EA Sports planning two new IPs

In a recent interview, EA Sports VP of global marketing Todd Sitrin mentioned that there are two brand new IPs in development in addition to the the previously announced Facebreaker. It is unknown when the remaining new franchises will be revealed.

My guesses would fall with the rumored MMA game and an NHL Street (which I actually fished for the level of interest on in early January). EA has shown an eagerness recently to provide accessibility and reach the casual crowd. What do you guys think may be in the works at EA? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

i would like to see another ncaa baseball game, but i would be just as happy with a mma game. the online fights would be amazing(as long as no lag issues)

Another fighting game would be good maybe even ufc, even though the wwe game is amazig people don’t get it because of storylines. If ea could get the and 1 license they could make something nice of that

hay pasta, isn’t there already a MMA(UFC) fighting game in the works. What company is creating that game.

yeah EA won’t be able to get UFC, license belongs to THQ

one possibility I’ve seen floated is EliteXC

I wonder if EA will ever do another NCAA Baseball game? I loved the ones in the past.

Doubt it. There really isn’t a market for it. They used the previous MVP engine because they didn’t have any other use for it. It would cost too much to build an NCAA game from scratch that the low sales couldn’t justify.

    Intellectual properties. They’re original ideas/franchises.

I would really enjoy a roller hockey type NHL Street game. With EA’s solid controls for NHL 08, put into roller hockey with a bit of over the top play, that would be great.

Even tack on online team play, with human goalies. That’d be good.

There’s only two games I want from EA… and those I’ve been waiting for 15 years for them to make sequels…

    MUTANT LEAGUE!

They made 2 games right around the first Madden games were showing up in the early nineties. Mutant League Hockey and Mutant League Football. Both games were made on the current Madden/NHL engines of the time. I can’t believe they haven’t made either since then since it would be a relatively easy “mod” to their current games. I really hope these are what they have in mind.

None of the “Street” or “casual” or “hip hop” games they’ve put out have I ever cared about. But the Mutant games were just fun. PLUS they had their own season modes. A franchise mode of either would be a trip. Especially since one of the objects was to keep your players ALIVE to begin with!

I know that somebody is putting out a Blood Bowl game out later this year based on the Warhammer world. That one may be similar. Maybe EA is planning on wiping out that competition as well.

MMA looks like a probability but only if they can get some big names. Apparently a lot of fighters are leaving UFC for other fighting organizations so maybe you’re right about EliteXC. I really like F1 video games but I think SCEA has the license for that. I just hope it’s not another football game. There are enough of those.

They should crank out at least two more titles using the NFL license. I barely count the underwhelming NFL Tour which should be scrapped entirely or reinvented.

they should just make a NFL Street 4, thats exactly like Street 2 with better graphics, the new NFL rosters once the season starts, and for 360 and PS3…NFL Tour gets mad boring, and street 2 was such a good game.

    MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL:

    MUTANT LEAGUE HOCKEY:

Trust me… all of those Street, Tour, arcade games are the same. This is something truly innovative. Despite the goofy mutilations and such.. there actually was an intelligent level of strategy that was needed in both games.

Maybe they are developing a new F1 game? I also like the idea of NHL street, it sounds like a potentially enjoyable franchise.

    Hey Pasta,
Could they make an MLB game exclusively for the 360? Just wondering seeing as The Show is exclusively on Sony. This would be a great idea if possible. I am itching to find out how the MVP franshise would have looked on next gen. It probably would have been amazing!

Nope, 2K has the 3rd party license. Which means only Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo could make an MLB game.

I doubt they’ll do anything baseball related. They’re probably waiting on buying out Take Two and bringing back MVP.

I remember having a lot of fun playing the nhl hitz games or w.e they were called so that’d be cool if they brought that game back.

I’d love to see an EliteXC game w/ noneother than Kimbo Slice on the cover. There are a number of UFC guys jumping to Elite lately and they also have the NBC license for primetime! And yes, it’s about TIME FOR A DAMN COLLEGE LAX GAME!!! Been saying that for years, especially if they used NHL’s shot stick…

  23. Eski on March 13th, 2008 7:37 am Quote

Personally, I would like to see an NCAA game that included lacrosse and hockey, although I am certain that this would only appeal to a specific market.

The return of the Mutant League would be cool but this would not be a new IP.

I pray for no more “Street” games. They have been somewhat weak.

I wish EA would go back to its roots and break out a Dr. J vs. Larry Bird game with today’s consoles while including the original. This could also include Jordan vs. Bird. Two sweet games that featured the best players of all time….

Pasta, also let EA know that people want an NCAA baseball game on the next-gen consoles…

  24. Ivy'sDad on March 13th, 2008 9:01 am Quote

It’s fine that they want to come up with two new IP’s but how about they forget that and just work to improve Madden and give us the football equivalent of MLB 08 The Show. They have the resources, please EA look at what SCEA did with their baseball game. I would love to see such an effort put into a football game.

  25. leglockfan on March 13th, 2008 10:00 am Quote

I highly doubt them going after EliteXC because of its relative unknown nature. EliteXC just signed a deal with CBS and that could play into whether or not EA picks it up… but I bet the safe money is with something else. College Baseball again would be a safe bet and no clue about the other

THQ looks like they have a great jump with the UFC game. At least from their demo vid. About time another good MMA game comes out though… One person can only play so much PrideFC lol

  26. bhurst99 on March 13th, 2008 10:58 am Quote

An NHL street game could be a blast if it is done correctly. It would actually be stupid not to do one since they already have a proven next gen engine for hockey. The other IP is certainly a mystery. Something tells me it is not MMA. I wouldn’t be surprised if would deal with a sport that is popular outside North America as some of EA’s comments seem to suggest they want to increase their international market.

^^^^like what cricket, or another rugby game.

  28. BustyBuffet on March 13th, 2008 5:08 pm Quote

I was thinking rugby but it seemed far fetched since it’s not really a “brand new” IP. They have already done rugby before. Cricket is possible but I don’t think it’s popular enough in countries where video games are played a lot.

  29. SportsGamer24 on March 13th, 2008 7:09 pm Quote

I would love to see them get into the IRL and make a game to pair with NASCAR. Give another alternative to the race fans. But MMA seems most logical, it is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
