NBA 2K18 vs NBA Live 18 Player Face Comparison, Part One

Posted October 3rd, 2017 at 8:30 am

Whether it be through varied scanning techniques, differing levels of access to specific individuals, or their respective graphical engines, competing sports video games tend to win with representations of certain players but certainly not all of them. In the past with the basketball games NBA 2K had the clear edge according to fans but NBA Live had some respectable showings. Most recently when conducted between NBA 2K15 and NBA Live 15 it was the former that won for near 75% of the players that were examined.

Now it’s time to look at NBA 2K18 and NBA Live 18 which have both boasted improvements to visuals and face scanning in the last three years. Polls are open now for the first eight players. Two more sets will go up in the coming days with results analyzed late next week.

  • bze

    lol at NBA Live Dirk

    • MoneyMayweather

      Better than 2k’s dirk

      • Ryan Schechtman

        Both are pretty bad.

    • Skopin

Neither game has ever had a good Dirk face. Not sure why they can’t get him right lol.

      • Just a guy

He might refuse to do a face scan. Who knows.

  • Lucas

Both John Wall renders are so bad. Wtf.

    • Skopin

They’re just bad stills, caught when they were making weird faces. Both games actually have pretty good Wall faces.

  • Skopin

Pasta, you should post a real picture of each player between the games so there is a constant to compare them to. Also, try to get pictures where they’re straight-faced and their mouths aren’t hanging open. It’s especially bad in both John Wall pictures; he looks better in both games than what those show.

  • MoneyMayweather

2k’s westbrook looks terrible for shame he’s our league mvp. 2k get it right Chris Manning.

  • KcKing2

Are the tops 2K or Live?

    • 2K is on top, Live bottom

      • Rhoades

Should’ve switched them randomly to prevent fanboys from each side voting for their own game.

        • Rich

Pretty easy to tell which is which once you know. Live is clearly more Photo-realistic compared to 2k. Not saying their depiction of the players is better but Live clearly look more detailed and life like.

          • Rhoades

Absolutely, they have lighting and skin texture down. Never realize how clay-like 2K looks until you see them compared side-by-side.

    • MoneyMayweather

  • WilsonRamos

2k renders skin so badly looks like plastic

    • Ryan Schechtman

I haven’t noticed it looking this bad when actually playing, though. Maybe because I don’t have the Live models right there to compare.

      • SockfulOfNickels

Same here… these stills really make them look awful and I’ve always liked them in game. Live’s needs less excessive sweat effects but I chose the Live version for most.

  • Antoine Byrd

Dirk looking like a creeper in Live

    • MoneyMayweather

    • Zach

He looks like he just took a crap in his pants in that pic

  • Ryan Schechtman

Live Dirkface is some nightmare fuel.

  • Big Sho

I would say that Live has a better representation of the players’ hair. 2K has better representation of the face.

    • Malcolm James II

  • Hoops

    2K players are cross-eyed.
