Matt Ryan announced as PS3 NCAA Football 09 cover athlete

April 23, 2008 by pastapadre

Soon to be top 10 NFL draft pick and former Boston College QB Matt Ryan has been selected for the PS3 cover of NCAA Football 09. He joins Darren McFadden (360) and Sparty (Wii) as representing the cover of the console specific versions of the game. The PS2 and PSP covers are still to be announced in the future.

Former college football standout Matt Ryan will join former Arkansas All-American Darren McFadden as a spokesman and cover athlete for NCAA Football 09. Ryan will be featured on the PLAYSTATION®3 cover and as a four-year player, he finished his career at Boston College as the school’s career leader in pass completions and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2007. In his senior season, he helped lead the Eagles to an 11-3 record and a victory over Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl. Ryan was awarded the 2008 Manning Award, which is given each year to the nation’s top senior quarterback.

Ryan seemed like the most likely choice in the breakdown of potential PS3 cover athletes so this doesn’t come as a big surprise and does make a lot of sense.

Other news to come out of the press release is the online dynasty is exclusive to NCAA Football this year and will allow for up to 12 user controlled teams for up to 60 seasons.

Online dynasty is exclusive??? Exclusive to what? Who else makes an NCAA game? Does that mean exclusive to EA Sports in general, so that Madden, NHL, and NBA won’t have online franchises or dynasties?

Is it more likely that this is just more “fantastic” marketing on EA’s part like saying that Madden features all the NFL players and teams, since no one else can?

  5. Eric on April 23rd, 2008 11:36 am Quote

Answered my own question….. From the Exec. Producer of NCAA.

““From enhanced gameplay and presentation to our online Dynasty Mode offering - the only franchise mode online for EA SPORTS,”

No online franchise in Madden, NHL, or NBA. :-(

EA continues to suck huge male member and be leap years behind other companies in regards to online features.

wow, i would’ve wished that dennis dixon would have been the cover athlete…but w/e…

just sux that i own a ps3 and ill be seeing mr. ryan on the cover for a year.

nevertheless, i’m assuming that they’ll start to unveil the new passing features tomorrow. it was well known that matt ryan did not have an “elite corp” of receivers, yet still managed to rack up the tds and yards. for this, i am excited that EA has dipped back to the offensive side of the ball (instead of the super-linebacker, one-hand interceptions that were frequent in 08).

I’m also interested in hearing what new equipment (facemasks, etc etc) they brought into 09. hopefully EA worked on that….

AND…BIG UPS TO FINALLY PUTTING IN THE D-1AA teams…or am i confused here?

    MJ…it states:

All 120 Football Bowl Subdivision schools are represented in the game.

what is the football bowl SUBDIVISION? that is d-1 or d-1aa…if D-1 is indeed subdivision, then who represents the football bowl division? maybe i just have it mixed up. :(

    Pasta,
also (I’m sure you would have mentioned it anyway) but could you please make sure to look and see if there is a Create-a-Team mode in the game this year. If so could you maybe delve into it a little bit and find out if it’s to the level of detail as the CAT on NCAA for the old-gen systems?

people saw this in the press release today and are hoping it means CAT is in:

There is no CAT (unless it hasn’t been stumbled upon yet but would think it would stand out). Should be able to give more details late Thursday night.

I agree that it looks like Booty but there’s one issue with that. If the guy on the cover has that exact body positioning, like it was for Ryan and his silhouette, then I don’t think it could be a right handed quarterback. Can anyone think of a single cover that EA has put out that showed the back of the player and not the front? I sure can’t but I’m no expert on the covers. Not that it couldn’t be Booty, it just doesn’t seem like something EA would do with a cover.

So, who is a left handed quarterback that could be on the cover?

  40. markus greenidge on April 24th, 2008 6:14 am Quote

    yes,

i too saw that it was a left-handed qb, so i cant see what the heck everyone keeps talking about it being booty.

dang… well that sure seems like a bad choice of wording by EA then..

trying to stay positive though (at least until tonight ;) )… maybe they just haven’t implemented it into the build yet? ……….. maybe?

sorry looks like they don’t have the new ones in. Uniform options were maroon top, white top, all maroon. Not the new ones though.

  44. Darkheath on April 24th, 2008 11:01 am Quote

Not that I really care that much about the uniforms, but it looks like that if they just give you options for jersey and pants separately that would cure most of the problem. At least for those Gophers unis. Instead of having to put 6 uni pairings in, they could give you the 3 options for jerseys and 3 options for pants and you could mix and match them anyway you wanted. That seems like an easy enough solution.
