MLB 08: The Show roster update 3/24

This week’s roster update for MLB 08: The Show is out and it contains 37 changes. They’ve highlighted the specific ones below.

RP Ryan Z Braun moved from Royals Relief to Royals Minors.
SP John Lackey moved from Angels Starting to Angels Minors.
RP Anthony Reyes moved from Cardinals Starting to Cardinals Relief.
3B Nomar Garciaparra moved from Dodgers Position to Minors.
1B Olmedo Saenz moved from Mets Position to Mets Minors.
CF Brady Clark moved from Free Agent to No Team.
RP Kyle Davies moved from Royals Minors to Royals Relief.
SP Kyle Lohse moved from Free Agent to Cardinals Starting.

The regular season is about to begin! It is very much a relief to know that a new very detailed roster update is coming on a week-to-week basis instead of wondering when the next will arrive and if it’ll even be any good to begin with. One benefit of this is that players not in the MLBPA will be added into the game immediately after they’re eligible. So next week’s update should be very significant as it will contain new players and finalized regular season rosters.

I’m currently without my PS3 (had to ship it back for replacement). My question is, if you create a player outside of RTTS, will the roster update overwrite the created player?

Also, I think the developers of MLB the Show should allow created players to be imported into future games along with their stats…just a thought.

Why would Brady Clark be moved to No Team? He’s currently with the Mets organization, and he stands a very good chance of making the opening day roster. Odd.

    Two questions Pasta:
    1) Will there be a roster update for mlb 2k8 on opening day?
    2) Will 2k be putting real identities of those players making mlb debuts into their roster updates?

1- They’ve stated they hoped to have one. I have to say I’m skeptical though and would be somewhat suprised to see an update right around opening day.

2- Yeah they should be, but they have to have played in an MLB game to be eligible. Depending on timing it may not work out. If they had an update for opening day that went through testing then they wouldn’t have those players in for it.

I gotta say who cares about roster updates when you can’t use them unless you are not yet playing a franchise etc? I see roster updates as pointless unless you play online and that’s pathetic with all the online issues.

^ I play a lot of exhibition sim baseball and continually mess with sliders. When I play franchise though, I would like to have the 25 man rosters be correct from the start.

Can you not load the new roster updates after you start a season? That would be pretty pointless to keep getting updates throughout the season if you can’t continually update them in your season….

Not everyone has the game right now. If I buy the game a month from now, shouldn’t I have access to up-to-date rosters? Also, as others have mentioned, people DO play exhibition games. And I know online is lacking but updates are important for that aspect of the game as well.

    A Question for Pasta Padre:

Do these roster updates overwrite created players? I guess I’m piggy backing off of the first comment.

When you download the roster update, it’s an entirely new roster file. So if you had your own roster file with a bunch of created players, you’d have to create them anew if you utilized the update. Now, you could have two rosters: one with the created players, and then save the update separately (though that would defeat the purpose of having the roster update). There’s no way to import a created character into the new roster update, if that’s what you’re asking.

Yup, thats what I was asking. So I guess I’ll download the opening day rosters (when I get the game), and go from there. Thanks!

    No problem.

That’s one feature I would love to see implemented in sports games: the ability to import a created character into an existing roster file. When you create a character, you could have the option to save the character into an existing roster file or to save the character into a created character pool. At any time, during Franchise mode even, you could select an option to import a created player.

Taking it a step further, ANY player ought to be able to be imported into ANY roster file. Say for instance a new roster update is released that includes some rookie pitcher that was previously not present in the game: you could load the updated rosters, choose to export that character, and then import him into your Franchise.

It all seems like a pretty easy feature to implement and is very practical. It would also make sense for those who go deep into the Franchise modes and feel left out that they can’t apply roster updates in the midst of a franchise, since it would be a much simpler technical undertaking to be able to import/export single players.

    No problem.

Going even further, the first comment had a good point with importing created year to year. I know that it’s highly unlikely and too much to ask for, but I used to get annoyed with having to start as a rookie every year when I used to play MVP Baseball.

Hey Pasta, this is a question for both The Show and 360. In the past, when they updated players not in the MLBPA, have they just changed the names, or have they changed the faces, information and attributes? I haven’t downloaded any roster updates in the past, and I was just wondering.

The updates in The Show ‘07 featured entirely new players in the updates. For example, if John Q. Player was added to the game, you’d have a guy that accurately reflects John Q. Player’s physical attributes and information. Most of the newly added players would come with a sound clip that said their names, IIRC, but not a portrait of them. It’d be a generic looking created-player model for the portrait.

Oh, and C-Squared, I hardly played 2k7 last season, so I can’t remember what the updates were like, or even if i updated at all! I’m fairly certain however that it would be inline with what The Show does as far as new players.

Can we choose our unis game to game or does the game choose them for us? I can’t stand it when they pick our uniform for each game.

Exhibition - Yes, you choose your own
Franchise - No, you do not

And the Opening Day roster update for The Show probably won’t be the one people are waiting for. They usually release on Monday mornings, and on the morning of March 31, a lot of guys still wouldn’t have played their first major-league game (Fukudome, others).

April 7 would be the next update after that; and would probably have all the good stuff.

  23. Brandon on March 26th, 2008 4:08 pm Quote

Why do people keep asking if ya can update the rosters into your franchise midseason? That’s not gonna happen. Think about if for a minute. Any transactions made by you or the computer during your franchise would be null & void. Makes no sense to keep asking about it.

ok, i love playing franchises on MLB 08 the show. The only problem is, it does not let me update the new rosters every time they are available. I started a franchise 2 months ago and im still stuck with all of the old players from the padres.(im playing as the padres) All im asking is if you know how to update rosters to the Franchise or Season modes. Thank you
