NCAA Football player model comparison

March 23, 2008 by pastapadre

With the release of two new screenshots from NCAA Football 09 came a description of how some of the character models have been improved. Some people have noticed differences while others have stated that they look the same.

There was a huge upgrade from 07 to 08 and because of that this year the adjustments are going to be a little more subtle. The exception might be the lineman who they’ve apparently worked on a great deal.

So using EA Sports World I went into 08 and took some screenshots of the same players in similar poses. These comparisons should accent some of the changes that have been made. Click the thumbnails below to view the images.

    Nice job once again Pasta.

You can see the veins and arteries running up and down the Southern Miss players arm in 09. In 08, his arms just look bland. Looks good.

Now that you show it to me and put it that way…I actually see the difference and it is a decent improvement given how great the visuals were last year

Just by looking at the picture on the left for Southern Miss, you would have never guessed that he was a QB. In the one on the right he is slimmed down and doesn’t look like a fullback.

Def looks more lifelike. Great work pasta.

Huge improvement with proportion and ratios.. but, more veins in the arms.. really? I would have gone the opposite way.

Let’s hope the 18 year old linemen lose the 60 year old man pot bellies.

looks good but please put more activity on the sidelines official entrances n warmups 4 big schools and I hope they please put clear visors back on the game

    Steve, shut up.

The shots look good, but we all know the game will be the same thing as it was the past 2 yrs, mediocre at best.

I take it you’re a very calm man Steve? People are just voicing their opinions, they didn’t seem to be out of line with their comments in my opinion.

Comparison shots look really good and I’m looking forward to they first videos we get.

i think everyone just needs to calm down ;)

but seriously i know it can be a slippery slope when adding the ridiculous amounts of veins and whatnot but have you seen college athletes up close? (some) really do have ridiculous amounts of veins popping out, better than plastic looking people i say.

Graphics look great, but I had to comment on the fact that steve decided he had to quote 3 separate people, and ask them to calm down, when there was no sense of them being excited, they simply stated their opinion.

    made me lol

he must be bored, and yes I must be bored too.

    Pasta-

You need to come right out and ask these guys at EA when they send these pictures out about what they are adding into the game.

Specifically- Alternate Jerseys? Refs on field? Field Goal nets? College Atmosphere? Correct Equipment (clear visors)? Bowl Atmosphere (NO generic endzones)? Bowl patches?

These questions need to be addressed instead of getting information on “new” player models. I will say it again, did’t EA give us new player models last year and then cite that fact as to why they could not implement alternate jerseys? So I take it we won’t get alternates again because there are new player models.

i seriously felt that some of you guys were out of line and needed to CALM DOWN. do i sense a little tension in that post?

Can definitly see some difference in those player models. Good job on the screen cap, Pasta. He looks less squatty overall. The different lighting really shows on that model as well.

Of course, screen shots always look good, so we will have to see how it looks once the players are actually in motion.

Maybe you use “calm down” differently then most of us, but explain how anyone was “out of line”. People merely shared their opinions and I don’t think saying “last thing, they still look like pastic” is really “out of line”.

idk why we’re all telling each other to calm down. you guys sound like retards. These comments are supposed to be about the video game NCAA FOOTBALL 2009. So stick to the subject. btw, the pics look great, the video from a week or two ago looked great. Can’t wait to try out the new controls. Hopefully they’re added into Madden 09 also.

I like Bumble’s point. For someone like me who really only plays with one team, I’d like to use more alternate/throwback jerseys. I love how they say “if it’s in the game…” and don’t even have visible refs?!! 5 things NCAA and Madden need.
    1) on field referees
    2) as many alt/thrbk uniforms as possible
    3) fumble pile-ons (w/refs dramatically signaling possesion)
75% of fumbles are at the bottom of a pile
    4) redo FG kicking and FG blocking somehow
    5) add more gadget plays (ie. reverses, dbl screens, etc)

But maybe that’s only because I’ve calmed down.

The best part was that he had absolutely nothing to add to the conversation, I think Steve needs to get fired up a little.

Pasta- I understand where you are coming from, but come on! This is year 3 of this game dropping on “next gen” consoles, and it seems like every year all we hear about is how they’ve changed the player models, and made them more realistic, etc.

How come it’s the same spiel every year? I thought last year they changed the player models around for good, and I believe they even were quoted saying since they finally nailed the models in 08, they could move forward with details and gameplay in 09….so umm how come they are changing the player models again? And how come no one else has addressed the issue of them claiming the 08 “new” models were the reason they could not include alternate jerseys? Does anyone else feel like EA has been constantly lying to us when it comes to NCAA Football ever since it made the jump from ps2/xbox?

Pasta, I respect your opinions, but you need to take a step back from your blind love for EA. The tough questions for the NCAA football franchise need to be asked–because this series has been a tremendous disappointment for a lot of the hardcore fans (myself included). Let’s just put it this way- my ps2 version of NCAA should not include more COLLEGE FOOTBALL content then my supposedly amazing $10 more xbox 360 copy. And what is going to be an even worse sin is that the Wii ps2 port will probably contain more in terms of atmosphere, content, teams, etc, than the ps3/360 copies…

But hey, at leatwe’ll have awesome player models right?

  34. Details on March 24th, 2008 7:18 pm Quote

    Bumble14 has it right.

Gameplay, animation, and overall details are more important than player models. “You can see veins in their arms!” Um…great. How about seeing refs on the field? And yes, I will run that issue into the ground.

Every year, the player models are touted. Meanwhile, LBs are magically drifting to intercept passes thrown to receivers fifteen yards behind them.

  35. chris on March 24th, 2008 8:24 pm Quote

I wish EA was as tired of people complaining about refs, alternate unis, and FG nets as I was cuz they would just put them in the game to stop it all.

Honestly, I didnt even notice these things until they were pointed out be someone, but I can definitely see the reason for the complaints. It’s ridiculous to have something in previous gen and but not on the 360 or PS3. I figured they could do more with the 360 than just upgrading the graphics as well. Fumble pile ups or stuff like that. Thought there would be more interactions. Players with teammates, opponents, and refs. Not much life on the sidelines either. Things like that, I just thought would also improve along with the graphics but alas. I’m pretty happy with the gameplay tho. There’s always things to improve but I feel they’ve done a good job for the most part.

The graphics are pretty nice tho

  36. Craig on March 25th, 2008 5:37 am Quote

I’m looking forward to seeing the veins on the linebacker’s arms as he returns his 3rd interception for a TD in the first five minutes.

Everyone wants clear visors, poly-ethylene shoelaces and angora sweater vests for the players but they then forget the game is just unplayable the majority of the time.

Gush all you want about improved helmet lighting - just make it play life real football, k thx.

  37. Dre on March 25th, 2008 6:24 am Quote

Well EA is on the right step to making NCAA Football a great game like it was on the last-gen system. I hope they don’t drop the ball an make it bland an the same as all the other games on the next-gen consoles.

definetly a good fix hopefully madden 09 will do the same because as much as i love madden 2k football games is creeping up behind them
