOVE The Show and PES.

  • NELL86

If this was for arcade sports games 2k would win easily

Considering that football is America’s sport, again EA is a disgrace to sports gaming, since Madden isn’t on the list. Over 25 years of making a single game and it’s far from being a good game. It’s stale and boring.
