MLB 08: The Show first full game

Here is the first recorded full game from MLB 08: The Show and it features the Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals. It felt like this game would go on forever and with little to no action as the pitching was dominant from both sides. However the game does end in dramatic fashion.

Being the first play through of a real game this year I made some unintentional goofs. I didn’t retreat a runner back to first base because I thought it would do it automatically, accidentally subbed in a cold pitcher, and accidentally attempted a steal of third base. Just a matter of getting comfortable with the game as those things were my fault.

Continue on to view the videos as broken down in four segments.

two-run walk off homerun, but the final score was 1-0. im embarrassed that im asking this because i feel like i should know the answer, but if this was a real game, wouldnt the final be 2-0? i know all you need is the one run to win, but it was a homerun

haha thats funny matt, i noticed the same thing. he did miss first base.

^that too. lol. and how did patterson get credited with the win if he only pitched 6 innings and wasn’t the pitcher of record. King should get the win.

Good job on the videos…is there any way you could get some of the Yankees? I would like to get a good idea of what their player models look like, how the stadium looks, etc. I would appreciate it.

It looked like Belliard clipped first base with his right toe. Anyway, can you get some Yankee clips up (w/ Phil Hughes pitching?)plz! Thanks man, keep up the great work!

Look right after the Player of the Game screen and you’ll see:

    W: Ray King

I’m not sure if Pasta got his yet, but I don’t think anyone got their copy of 2K8 yet.

listen to what the announcers say about the player of the game. “the bullpen came through and got him the victory.”

I can’t decide which game to get….I was thinking about getting both just for the hell of it, but that would probably be a huge waste. Any suggestions? Go Yankees

How about the Indians at home with seattle away

    Thanks

I think the walkoff runs not counting is a known bug unfortunately. I hope they could get something simple like that patched.

if online play is important to you, right now the only choice appears to be 2K8.

if you’re more offline and/or into the Road to the Show mode, The Show is the way to go from what we know right now.

Unless you can hold off for some 2K8 impressions since no one really knows how it turned out yet.

Thanks for the comment, I have the past two 2k games, but have been thinking that The Show may be the way to go. Honestly I never really played any online with the past 2k games. I’m more into just playing a full season on my own. There were a few annoyances that I hope have changed from 2k, such as the constant home run robbing and diving catches from the outfielders. The only thing really holding me back is the fact I prefer playing on the 360 compared to that of the Ps3, but The Show does seem pretty realistic so who knows. In two quick demo plays on The Show I’ve only managed like two hits, and it seems kind of hard getting used to the controls compared to 2k, but with the changes 2k8 is supposedly undergoing that might be an issue as well. If I could see some videos on the Yankees it would help to make a judgment.

The walk off run bug is simply unacceptable in any video baseball game on any system. Sony should be ashamed of themselves.

I was not liking the fact that the computer fouled everything off in the strikezone either. Add this to the poor online, and it looks like another year without a truley great baseball game.

Nice to see someone record a game at the New Nats stadium. I will be there, first row, road bullpen on opening night vs. the Braves. One thing I’m a tad disappointed in is it appears the trees in left are done better in MLB 2K8 than in this game. That is really going to be the signature of this beautiful park.

Good to see a Nats win though :)

what bug are you guys talking about??

If you think its a bug that the game ended 1-0 and not 2-0 your wrong.

Anytime a game is in extra innings the first run to cross the plate is the only one that counts. The game was over as soon as the runner on first came across the plate so the 2nd run doesnt count or matter

Hey, I have a Xbox 360 and I’m thinking of selling it to get a PS3 purely because of this game. What do you think about that? I don’t have money to throw around but seems to me it may be best for me since The Show and MLB2k8 will be available. I don’t plan to buy 2k but if ever wanted both would be possible. Do you think The Show is the better game hands down? Worth the trouble of replacing my 360 with a PS3?

  23. RaptorQuiz on March 3rd, 2008 11:41 pm Quote

metsfan96 - UHM, NO. You’re completely wrong. The official final score in such a situation should be 2-0.

  24. Phil on March 4th, 2008 1:15 am Quote

Yeah, unless Belliard leaves the basepaths and forfeits his right to run the bases (ala Robin Ventura a few years ago), all runs count.

To go one step further, lets say Belliard hits a double, but the runner scores before Belliard reaches second. It’s still a double in this scenario (unless the runner was on third), because you have to give the batter credit for all the bases he runs out that the winning run legs out as well, granted that the runner bothers to run to second in that scenario (if he doesn’t, it’s a single).

Winning runs do create tricky rulings, let’s hope both Sony and 2K get both these rules right.

    Bumble-

If The Show ‘08 is anything like previous versions, there are tons of sliders that can be set to alter things like the computer fouling off too many pitches. FWIW, in the demo version, I routinely struck out more than a batter per inning. The Show last season also had an option to download other people’s slider settings, and even ranked them sim to arcade, most popular download, etc…

I’m going to wait until I get my version in a few minutes to judge the online play. I know most major media outlets don’t focus on online play in sports games, but I find it odd that IGN would say the online is clearly BETTER while PP said it’s clearly WORSE. I’ll see for myself and let everyone know.
